i dont know the actual technical term for this function. its when u type something in the search box, a box will show your previous search terms. its very annoying & i would like to get rid of this EXTRA function. i tried to look into the 'options', but couldnt find any selection that can disable this function.

View 5 Replies View RelatedA DV device is treated like any other removable storage in XP and you get an autoplay prompt when you plug in the camcorder. When I bought my DV camcorder I installed some software that came with it. The software sucks, but before I came to that realization, I had already made it the default for DV autoplay.The problem is that once you select an app to autoplay, there is NO WAY to change it unlike with other removables (where you can right click on it and change it in it's properties). Trust me, I did a LOT of research online and could not find any way to do it.Finally, after a careful search through the registry, I figured out how to disable DV autoplay entirely.ALL the autoplay handlers are stored in this registry folder: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAutoplayHandlersHandlersIfound the app that was being autoplayed when I plugged in my DV camera and deleted it's entry. Now NOTHING autoplays when I plug in my camcorder which is just the way I prefer it. I'm sure there's a more elegant solution that allows you to reset the autoplay so that you can select another app, but this solves the problem for me.

have even used TweakUI and still the auto-login feature runs every time I reboot. I looked under the Group Policy editor, following my Administrator's Pocket Consultant for clues, and there is no effect.
When Running windows and it crashes you will get a blue screen and it will automatically restart, ofter it will restart too fast for you to see the error message. You could check the error log in this case but that is too easy. We are going to disable auto restart on system failure.
1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System (Windows+Pause works, too)
2. Go to Advanced
3. Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings...
4. Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"
Every time I put a DVD into one of my drives, Media Center automatically launches. Drives me insane. This version came pre-installed and I NEVER use it except with my XBOX 360.
1. Both drives are set to ignore all disc types in the AutoPlay properties.
2. There is no setting (I can see) within Media Center to disable this autolaunch.
I have some software called "find it." The software indexes every word one types in microsoft word or excell. I have used it for many years in Windows 98 without problems, both in my home and at work. Recently my office updated the OS system from 98 to Windows XP2 Professional edition. The "Find it" program does not work with the Windows XP2. I have 2 laptops with Windows XP Home edition. "Find It" works fine in those laptops. TheWindowsXP search program is not as good as "Find It." Can anyone suggest how I might be able to get "Find It" to work with XP2 Professional Edition?
View 3 Replies View Relatedfirst of all, under the settings for window's firewall, i am not able to choose whether or not i want to enable it or disable it. it is set as disabled and both the enable/disable buttons are greyed out and i cannot click it. second, my auto update keeps turning itself off. after setting it back on, it will turn off the next time i boot my computer. third, i'm having some networking problems. i can connect onto the other computers of my network, however the other computers cannot connect to me. are all these problems related in anyway?

To turn this feature back on:

OS : windows XP Pro sp3Problem : We have a machine that has lost Scanner and Camera wizard from autoplay a few days ago after we moved this PC from a local Workgroup to a Domain. After moving it to the domain with the new user, we copied the Windows profile from the old local user to to the new domain user. We currently do not have any group policies configured to disable auto play. When I log in with the username into the old local account the Wizard pops up fine. It is something related to the user/profile change. When we plug the camera into the computer autoplay works and recognises that the camera has pictures but there are no options to transfer pictures in the pop up box. i have tried a a few reg edits , we do not have Real Player, No luck with Windows autoplay repair wizard either.

There is a Customize button but it only brings up a pop-up page that says Ops wrong page. Try again Later. how I can Get the MSN Search Companion back.
What are the rules for a case sensitive search when searching for all files and folders in XP. I have set the option, and have tried searching in both upper and lower case options, and still get the same results.

I had a nasty virus attack and had to repair XP Pro. All else is repaired as far as I can tell, but this version of Search is not nearly as handy.

Problem is, if I load a CD or DVD into the Drive they dont auto run they just spin up, and to launch I have to do it through explorer, Similarly with my Digital Camera, when I plug it in its supose to ask me what i want to do with the files but the same happens the Nikon program does not auto run, have tried the solutions mentioned here bon this board but still no go.

I search multiple network drives serveral times a day for files and do not need to search in the *.zip files. By searching the *.zip files the time is greatly increased. When I had Windows 2000 the search would take about 1 minute (did not search *.zip files) and now in Windows XP the search takes over 12 and half minutes (1079 *.zip files)
I did a test by making all the *.zip hidden and did the search again - averaged about 59 seconds. Unforunately, I have to leave the *.zip files as not hidden.
Any ideas?
I'm battling spyware removal at the moment (aurora) and somehow my win xp sp2 search function no longer works. i get an error "A File That Is Required to Run Search Companion Cannot Be Found" you may need to run setup I went to the microsoft website and downloaded the hotfix, however it doesn't work with sp2! anybody know how to fix this? I checked and i do have the srchasst folder in windows.

when i was downloading a free screen saver i also got a "free" toolbar called Power Search and I keep getting redirected to Sir Search page, which may or may not allow me to surf where I want to go.
i used spyware and I have run AdAware (twice) and Spybot Search and Destroy and even Spyware Blaster. I have gone in to all the programs and tweaked the settings as much as I can on the free versions but nothing has removed them so far.
I have hidden the Power Search toolbar from view but it is still there. And it isn't listed in Add/Remove programs.
Is there a website somewhere that gives removal directions for this?
every time I entered a file name or search name in the box, the result came up instantly: "Searched, nothing found."
Actually, there was no time to conduct a search, the result showed up within a half second.
Meanwhile, I've tested by entering names of files that appear multiple times and I still get the same result instantly, "nothing found."
What can I do to correct or repair?
