View 3 RepliesA box came up with C:Windows askmgr.exe in the title bar and the text said, "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them" I clicked OK and a second box came up. It had DESKTOP in the title bar and the text said "Could not load or run c: . Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry." I clicked OK and things seemed to work.
I use the free version of Grisoft's AVG so I ran a scan and it found 3 items, one of which was taskmgr.exe infected with Trojan horse SHeur.NOZ. It said it fixed them so I rebooted. The other 2 were svchost.exe and svchost_tmp.exe also infected by SHeur.QCZ
Every time my computer starts I get the message: windows cannot find C:/program files/ca/etrust pestpatrol/core/ppclean.exe The problem is that I've uninstalled the program it refers to and iany known leftovers, but still the message appears.Same message also with lavasoftad-aware6ad-aware.exe

Then I found some software online that is supposed to help clean your windows registry. So here's what I installed just this morning: RegCure and Pareto Logic Privacy Controls. I ran scans in both and ran the auto fixes for both. but now i am geting start up error

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 2000 Pro, and recently I began using Asmw eraser pro. Shortly after I began to use Asmw, I began to get errors during startup. The two error messages I receive are: "MotiveSB.exe is generating errors and will be shut down.", and "ycommon.exe is generating errors and will be shut down. You will have to restart your computer." I have run a few virus programs without detecting any viruses. I don't know if these errors are caused by the history cleaner, or what, but they now occur every time I start up.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAt the start up, I'm getting some error messages..1. mimboot.exe Entry point not found something to do with a CoreDll.dll 2.hpqthb08.exe - Failed to initialize properly- HP image zone?3. A couple of symantec errors (don't use norton anymore but can't delete it either)4. And after we get rid of the error messages, the HP update Agent runs the whole time but can't ever complete the update.I usually have to get out of that by alt+ctrl+del. When we try to shut down the computer, it just doesn't do it. I ran regcleaner and it fixed a bunch of stuff, but still wouldn't shut down or restart properly. Then I disabled NVidia driver helper, seemed to help a little, but now it gets stuck on the blue "logging off" screen and we still have to turn it off and restart manually.
View 11 Replies View RelatedThe screen going black and the computer beeping consistently untill turned off. The screen showing evenly spaced vertical white lines on a black screen. Showing a bluescreen (I can't remember the error messege but will make a note if it happens again). Not booting up correctly, with a messege displayed about inserting system disk or removing disk from the floppy drive though nothing is inserted. Sometimes the computer will switch on fine and will not act up at all, but much more often now I will get at least one of these errors each time I try to use the computer, if not several in succession.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I start up, either when windows xp is loading, login screen, or right after i enter the password and press enter, a blue screen comes up.BAD_POOL_HEADER with all the text saying like check for viruses, but other stuff sometimes comes up like system files (.sys extensions) in the place of BAD_POOL_HEADER, which is right under the first line in the blue screen.

When I booted my computer up this evening, everything was fine until midway into the startup sequence and I closed Yahoo! Messenger. This system is running Win 2000 sp2 w/ a paltry 196M ram.Would appreciate any suggestions to remedy.
In the first error if I click on OK for the GetLastError=2hDevice=fffffff I get the error in the second error about tttFailed to open GVCpl WinNT driver Please reboot your system. The other message just goes away (Could not start GPCIDrv driver). It seems to be tied to the Gigabyte driver. The other thing that I have noticed is that Wall Watcher doesn't log anything anymore.

View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter Restarting my computer, I've been getting a message that says the following: "Windows cannot find" (Here it shows 3 strange symbols)
1) a capitol E with the back of it rounded and the bottom line slanting downward.
2) a small letter n with a squiggly on top of it.
3) a square.
I must have assigned a windows shortcut that went to "Google Advanced Search.url", for when I type CONTROL-ALT-G, it pops up a window that says, "missing shortcut windows is searching for Google Advanced Search.url. To locate the file yourself click browse."I no longer have a file by this name on the machine.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Western Digital laptop hard drive for my HP Presario X1015US laptop - and got the part where it said : Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed on my computer. I have tried two new drives now and it is simply not getting past this point. I have gone in to the bios to ensure it is booting from Windows Operating System CD and it is still not finding. HP told me I have to check motherboard? Is there anything else I can do or am I going to need to buy a new laptop (the old hard drive is no longer working...started making weird noise).
Every time I try to open a web link from my screen I get an error message that says "Windows cannot find, http// ... make sure you typed name correctly ...". Option is to click on OK, but right after message appears it will open the page and I can open all the other net links normally, but not internal pages until message is gone. I've re-installed Firefox. Only thing I haven't done is re-install windows.
View 13 Replies View RelatedWhen I start the computer, I get a screen freeze and have to press Ctrl,Alt,Del once before any programs will startup. A lot of probs with internet connection and slowness while surfing as well as a lot of pop up ads in my face.
There are system boxes coming up with registry and dll errors and the whole system seems SLOW.
Can someone tell me why, when I open a notepad file, whether from notepad or from Start Documents or what have you, I always get an error message: "Windows cannot find [file locationfilename.txt]. Make sure you type the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search." However, the file does open in notepad behind this error message and I am able to view it, edit it, etc.
I would like this error message not to appear every time (it is really just an annoyance to cancel it every time but after a couple of years I am tired of it) so I tried to find this answer in the archives but to no avail. However, I saw that it was recommended by more than one tech guy (or gal) to save a "hijack this" file in notepad, so I followed the instructions and did that just after my latest error message... The "hijack this" copy of the notepad file follows, and if you see anything else that I should make note of please let me know....
i apereantly deleted or did something with system32 folder. but if it got deleted should i even be able to use the computer? anyway. i worried about it after i cant find/open windows media player or mspaint. so can it be fixed by entering the windows xp disc and putting repair, do i have to reinstall and delete everything or is there any other way of fixing this?
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe family computer is playing up and to the best of my knowledge the computer in question just simply suddenly stopped working as it should. I am unable to get the 'default' welcome screen upon start up and am getting the logon box where you type in a username and passworld. I know how to get rid of this, user accounts>enable welcome screen - but it will not solve the problem. This is just the start of the problems. I get a whole host of errors which popup one after another.
