ntldr problem. I used a boot disk to get into windows and it shows all the drives in the right order. windows on c, 2nd drive on d. but it won't boot up. i loaded through a windows disk to try to reinstall windows and it shows that windows is on d; and the other drive is c!!! thats why it cant load on start up. how do i fix this?
I purchased a used HP 8575c, Pentium III. History: original OS Windows 98 SE, previous owner installed Windows XP Pro, then computer would not "see" CD-rom or DVD-rom. He admitted to using a "Windows XP activation crack" to bypass registration of XP. He sold me the computer, and I was able to activate the CD-rom & DVD-rom by eliminating the "upperlimit" and "lowerlimit" HKEY settings. I wanted to install Windows 98 SE (my favorite system). I was able to load Windows 98 SE, but lost the CD and DVD again. And this time, there was no "upperlimit" or "lowerlimit" keys available. I decided to load my own Windows XP Pro (legitimate CD with key), but couldn't load it because of no CD capabilities.
I was advised to use a Killdisk floppy to wipe the HD, download the 6 Windows XP boot disks, which would load the needed drivers for the CD and DVD, and I could then load XP normally from the CD. I wiped the hard drive, inserted the 1st XP boot disk, no problem, it then called for disk 2, then this message appeared: file tkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded, error code is 7, setup cannot continue. I can get into bios where I restored defaults, but no change. The windows help site suggested hitting the F7 key when it calls for F6 about installing RAID, etc, but it didn't work. I don't know where to go from here. At this point the computer is a big paperweight.
First my computer was cutting off in the middle of any program. I decided to delete everything on the drive and reformat it and reload windows xp. While trying to load windows xp it would load the set up but when going to load files it locked up everytime. I tried also loading windows 98, 95 and they too locked up. At one point it said I had a virus in my boot sector and at another time it said I had a virus in my RAM. I got a program called PC Beginner to help partition my drive and redo the MBR. I can partition the drive and format it but windows still doesn't load. Now I wonder if there is a problem with the mother board and I have a dual bios board, I was wonder if there is a program loaded in the dual bios that may somehow causing my problem. If so what can be done to clear the problem? How can I get windows reloaded?
I was wondering what the difference was whether you had a program load at startup (by checking a box within the program to have it load when the computer boots) and unchecking that box but moving a shortcut to the programs executable into the startup folder on the start menu.
it posts fine, but takes 4 minutes from desktop appearing to fully load (noticably the last icon to appear on the taskbar is the LAN connection),the old pc would be ready to work within 30 seconds of powering on.i've tried booting with all non-essential startup items disabled via msconfig.reconfigured bios several times, using almost every bios version designed for this board, currently using the bios specifically designated for this CPU on this mobo.ram is configured according to mobo specs (its in the right slots).i am aware the agp card is somewhat underpowered, but it did provide reliable quality functionality on the old PC.
this was a clean XP home install (same disc used on previous PC) fully updated, hdd's are all ntfs partitions, regularly cleaned up and defragged.the best information i can gather from ASUS forums is that there is a problem with the on board ethernet (intel pro 1000) however there does not seem to be a solid fix or any updated drivers available, the LAN connection does drop in and out at random times sometimes frequently (enough to make me doubt it is an ISP problem) and sometimes not for a week are there any further suggestions?should i be disabling the onboard ethernet and installing a standard PCI 10/100 as i have gathered a faulty ethernet port does slow XP load times considerably.i should mention i have had the CPU professionaly tested good and ASUS support seems to be somewhere in the bermuda triangle for the p5p800se.
