I'm a newbie here, and not really good with computers. (Hoping to learn alot from you guys!) I'm trying to figure out what my kids did to my button thingys, the ones that say "stop, refresh, home, search, favorites, " etc...They aren't there anymore. The "back" button is there, with a little arrow thing beside it that you have to push to get to them. How do I get them back across the top again?
View 3 RepliesI have a keyboard with some of those "Extra" buttons on top like those shortcuts "Mail,home, favorites, forward, rewind, play, pause...etc" well you'know the buttons that no one in the world ever uses, now I don't know what happened, but my keyboard got a short-circuit apparently (maybe someone spelled something on it or something) and what happened was, the Up arrow had got shorted with the "My Computer" button, and the left arrow with the "Calculator" shortcut, so each time I press up it opens the My Computer window, and each time I press left it opens Windows Calculator, now you can imagine how annoying that could be when playing games, you press one arrow and poof, you'll be Alt-ctrl-deleting for the next hour, so is there a way to disable those buttons? as in make windows ignore the command once it receives it?...........
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a friends PC, a gateway P4 2.6, winxp home. The mouse and keyboard up and died. He had a kvm switch, the electronic kind when it stopped functioning. I have tried usb, ps2 everything. The keyboard works on bootup, so I can get into bios etc... but when it gets to the windows screen, nothing. No mouse or keyboard. Safe mode is the same thing. Dont want to format and reinstall windows. On that note, I did try a repair, when it asks for admin password it wont accept it. Says invalid admin password.. The password IS windows admin password though. With no mouse even in safemode, and windows not accepting my admin password during repair,
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just finished assembling my new build. It boots and I can get to the BIOS. I even have it booting from the DVD drive so I can load Win XP.However, when I get to the Windows Setup and it asks me if I want to setup windows(press enter), Repair(some other key), quit(F3) my keyboard won't work. I hit "Enter" because I want to install XP and nothing happens. It is not responding to my keyboard strokes.
This is strange because the keyboard works in the BIOS.
My friends keyboard is not working. When she turns the computer on no lights come up on the keyboard. Have tried another keyboard and still the same. Unable to get into the computer to check bios etc as there is a password on the account.

Some website that he used to visit regularly will not load and if they do, the layout and graphics are all messed up. Also, he can't seem to click on any buttons at all. I tried to install Norton but I can't click on the buttons to register his version. Therefore, I cannot run a virus scan to see if that is the problem.

Instead a Blank Dialogue box with with a red circleand white cross appears with yes or no buttons which both log you off back to the dialogur screen.Booted into safemode with command promp and with network support and thistime a single OK button appears again logging you off. Howevever I can get into ordinary safe mode.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a interesting problem. The OS buttons have gone missing. They are still there and you can click on them if you know the location but they are not displayed. For example if you bring up display properties all the tabs at the top, and all buttons on the screen are not drawn, nor are the text labels. And it is not only display properties, anything that uses the same draw tecniques no longer draw. And even stranger, it is this way even in safe mode.

Some problems I have found is that:The "Log Off" button in the start menu is missing. I cannot switch the control panel from the "New View" to the "Classic View". Completely vanished without a trace. Instead, I just have a silver title bar across the top, with the Minimise, close and maximise buttons, and the name of the program. Anything underneath, (Such as an address bar, view, file etc buttons and navigational buttons) have gone.I still have them in Internet explorer, before anyone asks.. View 1 Replies View RelatedMy wallpaper has disappeared even though it appears under display properities-themes. Under the desktop tab my wallpaper is set correctly. When I try to change the theme from modified theme to windows classic the change is not accepted. My screensaver was the picture slideshow and is now windows xp moves across the screen as the screensaver. When I try to change it back the change is not accepted.
This all started because I am trying to back up my computer to an external hard drive and keep getting error message "windows delay write failed". I tried updating the hard disk driver but there wasn't any update. While searching for fixes for that problem, I came across Panda Software online virus checker. I used it and it deleted a few viruses. They were all old, some may have only been unopened email attachments and they were all from 2001 and 2002. Two days later, I was using logmein - remote access and while rebooting (not the first reboot) I got the blue screen. Here's the error message.

So I looked up vsdatant.sys which is located in system32 directory, and I changed the name of the driver to vsdatant.old but then my zonealarm stopped working so I changed it back.
How do I get my display working properly? Any ideas on the "write failed" error message?
I have burned some photos onto a CD -R and have gone back into the cd drive but they are missing!! where have they gone. The photos were definitely burned on. I thought that once on a cd nothing could be lost.

Normally "do not show hidden files"is only selected. When I clicked on " show hidden files it would work and show the hidden files, until a couple days ago. Now both buttons are still selected but I can not get it to show the hidden files. When I click a button that button will be the only one selected the other one goes out. Then I click apply and ok then open view back up both buttons are still both selected.
