Local Disk Space Error

Mar 30, 2007

I Have been getting Low disk space memory error's for the last week or so. I have cleaned out my temporary internet files, history, cookies, and deleted a bunch of music files for some space on my drive after getting these messages. Luckily i saved them on a online sharing drive so i didnt lose them all but I am basically wondering why my computer is using up sooo much hard drive space in such a short period of time. Just today i shut the computer off and let it sit for hours hoping that the problem would go away and when i started it back up right away i got a low disk space error. Now After deleting music it said i had over 600 MB of space on the hard drive and the problem was fixed. Not even 20 seconds later i get the error again and it said i only had 180 MB of space. Why would it be doing this ? Do I have a virus ? I ran AVG and it came clean, found no virus or anything.

Local Disk C Is Dramatically Losing Space

Jun 14, 2006

I have a HDD that I partitioned into C:, and D:. I've noticed recently that C:'s capacity is dramatically going down. It's original capacity is 15GB, and now it's become 930MB. That was not all of a sudden of course, but it's just too much, especially that I do not install new programs in it.I used to open 'Properties > Disk Cleanup', where I would clear all System Restore points except the most recent one. Now Disk Cleanup loading process hangs, and I can't get into its menus. Is there other ways to manage System Restore other than 'Control Panel > System > System Restore'?

Toshiba Satellite A35-S159 - Local Disk Error

Mar 22, 2007

I have Windows XP Home Edition on a Toshiba Satellite A35-S159. When I open My Computer, there is a category named Other and under it there is a hard disk icon I think with a red circle over it. In the red circle is a white question mark. I have tried to use disk manager to delete it but it does not show up there. I have also tried using partition magic t delete it but it doesn't see it until I create a AF format partition. Then when I restart, it claims to be it but I still can not delete it in partition magic, on rebot, it says it is not visible and even when partition magic sees it, disk manager does not. Has anyone encountered this and know how to get rid of it. I have also tried ad-aware and hijack this but neither found it. Please help, this thing is driving me nuts!

Hard Disk Error - No Disk Space

Aug 15, 2008

Last week i installed windows XP Pro on my desktop. It has a 250GB hard drive which has 1 partition (C drive only), NTFS offcourse. I did not format it while installing windows as it has lots of stuff in it. There's over 50GB free and ive been removing a lot of stuff from the hard drive to make up some space but in windows i get an error message that i don't have enough disk space, the disk cleanup utility runs cant free up space and i can not install or copy anything in the hard drive. I've noticed that when i deleted some file holding (or not) the shift key the free size goes lower although the files are being deleted from the hard disk.

Low Disk Space Error?

May 25, 2010

I've read a lot of threads about low disk space and learned many things. It seems that 5 year old computers get into this situation. I see our C drive is at 74.50 GB with 1.28 GB free. We have FIXNTLDR (D) which uses 2MB and My Book (G) with a capacity of 298 GB and 108 GB free. We have 4 users, one at 2.39 GB, another at 265 MB, another at 266 MB and another at 4 GB. The "Shared Folder" is at 10.6 GB, I don't know if that means it uses that space separately or is a total of our user use somehow. (What does that mean?)
If our system did crash we it would be a loss to lose our '09-10 turbotax info, microsoft money info, more music, and more pictures. I'm wondering how to problem solve this a step at a time. I guess I should make sure the backup drive has a back up of the above information (?). If we get a new computer (which isn't likely right now), will a new OS and software be able to open those items? Is it reasonable to purchase a rebuilt tower that has more disk space? I've thought of using the Tree... software to see where to free up space but I doubt I have space to install even that.

Disk Space Error Comes Every Time

Mar 31, 2007

I have a 100GB hard drive and windows XP keeps recognizing it as being full. When I view drive C it says that it has all of its 88GB filled. The interesting thing is that when I do a CTRL A of all of its contents, the size is only 20GB. My computer is free of movies and music with the exception of a few gigs of photos and small programs. System speed is fine and I do not believe that my system has any sort of malicious files on it.

Hard Disk Space Go / Disk Space Seems To Vanish

Mar 31, 2007

I don't get it. the more i go on, the more and more disk space seems to vanish into thin air. xp usually takes a couple of gigs up on the hard disk, right? maybe 5 gigs at the very most. i've got 8 gigs taken up by videos in one folder. the programs i've got installed are negligable. the program files folder is 500mb. and yet my disk only has 20 gigs spare on a 40 gig hard disk. i've looked in every folder on the hard disk and i simply can't find any folders with anything of any great size in it. i've defragged the hard drive.

Low Disk Space / Clears Your Disk Space Up

Nov 26, 2007

Recently ive been getting the yellow triangle icon with an ''!'' in it, saying that I have very low disk space. Ive noticed my computer has also been running slower than usual. Maybe half a year ago I came here with the same problem, and someone (forget the name, sorry) posted a link to a program somebody made that clears your disk space up for you. It deleted old unused files, and it worked great. You sort of just clicked on the link on the site, a box came up, and you checked off what you needed to be cleared, and then the program fixed it for you.

Can't Open Local Disk C

I am using Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2. About a week ago, I had a Trojan-PSW.OnLine Games virus.I think I got rid of the Trojan-PSW.OnLine Games virus. But, I am having the same problem as "thebest100" and "srinivassalle" here:
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt...ocal-disk.html I tried:1. Enter command prompt on WIN XP. HOW?Click Start > Run > CMD 2. Navigate to drive C: HOW?
type cd 3. Type Dir /a To show all files in root drive. Then identify the autorun.inf file (you may find other autorun-named files there. You this same method to get them out)4. Type attrib autorun.inf This will help you get the file attributes on the autorun.inf. Depending on the outcome which can be ash, i.e. Archived, System file, Hidden), do the following:5. Type attrib -a -s -h autorun.inf (assuming above result). This will make the file a normal file
6. Type del autorun.

Local Disk Needs To Be Formatted

Jul 24, 2009

bought a new portable HDD -Western Digital Passport 320GB, and I formatted it to NTFS on my laptop on XP. My main gaming PC has Windows 7 x64 on it and when I got home from my holiday I transferred my files to it and put BitLocker on it.Once I had done this I plugged it back into my laptop with XP on it, and it picks it up as Local Disk (F: ) and says it needs to be formatted. Why would this be? I thought okay, so I took off BitLocker off of it on Windows 7, and plugged it back in, and it was still saying it. What is the problem here? I right clicked it and it said the FileSystem is RAW, which didn't make sense as I formatted it to NTFS on the same computer.