This doesn't appear to cause any real problems, other than about the same time, I tried to upgrade Itunes and got an error message that says "error writing to file C:program filesitunesitunes.resourcesko.lproj ingtone.nibobjects.xib. Verify that you have access to that directory".I don't know if the two are related. None of the fixes I have found elsewhere have solved my problem.
shuting down the wrong way I guess and now i try to start my kids computer and it won't load windows at all...it did have windows 2000 xp but now when i turn the computer on it just says windows cannot be found, what in the world did he do to it, and how can i fix it.just to let you know I had the PC built and mailed to me, so I don't have a windows cd to reinstall, and can't seem to find one from anyone, if in fact I need to reinstall

Operating System - Windows XP running on a HP Pavillion 761n - Missing dll files such as:mscvr80.dll and msvcp80.dll. Can't seem to find these files anywhere or I just don't know where to locate them.
when I reboot its extremely slow. Control Alt Delete shows 99% cpu use under processes. Not sure whats going on but been running find for a month at least haven't installed anything odd lately. Have a virus scanner and ad-ware installed.
edit * safe mode it loads fine no slow down. edit 2 - If I set windows to not load system services in msconfig it fixes the problem. What options does that load?
It all started when none of my folders would open or "mycomputer" or any "explorer.exe" related things. So I restarted the computer, and after restart the logon screen come on. I tryed to log in but all I got was the "Loadding your personal settings".Then nothing. So Ctrl-Alt-Del the consol comes up. I tried to run explorer.exe manuly but it just blinks on the screen and then disappear. It is almost like something is killing or not letting explorer.exe stay loaded.
i have a dell dimension e520 with stock everything from dell (P4, 512mb ram) First i had about 70 virus's on the hd, so i removed them when the drive was installed in another machine. So then windows was damaged from the removal, and so i did a clean install (after format), and everything was peachy, (installed windows, ran windows, installed programs etc.) well until i removed the xp installation cd, then it says "boot device not found, press f1 to continue, f2 to reboot". Here is the weird part, when i put the cd back in, reboot, and don't press a key when the " press any key to boot from cd" message comes up it will boot fine. Goes right into windows, etc.In order to reinstall windows, i had to change an option in the bios from raid mode on the sata hd to ATA/autodetect option, because i was getting the bsod 0x0000007b error. The xp cd i used to reinstall was xp sp1 (one of the dell oem ones).I was able to install windows, install all drivers, install sp3 etc.Everything was fine, until i removed the cd and rebooted.I attempted to change the raid option back to original setting in the bios, and reboot- and i got the same message. The bottom line is- everything works fine when i boot with the xp install cd in the cdrom (and do not press a key when it asks to boot from cd). When i boot without the install cd, then acts like there is no os.I have to admit, i have fixed many computers in my day, and this is the first time i have come across this.Could it be something wrong with the sata controller on the motherboard?
I have just installed new memory, new graphics card geforce 8800gt,new power supply, and new sata hard drive.
I have made a floppy disk from the motherboard cd for installing the drivers during windows instillation from my old pc first.
I switched on new pc to load windows and i get no signal on my monitor also my usb mouse and usb keyboard does not light up,iget power to motherboard and case fans +dvd drive,i have put my windows xp os disc into dvd drive and basically it does nothing.
Do i need to make a windows boot disc or something to start instillation.
I still have windows loaded on my secondary sata hdd but the system32 is corrupt,so i have opted to install new sata hdd, then transfer my files from secondary hdd, once that is done gonna format secondary drive and use it for storage. So i still have the option of entering the bios on my motherboard if i connect it up and disconnect the other drive.
I have left the drive disconnected while i install windows then gonna plug it in after windows installation.
The computer is slow to load windows 2000. Takes several mintues to connect to the net. Message showing that "Virtual Memory is low". Have gone into "My computer" - then "advanced options" and increased virtual memory to 1500. There is a good amount of space on the disc. But actions made no difference and still get the message that the virtual memory is low. Speed of computer not improved. Will try "System restore".
i have had problems with my computer for a while. i have windows xp. recently whenever i make any changes to the computer like desktop arrangement and shutdown none of the changes are saved. i tried to rrestore to a previous time when there were no problems but when it booted back up just before it come to the windows screen it says "windows cannot load the locally stored profile. possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile." then "windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile."
