My kids downloaded limewire this weekend and downloaded a bunch of stuff--spyware included I think. Anyway, there are now tool bars installed that we keep uninstalling that reappear instantly, other programs we can't uninstall. Our MS Anti-spyware beta won't even run, we keep getting an error that says "rendering lens," and the computer is dragging in general.

and start menu option I wanted to see if my desktop icons were locked. So i
browsed around and when i did i saw all the icons left from old software
programs i do not and have not used as a matter of fact some programs i did
not have no more than 24 hours because i did not like it at all.. My
question is how do i safely remove these folders and files in my program
files and how do I get rid of these icons. It is disturbing to know you
uninstalled thru add/remove programs yet there is still stuff in the program
files under YET GET THIS the name of the software program i just uninstalled
something is wrong here. Anyway just teach me or someone please advise
preferably from technet because i do not want to screw up my registry or
anything else like other programs
I just downloaded Explorer 7 I think it is. Problem I'm having is when I hit my back button or "backspace," explorer doesn't always respond. Why is this?
It gets really annoying because in some instances I will have to hit the back button several times for the previous page to load

I did get the feeling it had something to do with graphics though.This was maybe 2 days ago. I tried playing a game right now (Command and Conquer) and for some reason it was lagging horribly. I've ran it fine in the past. Are these two things related? Either way is there some way to redownload the program? I've tried googling all over but the only links I find are linking to an informer.com domain, whereupon it says it doesnt have the software but to try googling it.

I have tried again and again to get it to stay on and checked, all to no avail. I don't understand why. At the desk top I right click anywhere to get to very small window with (properties) at the very bottom. I then click on Properties and get (Appearance). Next I click on appearance tab to get to the window that has the (Effects) button. Next, I click on the effects tab and look to see if the little bitty square next to (Show Window Contents While Dragging) is checked. And it is never checked. So I check it to get the effect of dragging the contents with the window as I move it around the screen.

On my home pc (XP Home) if I do the same thing, the item is copied to "My Document" and I then have to delete the original left on my desktop. Downloaded what I thought what is an update... now my computer is freezing and running slow, denying access to programs.I have windows 2000 professional and a microsoft (or at least what I thought was a microsoft) update popped up. When I go to Turn Off Computer, the "Turn Off" button has changed, indicating that when I hit it, it will install the updates. There's also a field I can click which will Turn Off without installing the updates. When I click the Turn Off buttion, it attempts to install two updates. It doesn't appear to be successful. Every time I Turn Off Computer it apparently tries to install the same two updates. I can reboot and do this over and over and they don't "take".There's nothing in Event Viewer to indicate what's going on. I couldn't find any installation logs though I'm not sure where to look.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI was working away on this Win XP Pro box that is used as a server.I was in a Net Meeting with a client and the next thing I know the PC crashed.No error messages, no beeps nothing just BAM dead.So I try to reboot the box and the High freq. beeps that (or I think) sound when a CPU is over heating. So I leave the PC alone with the side off for 4hrs and try again.And get the same thing.So I then (this is a server) take the hard drive out and put it in a different PC and try to boot it. I get the normal the PC didn't shut down properly message and no matter what I select the reboot just hangs.This PC is only approx. 8 weeks old and the person who manages this box doesn't do backups on the drive.So my question/plea for help is how can I get this PC back up and running or at the very least get this hard drive working in the other PC.

It looks like it has to do with speech recognition, and text. Of course I removed it, but it came back. I read up on it, and it said it would come back. Do I need this? I never had this before, did I get it with the latest updates from Microsoft 2000? I've taken the check mark out, plus I have completely removed it from my start up, but it still comes back.

When this happens I am not able to turn my computer back on. I have to unplug everything. When I plug it back in, the light is usually still orange but I just keep hitting the on and off button until it finally turns green and the computer will start up. I will now shut my computer down at night but when I get up in the morning the light on the computer is orange again.

Sometimes I am watching a movie, sometimes playing a game, and sometimes, I just leave it open coz a download is running, I come back and check 10 minutes later, the computer has hanged. I have noticed that when this happens, the hard-disk light comes permanently on.
Ran AVG and found few viruses, removed those, no avail. Ran malware/spyware remover, found few, removed those, no avail. Formatted C drive, reinstalled windows, PC ran well for 10 days, problem came back. Initially had 512 MB RAM, changed it to 1GB, formatted PC again, PC ran well for 10 days, problem back again. Can't run checkdisks and all because the comp hangs every single time.
