I have Windows XP Home Edition on a Toshiba Satellite A35-S159. When I open My Computer, there is a category named Other and under it there is a hard disk icon I think with a red circle over it. In the red circle is a white question mark. I have tried to use disk manager to delete it but it does not show up there. I have also tried using partition magic t delete it but it doesn't see it until I create a AF format partition. Then when I restart, it claims to be it but I still can not delete it in partition magic, on rebot, it says it is not visible and even when partition magic sees it, disk manager does not. Has anyone encountered this and know how to get rid of it. I have also tried ad-aware and hijack this but neither found it. Please help, this thing is driving me nuts!
I was trying to install Vista in my laptop and it did not work for no reason, now the DVD-Ram driver dooes not work and I can not use my cd/dvd unit at all, does read nothing. I got a external unit and it does not recognized either. Of course I can not run winxp again, because the cd unit does nor work. Any suggestion is a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6084.
The Toshiba Power Saver is set for the screen and HDD to shut off after 30 minutes of no activity. The screen saver is set to go after 10 minutes but after 30 minutes the screen saver stops and the normal screen comes up. I tried setting to a different power setting by right clicking the desktop and going to properties and setting it to "Portable/Laptop" but it did the same thing. Is there a way to fix this? My OS is XP Media Center and my Toshiba Satellite is a A100/A105 series.
Toshiba satellite notebook that has something wrong with the driver. When i go to burn a dvd now or even a cd it tells me to attach an external drive, or the area where you choose which location to burn to is greyed out. I can't seem to look up the model number on the Toshiba website, the number on my receipt is A70wb200e, while the number i brought up using the system itself is mfwt020acp08.
The computer has no driver cd with it a had to look for drivers on Toshiba support pages. I found the drivers that are supposed to work but still the sound is not working (seems like everything else does).I've tried both kinds of drivers that are available one was Realtek AC 97 something and the other one Sound MAX something none of them works anyway.
Laptop came with Vista, but I decided to put Windows XP on it instead, everything went alright, until the ATi Display drivers came in, since the Toshiba website doesn't have any XP drivers for this laptop, I've tried many many different driver packages and none of them have worked, the chipset is ATi Radeon Xpress 200M, even the drivers on the ATi website for that chipset for XP wouldn't work. What could be going on and can it be fixed?
When I turn on the machine, the screen stay blank, no bios display, no windows boot logo, but the power light and hdd light flash away, AND once its up to the Welcome screen, the display kicks in and no further problems.She tells me it once did show a bios and Windows boot screen, and I can't seem to work out whats going on to blank the screen during this time. I can't even F2/F12 to a visible bios setup to see if its a setting, but I know its going in, because it stay blank forever
I am trying to upgrade my laptop to Windows 2000. Once the OS was loaded I have two PCI slots not not recognized. I tried to put a Netgear Card into the slot and it did not work so I went to Device Manager. It gave me a PCI ?. I dont know where to get a driver for the PCI slots because I dont know there names. What do I do?
Does anyone know where I can find the display driver for this laptop? I've looked everywhere but all the links I follow seem to lead to a driver detective download. Or is there a free driver scanner that could do the job?
Toshiba Satellite A135-S4407 and hate the Visat OS. Has anyone here removed the Vista and installed XP SP2/3?I have legal OS disks for both. I am worried about the drivers for hardware devices. I am going to perform a total backup on a external HD before anything else.
I have a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5000 with Vista home on it and it works OK, but I bought a larger HDD and I thought that I would put Windows XP PRO on it, I went from a Hitachi 160GB 2.5" SATA drive to a 250GB drive, same Manufacturer, the only difference in the drives is the original was a SATA 1.50 and the new drive is a 3.0, BIOS see's the drive and the XP disk does al the usual stuff, then it asks if you want to Install windows on it, so I click OK and then it says the windows cannot detect any HDD and aborts the installation, I know that the 2 SATA's are compatible and the only draw back is that the 3.0 may operate in the 1.5 mode in the worse case scenario, but windows doesn't see the drive at all.
i have two local disks: local disk ( c ) and local disk ( D )... i can't reformatt my compputer because local disk ( C ) don't have enough space, how do i ease local disk ( D )??? i have 7.82mb on local disk ( C ) and 74.5gm on local disk ( D ).
