Files Are Downloading To Folder Called Recent
Jul 5, 2005I am using Windows XP. When I download certain things to the desktop, they don't actually save to the Desktop, but rather to a folder called "Recent." When I search for these files using the Windows search tool, I can find them, but I don't know how to (a) open the "Recent" folder or (b) re-route it so they actually download to the desktop.

Major Crash & Reboot / Drag & Drop Files To CD Burner
Aug 20, 2005Recently I retreived a bunch of my pictures off of our church computer.I burned them to disk with some Roxio program.I brought them to home computer and put them in the appropriate file with other pictures from same event.It was my intention to make one CD with all pictures from same event on it.I selected pictures, hit properties had quite a bit of hang time.I selected all pictures for burning.I told the burner what to do using the Win XP pro directions (wizard?) and walked away. DIdn't work, had a problem.Low on memory, so I rebooted. Came back and deleted a bunch of pics that had been archived.Selected pics again, but during the time it was transferring files to the CD (before the wizard) it put up a black screen with a bunch of information that flashed too quickly to read before it rebooted.

Jan 8, 2006I woke up one day (hadn't installed anything in the meantime) and was unable to drag any icons or folders. My mouse won't "pick up" any of them, on my desktop or within a folder. I can drag program windows around, so I don't think it's an issue with my mouse. I thought maybe a recent Windows Update had messed it up, so I uninstalled the most recent one, but it didn't do anything.

May 31, 2006I cannot move any of the desktop icons.I cannot drag and drop any files, but copy and paste works.I cannot mouse click in between different programs many times and often have to use Alt-Tab to get around windows.Since this has shown up, I reformatted and installed Windows at least 10 times. I've run numerous virus and spyware programs and found the system to be clean.

Dec 21, 2004I have always been able to "drag" sites I have in my favorites list to a position I wanted them, regardless of their name or ABC order or whether or not they were folders or individual sites, but all of a suuden my 98 system lists them in ABC order with the folders first and the individual sites following and I can't change it where they will stay where I move them to. Does anyone know what has happened or tell me where to go to change the setting to get this corrected? Seems like more view this XP forum than the 98 forim so I entered it in both.

However, the uninstall folder that I am supposed tobe seeing under Registry/Local Machine/Software/Microsoft/ Windows/Current Version ismissing. On the how do you want to connect to the internet page, connect using a broad band connection is allready checked and the other choices are greyed out. Nov 10, 2009When I attempt to open a file or to get a directory listing in Windows explorer I have a delay of about 12 seconds. Before I get a listing (within a program) I see where it says at the top "Open - not responding". After eventually getting the listing I will be able to obtain another listing quite quickly while in that program. If I exit the program and go to another as from Word to Excel I again experience the slow listing and the "Open - not responding" before the listing shows. Long ago I had a similar problem where the listing took an even 30 seconds to appear and it was determined to be a virus. Nothing shows in any of my virus scans.

No Sound From Laptop After Recent Reformat
Dec 30, 2007first off, never under any circumstances use a laptop in a machine shop to listen to music. ever. after a fall off a mill and onto the floor hdd failed. installed new one, put xp pro on it, began to get the updates and such from gateways website, first off, it still has no network connections other than my sprint air card, and my 1394 port. so i am missing my local network and wireless network. second massive problem, is have no sound. under the sounds and audio devices window in the volume tab, it says no audio device. under device manager it says audio codecs and legacy audio drivers (twice) none have any error. when i clicked on the troubleshooting tab it gave the question of weather the the volume was muted, i clicked on volume link it brought up an error stating no mixing devices were found.

Aug 29, 2005When you create several files in a word processor or spreadsheet or other program, the program will list the files you recently created the next time you start it, down toward the bottom of the File button on the menu. How do you clear the list of recent files? My wife is copying some old audio cassettes to CD. When she is done with each cassette, she deletes the files from the computer but they still show up on the files menu. This bothers the heck out of her so she is bothering the heck out of me to get rid of the file listing.

Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value called 'NoRecentDocsHistory' set the value to equal '1' to enable the restriction.
Exit your registry, you may need to restart for the changes to take effect.
