one of my svchost instances just keeps on growing and growing. after 2 days of uptime it is about 70mb. i have used process explorer to determine that it is the RPC service that has started the instance of svchost from the Network service account. is it normal that this process keeps growing like this, usually when people have a problem with svchost it is because i hogs the cpu but in my case it is hogging the pagefile. i dont experience any XP slowdowns so i dont know if this actually is a problem. but i want to solve this before it becomes a problem. one time the svchost process was 100mb and kept growing
I'm still having a Generic Host Process (or something) error on startup. It then says the error is something to do with svchost.exe in: I looked there and deleted the directory as there was nothing in the folder.
I was recently informed that if a svchost.exe process is using more memory than explorer.exe, it's a dud. Is this true? Also, I have six svchost.exe processes running at once, is this normal ?
Whenever i start up my computer an error message window pops up saying:
svchost.exe-application error the instruction at "0x7c918fea" referenced memory at "0x00000010." The memory could not be "written." Click OK to terminate the program, Click Cancel to debug the program
Task Manager "Processes" tab shows "svchost.exe" appearing 7 times. Most memory usage is in the 3-6,000K range but one is 25,000K. My downloads have been a bit slower lately, but I can't say I've had any dramatically obvious problems. Your "Search" feature turned up 14 pages of threads dealing with this subject. This is too daunting a research project for me. I"m using Windows XP Pro SP2. Do 7 listings of svchost.exe seem excessive?
I am currently testing some third-party software on Win XP Pro and my page file has grown to 1.75 Gig and still growing. Is there a utility that can tell me what is in the pagefile and how much space it is taking up.
It all started when I noticed that my bootup time was about 30 seconds slower than it should be. For 30 seconds after the BIOS post screen, my monitor is black and the computer sits there HD LED going full bore. Then it goes to the normal WINXP bootup screens, blah blah blah, then I'm in windows. I ran a safe mode startup and I noticed that the bootup would hang for 30 seconds on windows/system32/config/system. What the heck is that file? I'm certain this can't be normal behavior. What's the problem? The size of my system32/config folder is now 70.3 MB.
My computer is growing tired. Below this message are some stats about my setup that might be useful. The computer is 5 years old now. I know, ancient by today's standards, but it's what we have right now. Over time, between installed software, uninstalled software, etc., it seems to have gotten slower. I've heard that every once in a while, it's not a bad idea to initialize the hard disk and reinstall the software.
I can not get the usual sound effects ("empty recycle bin", "Start Windows", "Exit Windows" etc.In the Control Panel, "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties", under the "Sound"tab, the Sound Scheme shown is "Windows Default".If I go to the "Program Event", the above (and other) events have sounds associated with them, and give the proper sound."wav", "mid" and "MP3" files play OK using Windows Media Player. Clips from News Networks (which include audio and video) play OK
i've been running dvd2svcd to convert my dvd's and since i stopped (yesterday), the system cache in the task manager keeps sucking up all my ram.i restarted-nothing i ran a ram optimizer-reset to 500mb free, then system cache swallowed it up again my page file is set for 1150mb. before, the system ran at about 300-400 mb free with normal programs running (int explrer, solitaire, movies, music, etc).
I had Windows Explorer open while running my compter today and noticed that C:Program Files and C:Windows folders was growing. They must have started out at about 1GB or so and by the time they had stopped growing the C:Program Files folder was a little over 3GB and the C:Windows folder was a little over 4GB. I don't know if this is normal or not but am including the text from a HiJackThis log. I am running Windows XP Pro. Can someone tell me if there is a problem or if this is normal?
I think I have found way i have been getting a white box that's been floating around my screen. I have ran a panda online virus scan and this is the log that I have came up with. my computer has been running slower then usual
I was messing around with a few themes on my computer. I tryed out windowblinds and tgt soft's style xp. I was really making my computer look nice. Until, I changed my theme too something different. Now my theme is all nice but when I go too Start--->All Programs, my font is twice as big as usual. I know the theme is not making it bigger, because I have tryed other themes! The font and all looks ugly and way too big! How do I change this? Now all of my themes are changing too this same font and font size
Whenever i launch internet explorer it takes longer than usual to load. And when i go to type a web address it just freezes and never loads a new webpage. I don;t know what is going on. This has started to happen on friday. I;ve ran the following and they found some stuff and have deleted it but i still have the same problem. I;ve even tried system restore and it still persist. I noticed that when i try to delete my history i get an error about not being able to open shell32.dll or something and that some about a inetcpl.cpl is having a problem.