I Have been getting Low disk space memory error's for the last week or so. I have cleaned out my temporary internet files, history, cookies, and deleted a bunch of music files for some space on my drive after getting these messages. Luckily i saved them on a online sharing drive so i didnt lose them all but I am basically wondering why my computer is using up sooo much hard drive space in such a short period of time. Just today i shut the computer off and let it sit for hours hoping that the problem would go away and when i started it back up right away i got a low disk space error. Now After deleting music it said i had over 600 MB of space on the hard drive and the problem was fixed. Not even 20 seconds later i get the error again and it said i only had 180 MB of space. Why would it be doing this ? Do I have a virus ? I ran AVG and it came clean, found no virus or anything.
I need to reinstall Windows XP, but I don't have the disk. I can't even remember if I got one. I have the Toshiba recovery disk. Do Toshiba include the normal Windows cd? I've torn the house apart looking for it. I found all the other stuff that came with my laptop, but not that.Will the recovery disk do the same thing? If not, is it possible to use an XP installer cd from another computer?
My computer has just crashed, and i just found out that i have lost the Toshiba Recovery CD. Apparently, according to my dad's computer friend, there are 'some sites' that provide downloads of a "boot file" that is able to recover the Windows Operating system. i honestly think that is just bogus
I want to reinstall Windows XP on our Toshiba laptop but I don't want to reinstall from the Toshiba disks due to the bloatware that the disks installs (like the disk utility, antivirus, etc software). I'd like to install the OS from a Microsoft Windows XP CD but wondered if the Microsoft disk would even install onto the Toshiba and if so, would the laptop function properly? Thanks.
so what i did was scan for and attempt of bad sectors, when it was done i restarted the computer, then a blue screen pop up reading and checking for errors the last time i check it was on 33% so i was just sitting watching tv and all of the sudden my power for the whole house went out for about couple of min then when i turn on the computer, i tells me if i want to reboot in safe mode or normal, so i pick normal(tried safe mode also same thing happened) when it start loading a blue screen pop up saying A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer if this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen apperas again follow these steps Disable or uninstall ant anti-virus, disck defragmentation or back up utilities. Check your hard drive fongiuration, and check for any updated drives. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.
I have folders in this disk and I don't know if some should be deleted or moved, I could use some help before I do something wrong. These folders are on called c and it is empty, one with Documents & Settings with a folder with my name and other users I put on the computer. A folder called hegames which is empty. A folder called My Downloads 9.99 MB Real Player 10-5 Gold , A Windows folder 1.60 GB with addins, apppatch, assembly, config files and said should not open could cause problems, which I won't open. A Dell folder 1.99 MB contracts doc.drivers high speed int. A folder I386 which has a lot in it , said don't open. And the last a folder that said My Music which is empty. A folder called tmp with 1.44 MB Files;Appudater.exe.CI.log sownload manager.dll and the last System INFO configuration settings 1KB which I won't open. Can I delete some of these? Safely?
i've tried to install drivers for the computer and noticed an error "could not access C:Windows" so i checked and the local disc is actually labeled H!I've changed C (which is a removeable drive) to X so C is avaliable, but i am unable to rename the Local Disc to C, i think because it's in use, how can i get round this? I cannot install a driver as it by default goes to C:.

I can format it but it is pointless because it has 0 free used space. I thought if I did that maybe I would be able to erase it, but that didn't work either. It doesn't show up in Disk Manager either. I have tried using Partition Magic to delete it, but on reboot it gives me an error 626. I am using Windows XP Home Edition.
When i double click on any local disk (Local Disk(C) ,(DVD-RW Drive (D) ,(CD-RW Drive (E) or any Removable Disk it will not open directly, it opens a search window. I have to open the the drop down box and select open. I know this was caused by a virus that no longer exist on my PC.
How do i edit the registry so that my drives open by double clicking?

bought a new portable HDD -Western Digital Passport 320GB, and I formatted it to NTFS on my laptop on XP. My main gaming PC has Windows 7 x64 on it and when I got home from my holiday I transferred my files to it and put BitLocker on it.Once I had done this I plugged it back into my laptop with XP on it, and it picks it up as Local Disk (F: ) and says it needs to be formatted. Why would this be? I thought okay, so I took off BitLocker off of it on Windows 7, and plugged it back in, and it was still saying it. What is the problem here? I right clicked it and it said the FileSystem is RAW, which didn't make sense as I formatted it to NTFS on the same computer.
