The cable is working properly, because my laptop can connect to the network through it. I have tried two new drives now and it is simply not getting past this point. I have gone in to the bios to ensure it is booting from Windows Operating System CD and it is still not finding. Every time I try to open a web link from my screen I get an error message that says "Windows cannot find, http// ... make sure you typed name correctly ...". Option is to click on OK, but right after message appears it will open the page and I can open all the other net links normally, but not internal pages until message is gone. I would like this error message not to appear every time (it is really just an annoyance to cancel it every time but after a couple of years I am tired of it) so I tried to find this answer in the archives but to no avail. i apereantly deleted or did something with system32 folder. but if it got deleted should i even be able to use the computer? anyway. i worried about it after i cant find/open windows media player or mspaint. so can it be fixed by entering the windows xp disc and putting repair, do i have to reinstall and delete everything or is there any other way of fixing this?

This started out with the speakers I turned down the volume to nothing while playing a game and then I tried to turn it back up I got no sound from internal speakers. tried all the options in the volume looking for anything muted but nothing. Tried to update the sound card drivers with the same results of no sound out of the internal speakers. when starting my laptop I had a smaller then the normal screen when starting up, same size on my main screen. able to change to a higher resolution to fill the entire screen but if I go any lower then the highest resolution I have a black boarder were the window should be.

I just tried to switch to the guest profile and received a message that it could not find a profile and to be sure I was connected to the network. I tend to run more often on XP than Mac OS X, I tryed looking for some new themes for XP and installed "UXTheme Multi-Patcher 5.0.exe" and copyed across a few new themes wich I liked. they all worked fine till I restarted the system. An error message apears saying that it cant locate the file "UXThemes.dll" so all i see in windows now is my wallpaper with no startup menu, the keyboard and mouse's right and left clik do not respond at all. View 6 Replies View RelatedI decided to "reinstall" Windows XP on my laptop. I stuck the reinstall disk into the computer and let it go. After about 1 hour of "reinstalling", the computer restarted, after that, the window was only one half the size and I couldn't change the monitor resolution size. (but, it showed the old desktop information so I knew right away that I hadn't actually reinstalled to the original state, but just reinstalled over the current desktop).
I restarted the computer to see if the window screen would enlarge to the full size. It did return to the full screen size, but Now, it freezes at the part of startup where the screen says "Windows is starting up". I left it on for 20 minutes and it was still frozen.