I recently got the computer listed into my signature, and I am having problems. I pretty much get an error every five minutes, then when ever I am doing like messenger and browsing at the same time. It gives me the usual blue screen with white text, saying an error, I have found mostly that it is one of three errors that usually happen. I am getting so angry, as I NO JOKE in the last hour, have had 37 errors.
I'm running Windows XP Pro on a 6 month old laptop. Is there a list of "usual suspects" that cause this error? This time it's Filseclab's Messenger and it occurs every time I turn on my laptop and Twister Anti-TrojanVirus starts with varying delays. Twister itself keeps on running without incident.
My brothers Dell Dimension 4600 will not put out any video signal. I've tried two working monitors and nothing. I can hear the harddrive working in a somewhat normal manner just after power on but there is never a hint from the monitor. Anyway, I offered to at least pop off the side cover and take a look for any hint of what may be the problem. Since he just moved to another town, his computer was subjected to the usual transportation handling etc. So what would be the usual things to check. I've never had a Dell or Windows XP Home. (I have Win98SE and Win2kp) Kinda hard to do anything right off when there is no video
System Idle Process is at top of processes tab in windows task manager. I've read in an earlier post this causes cpu spikes. should I just highlight it and click end process? or is there something else I need to do.
My Hard Disk is growing itself , every time i check it , the space just keeps getting lower and lower . This keeps happening only to local disk C where my windows is installed , it seems there's a virus that infected it , I already scanned it but nothing happened , he still kept growing . Around 25 Gb are alredy filled by this "virus" thing if I can call it that way .
When I start my computer svchost one of the many goes crazy pushing CPU up to 100% and it's mem usage to about 90k. At the same time, wuaclt goes up to about 30k, which is also not normal.
when i start up this pc, it becomes very slow. I go to task manager and have a look and i see SVCHOST.EXE as a system process. But is Mem Usage is like 40,000 and it is taking up 99 on the CPU and the CPU usage shoots to 100%. I can stop this process and the start bar will look like the windows classic for a bit then change back to regular xp. i have tried to google it and i see all sorts of things, like spyhunter etc. i have tried all sorts of steps to remove this but to no avail
the operating system that i am using right now is Windows XP. Everytime i turn on the computer these two windows come up: the first window is an Application Error for svchost.exe, and the other is a "emcountered a problem and needs to close" window for Generic Host Process for Win32 Services.
i just booted my pc, went regularly until it was launched and the desktop was loaded. Everything was running slowly, i press ctrl - alt - delete and wait 5 minutes for it to eventually come up, i then went to the processes tab and find that svchost.exe is running at 99% CPU I usually end process on that svchost, but then i cant connect to certain servers, and sometimes my sound drivers disappear also(not 100% sure, but this seems to be connected
Dell Security Center (McAfee) with Firewall, AntiSpam, AntiHack, AntiVirus enabled. When I booted up my computer, it automatically connect to Internet, I received an error "Generic Host Process for Win32 Service." I clicked the detail report: AppName: svchost.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.2180
When I start it, after a few seconds, a task is appearing in the Task Manager, called "svchost.exe", which is using 100% of my PCU. I know this task is part of Windows, but I'm wondering why it uses so much CPU... I performed a search on the web and found 2 tips: 1- Performing a registry scan (with RegCure or equivalent), then a spyware scan and a virus scan; 2- Updating my system on Windows Update. I did the first step with the free versions of RegCure and RegistryFix (registry scan), AdAware and AVG Free. But concerning the 2nd step, when I go on the Windows Update site, the automatic update tool performs an infinite search to find the suitable updates for my system
My HP Pavilian dv8000 laptop running XP home with media center is constantly using 50% of the cpu for svchost.exe as soon as you log boot up and it never stops.* How can I find out what process is running and shut it down?
after running for a while svchost.exe starts using more memory and cpu usage goes up to 100%. i read about this problem in article 324139, it says it only applies to windows 2000 though. Im running windows xp home SP2 and im not sure how to fix the problem.