Need help! my old 120 gb hd will not load windows xp. It stalls at the safe mode option page and will not load in safe mode, last known or normally.
I bought new 160 gb hd and tried to install windows xp from original cd, which does work on other computers, but only loads everything and stalls at starting windows.
I want to install a new primary hard drive and reinstall windows xp from scratch on the new c: drive. For the moment I would also like to retain the old disc contents and the xp operating system. To try to do this I installed a second hard drive and cloned the old drive c: to the new drive f:. I created a dual boot computer by editing my boot.ini file so I could boot from either the c: or f: drive. I replaced my primary hard drive with a new drive and booted up in the f: drive. Then I cloned the f: drive back to the new c: drive creating a dual boot system. My concern now is that if I reinstall windows xp on the newly installed hard drive, the Dell installation disk will wipe out the operating system and the contents on the f: drive. Is there any way to retain the old system? I'd appreciate any help with this.
When i used to load a dvd into the dvd drive it would load auto. for some reason it now does not and so i have to go into the program for the load dvd drive. i was told about two things to do, one of which was a powertoy for windows (tweak ui) and was also told about another one and i have forgotten it. that one i forgot was the actual one which fixed my dvd drive so when a dvd was placed in the drive it loaded automatically. the gentlemen i was dealing with in this regard has finally become fed up with me as this the second time i have now asked for advice and he did indeed fix the problem but it has happened again due to my brother who thinks he knows the computer world inside out but at least he had fun on my laptop.
i have a hp compaq dc7100 it has a sata hard drive in it, i need the drivers for it, not able to load xp on in locks up, i do not have the drives, i checked with hp not able to find.
Dell 4500 with 256mb RAM 40 gB hard drive. Son tries to load game and system says not enough memory. Only 4gB free. I update ZA, Spybot, Adaware and Norton and run everything. Find 3 non-viral potential threats through NAV. update spywareblaster. Run diskcleanup and empty temp internet files. These are all things I do regularly (not every day but more than twice a wweek) and I backup to external drive once a month at least
Yesterday my pc decided to give me a bit of grief. I loaded up the pc and went to click into My Documents and found the whole computer just free up. I restarted the pc thinking it was just messing me around, intending to do a defrag and virus scan to make sure (Norton 2010 internet security). To my horror, the pc wouldnt move past the Windows XP boot logo, it just sat there with the loading bar moving across the screen as if it was permantnly trying to load.
I reset again hoping to start it in safe mode, however upon doing selecting "Start In Safe Mode" it went through to a black load screen with white writing and populated the screen with loads of text about how it couldnt load specific windows files located on a partitioned part of the hard drive (that I load the OS on).
Hello, when I start windows on my computer, instead of loading to desktop, it starts to c:windows, and I can see all the system folders. Have checked for virus using Norton scan, and also cleaned spyware, using Spybot.
]so I just reinstalled windows on my new computer and I am finding that when my "My book" fire wire drive is connected, the computer takes forever to load past the black windows loading screen. with my old computer the system would boot fine with the drive connected (no changes have been made to the external drive)
I took a hard drive out of another computer and put it into my computer to fix it. (I have my reasons for doing that) i hooked up the hard drive and when i turned on my computer, it loads the screen(the screen where it shows the master, slave, etc.). Then it loads the screen about boot from CD, and then it stops It stays at that screen and doesnt load windows.
Every time my computer starts I get the message: windows cannot find C:/program files/ca/etrust pestpatrol/core/ppclean.exe The problem is that I've uninstalled the program it refers to and iany known leftovers, but still the message appears.Same message also with lavasoftad-aware6ad-aware.exe
I turned on my Asus A6000 Entertainment Notebook today (Windows XP), it started up normal and then a blue screen came on saying that there was a problem and that Windows could not run and it rebooted itself. After that, the windows loading page would just play over for a long while and it will either reboot itself again or take me to the F8 function of the laptop. I tried to run safe mode
