View 7 Repliesjust rebuilt my computer and it seems to freeze about every hour while playing WoW online.I am using on board sound on an ASUS K8V-X with a Sempron 3000+.In checking my event logs, the application lists the following errors at corresponding times to the system freezes. By freez, I mean I can't alt tab out of the program or get the system to recognize any type of input. I have to do a hard reboot every time.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy computer runs on WinXP Pro. Lately, it has started showing some trouble in processing speed. If more than one Internet Explorer windows are opened, or if applications like ADOBE Photoshop are used, the system slows down to almost a standstill. Even using the Windows Task Manager to shut down certain processes doesn't help.
I've run virus scans and spyware scans and the problem still persists.

i was previously ripping a lot of music from cd's onto my Sony Vaio, spent about six hours doing it. i shut off my comp that night and turned it on the next day, only to find that it would sit at the xp loading screen for 4 minutes until getting to the login page. along with that, i have random processor spikes and my comp is slowed down. all media, music or vids are lagged and have a digital static to them. i have defraged, and run anti-virus/ spyware programs trying to see if i have encountered a software issue, because that is what it sounds like w/ the processor spikes. i can't figure out what i have done and i'm wondering if anyone can head me in the right direction before i go ahead and reformat

Tried a restore to last known good restore point... made no difference. Should I just do a restore using Windows Disc or is there possibly something more sinister going on here?

I sometimes have to attempt to shut it down a second time via Start/Turn Off Computer/Restart (or Shut Down). When I do Control/Alt/Delete to try to get the Task Manager it takes a long time to pop up. What do I need to do to find out what's hanging things up?

I am getting extremely annoyed with the message that keeps popping up every thirty seconds (see attachment). I don't know why it's searching for some removable media (I think) when my thumb drive is still inserted. I have been having similar problems since the stupid Geek Squad told me I needed a new hard drive and then named it the "H" drive for some reason; now from time-to-time when I try to run programs which (I think) used to be based off my C drive I'll get one of these or a C+++ runtime error window.How can I make this stop? I'm running Windows XP SP3. on an HP desktop. All help is appreciated, as this is a highly annoying problem right now.

Now I have to search for the folder each time I view a page within the folder. I have XP SP3 with IE8. Is there any way to change the way favorites works (options)? I hate that favorites closes every time instead of staying open while you're trying to find a particular page. Seems its gotten less friendly through the years.

I have a dell computer and my operating system is Windows XP.
On my old gateway keyboard i would press F11 and i would be able to view full screen, press again and it would return to all tool bars and search menus, etc. I now have a wireless Logitech keyboard and mouse. When i press F11 it now opens a box indicating "no function has been applied to this key, would you like to assign function to this button, click yes if so.when i click yes it is set to assign for F11 key, but it asks for which task? and nowhere under TASK:, does it have "full screen". Also, i know that if i click on "view" and it drops sub menu, at the very bottom it says "full screen" F11. But if i click on this and it gives me full screen i have no way to return to my tool and search menu.

I'm on XP home SP2 and all updates are current. I run 2 anti virus programs, use SpyBot, Adaware, SpywareBlaster & CW Shredder. I've checked for virus's and run ousecall.henever I see anything suspicious I delete with a vengence and my security settings are properly set. I've shutdown the System Restore, deleted everything suspect in the registry manually, run every antispyware, antivirus program I can think of (regularly too). I shut down and restart the PC and everything I've deleted returns. I never find much of anything to report after running all tests, except mru's and an occasional tracker. My PC works fine, my connection is fast and I experience absolutely no problems I'm aware of. Obviously there's something I'm missing or not doing as I don't visit suspect sites. A helping hand here would be much appreciated.
Presently double click brings up Search. How can I return double click to Open?
View 6 Replies View Relatedhi folks, my problem is this, one of my home pcs a packard bell 1.5 p4 shows as having an invalid product key and wont let me update "ok" and when i try to install a fresh xp on top of it(legal) it will only get so far and then i get a stop screen come up and i have to shut it down and reopen using the allready installed xp, i dont have a recovery disc to return it to factory settings which leaves me stuck on the dodgy xp. My ? is this, is there some way i can enter the key without installing a fresh xp and if not how do i get past the stop screen and install. Any help and suggestions/advice will be greatly appreciated and i will supply any further info that may be necessary.

View 10 Replies View RelatedIf your list of software in "All Programs" starts going off the screen you can return to the old style of having them scroll,this also makes them all expand to the right and not on top of each other, which makes selection easier.Goto start - control panel - taskbar and start menu - start menu - customise advanced - and then scroll down start menu items list, near bottom is the choice to "scroll programs", tick it and apply , ok all screens and your done.

I can hit <ctrl+alt+del>, then <k> to lock the screen, immediately try to log back in and it will take over a minute to show me my desktop again.I don't know where to begin to troubleshoot this. I also have Ubuntu installed on a separate partition and grub is the bootloader; however, I don't see how this could affect my WinXp install since Ubuntu is not running at the time.

I have an external USB CD-ROM and Floppy, but there are only 2 USB ports, and no PS/2 keyboard slot, so I've had to use a USB keyboard. Despite the BIOS being compatible with booting through USB, it doesn't recognise the CD-ROM, but it does recognise the Floppy. I tried using a bootable floppy with the I386 folder from the install CD copied to the Hard Drive (formatted as FAT32), but when I run WINNT.exe then try to change over the Floppy drive for the CD-ROM, it can't find the CD-ROM drive.

Never installed a SATA drive before so I don't know if this is normal for an internal sata dvd drive??
In the BIOS I set SATA=IDE. Only other option is Raid which I assume would be for a SATA HDD.
I've been trying to install windows xp from a cd onto my dell c400 notebook which does not have an internal cd drive. I have a Dell Dimension 8300 desktop with 80GB hard drive and 3 GB RAM. Dell do told me I can have only a total of 120GB hard drive on my machine. Dell forum said that is not right. The Dell manual states there is are 2 bays for 1" high hard drives and it gives installation directions for adding a second internal drive. I have 3 external hard drives for backups, photos and much of what I don't need or want on the C drive. I need to install more programs for photography since they can not be run from an external drive according to those I have asked.

View 9 Replies View Relatedproblem setting the CD/DVD icon to return to it's normal icon in My Computer. It currently has the Audio CD icon. I've played an audio CD awhile ago and since then, the icon has remained. This icon is causing problems when I open a Data CD. When the Data CD is inserted the Audio icon emains. When I click on the icon, Media Player starts. I have disabled the auto-run or auto-play setting prior to this problem. I would have to right-click and select Open to get to the data files.
Under Windows Explorer, when I click on the icon, it shows the contents of
the data CD but the Audio icon is still present.
