Anyone else having issues with their network shares after winxp update? I didn't upgrade to SP3 because this upgrade had caused a problem for me also. Just did a few security fixes.. Is there a way to fix this without having to uninstall all the patches?
View 6 RepliesI have Windows XP Home system that shares a folder and 2 printers with 2 other XP Home systems and 1 XP Pro system.All 4 computers are in the same workgroup Somewhere between 10 and 30 minutes after startup the XP Pro system loses the ability to browse the local network and loses contact with the shared folder and the printers. The share and the printers are still visible and useable to the other systems on the network

Windows Installer for MS Office 2000 is trying to install something but the installer has gets access denied at the share where originally installed from. No changes to the system have been made except leaving on auto-updates on our XP machines. Users can freely access the share, yet Windows Installer gets access denied. What gives? Has there been a recent update to Windows Installer that is causing grief on Server 2003 + XP domains. Have not installed 2003 Server SP1 patch yet even.

I get the message: The pid is not valid for this version of Windows XP. Provide the pid that came with the Windows XP upgrade CD. I know its not from the Product Key I'm giving it being invalid, because when I intentionally type it in wrong, I get another kind of error message about a bad PID. Also, I purchased the retail from a large office supply chain. So, why can't I use a retail upgrade XP Pro on top of a OEM XP home?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer totally crashed and I had to go in and format the MBR and load the Ntldr file as well. But now when I try to do a fresh install and boot from the XP cd i get to where I press the F8 to agree and the message I get is as follows:
"The setup can not find a previous version of windows installed on your computer. To continue, setup needs to verify that you qualify to use this upgrade product. Please insert your windows NT3.51,windows NT4.0, windows 2000 CD into the specified drive and click enter to continue".I know this sounds like I am using a Upgrade CD to Windows XP but the CD i am using IS a full OEM Version of Windows XP and NOT a upgrade version

After I installed a usb 2.0 card and triple my memory size. my monitor after about an hour stop working. I tried everything (or almost everything that I know). I reseat the battery on the motherboarb, disconnect and reconnect almost every wire, use different monitors` that I know works, still their is no signal going to my monitor when I boot.

Used Zone Alarm for firewall and AVG for antivirus.I just upgraded to the newest version of ZA and uninstalled AVG. Am using ZA for Firewall & antivirus.I have two computers connected via router. My computer is the one with the router in Internet connection.I installed ZA on second computer and deleted AVG as well. Computer 2 can see my system, share files and print, but on my computer I am unable to see the other computer or share printer/files. I added the computer 1's ip address to trusted in ZA firewall, but still nothing works. have also made sure window firewall is off.

View 6 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to Windows XP Service Pack 2, my network adapter (a 3Com 3C905-TX-M)does not appear in Device Manager and I therefore can't get this computer to appear on my home network. The network adapter is still working because that's how I connect to the Internet, via LAN to a router then cable broadband,and IPCONFIG gives valid results including the correct IP address from the router via DHCP.I installed a clean copy of XP Home on a spare hard disk. The network adapter appeared in Device Manager and the computer appeared on the network. I then upgraded to SP2 and the network adapter disappeared from Device Manager and the computer no longer appears on the network.

Each time I open "my recent documents" from the Start menu and delete an item, the whole list closes and I have to open again, and go through that each time for multiple deletes. How can I keep the list open and do multiple deletes at one time?

first off, never under any circumstances use a laptop in a machine shop to listen to music. ever. after a fall off a mill and onto the floor hdd failed. installed new one, put xp pro on it, began to get the updates and such from gateways website, first off, it still has no network connections other than my sprint air card, and my 1394 port. so i am missing my local network and wireless network. second massive problem, is have no sound. under the sounds and audio devices window in the volume tab, it says no audio device. under device manager it says audio codecs and legacy audio drivers (twice) none have any error. when i clicked on the troubleshooting tab it gave the question of weather the the volume was muted, i clicked on volume link it brought up an error stating no mixing devices were found.

How do you clear the list of recent files? My wife is copying some old audio cassettes to CD. When she is done with each cassette, she deletes the files from the computer but they still show up on the files menu. This bothers the heck out of her so she is bothering the heck out of me to get rid of the file listing.

Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value called 'NoRecentDocsHistory' set the value to equal '1' to enable the restriction.
Exit your registry, you may need to restart for the changes to take effect.

Added all the new updates from Micrsoft, my antivirus, Tweak UI, MS Word and nothing else yet when I went to the start menu and the My Recent Documents wasn't there. I went to the Properties (right-click on taskbar) and it's not there either. As a matter of fact there is no link or short cut or place to activate it anywhere.

When I search for these files using the Windows search tool, I can find them, but I don't know how to (a) open the "Recent" folder or (b) re-route it so they actually download to the desktop.

View 14 Replies View RelatedAfter downloading the most recent firewall update to Mcafee personal firewall plus the computer kicked me out and rebooted. I contacted McAfee support and was - after numerous attempts - able to load their latest DAT file on the system and run a DOS scan which took 55 minutes. It found at least one trojan (the Multidropper .F trojan). I thought this would solve the problem. No. Went into SAFE MODE and was able to remove Personal Firewall. Rebooted the sytem. Bam! Once my desktop loaded, the computer rebooted again. McAfee's Security Center is still on my system, but the firewall has been uninstalled. The Computer is still rebooting continuously. Even SAFE mode takes forever to boot up. Before I take the computer into the local PC shop what can I do
