Could someone please help look to see what is making this computer so slow to respond to commands. I added RAM and it still seems busy doing something most of the time.It is my Mom's computer and I'm trying to help her with it. Just got it on high speed hoping that would help by letting the programs update in the background.
View 6 RepliesWhen i open IE6 it takes over a minute for the webpage to appear and meanwhile i cant minimise it etc...... It looks like the program is failing to respond but doesn't say so. Once loaded browsing is normal, althought every time a separate IE window is opened the initial slow response applies followed by normal browsing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am on an XP2 home edition pc - toshiba satellite celeron. Within the past few days, I've had a terrible time with slow keystroke response. I first noticed this a month or so ago whilst in the MSN Spaces blog sites on just a few of the spaces that I frequented. Now, it seems to be every place (even here while I'm typing this). However, it doesn't seem to be a problem with MSN messenger, or Skype. I've run 2 different spyware apps (Spyware doctor & spybot search & destroy) and a full virus scan (avast). I did a restore back to June 13, prior to the Microsoft updates. Still the slow response is happening.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis issue is occurring on 2 computers - In the past 2 weeks Windows updates cause MAJOR lag in operations - can't open apps, slow response from browser.Updates mostly hang in the 30% range and do not move forward for hours....I leave the computers on over night to complete and sometimes the operation is still not complete.Have disabled auto updates to no avail. It still activates on reboot.
Where is the location of the temp files for the updates so they can be deleted to start fresh without autoupdate?
I've read other threads recently regarding update problems but didn't want to hijack them with my own issue.
I'm not sure what's wrong but it takes like 1 min to open a document, or to start up a program. I'm not quite sure how to fix it, because I'm not quite sure what's wrong.It started happening like a week ago... So my computer didn't start out like this

Yesterday, my dad downloaded jzip and winrar and a free video editing software from AVS, I believe it is AVS 4 Editor. Soon after that whenever I did a right click, the response seemed to lag and slow to come up. Any selection I clicked from the right click selection would seem to hang there on the screen even though the computer processed it. It goes away after I right click again but not select.It only happens when I right click on the desktop, start menu, taskbar. When I right click in my browser firefox, it is alright. I unistalled AVS4 but the problem persists. All my programs are running fine. The rick click slowness is just nagging.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently reloaded windows xp from scratch in a 2004 dell inspiron laptop using Dell cd's. It was working fine with sp2, but later I added sp3 and now computer takes about 5 minutes to open an application (anything from MSOffice apps to web browsers to anything else. After it finally comes up, it works slow but doable.
I would like to know what are the things I should be looking at that could be slowing the process so much. Is sp3 related? I'd rater not remove sp3 since all the applications were loaded after sp3 was installed
I completely reformatted my HD and reinstalled windows. I added the drivers and just a couple of aps. Now my computer is SO slow. Aps take a good 30 seconds to open as do web pages. There is the odd time where something will open quickly (seems random) but not too often. I ran Hijack this, spybot and adaware and found nothing nothing to find.

Initially, I'd hoped for something akin to the "Run at user logon" or "Run at startup" optionsavailable in the schedule tab of a scheduled task, but there is no setting for "Run at resume from standby/hibernation"
Restore a VPN connection after the computer's network capabilities are restored on resuming from hibernation. This is important because I have to occasionally wake thesystem from offsite using its Wake-On-LAN NIC. I've tried setting up a scheduled task to run at start-up and user logon which uses RASDIAL to dial the appropriate VPN connection, but this connection depends on the logged-in user's credentials, so it won't work at start-up. When set to have it run at user logon, it doesn't run when the computer comes out of hibernation.
I have created a file for eg " abc.xyz". How do I schedule to run this file at specific times using dos prompt/command prompt?

Running a VB program from Sheduled Tasks, the VB program is supposed to bring up a form with information. The program works fine when started the "normal" way but when i start it from Sheduled Tasks it does start but it does not bring up the form. You can see the program running among the processes but thats all.

Adaware pops right up at the appointed time, but requires a "run scan" click from me to proceed any further. I've configured AdAware for automated scans and had hoped the scheduler, combined with this setting would kick off a truly automatic scan while I sleep soundly.

When I still had File and Folder Tasks under My Computer it did not have anything about doing Copy. How do you add that to File and Folder Tasks if I get it back under My Computer.
I've tried in different accounts and even in the addmin account in safe mode and I always get the same error.I also get this error at home (this is my girlfriends computer) the error reads:New Task has been created, but may not run because the account info could not be sent.The specific is: 0x80041315 The task scheduler service is not running.What am I doing wrong? This means I can't start the machine and walk away and have it up when I return. There is no password and a simple Enter is accepted. Problem 2: The view preference "thumbnails" in my picture folder is never saved! Each time I open the folder I have to set it on again! The problem is that my pict folder is not in the System disk.

View 8 Replies View RelatedWell just recently my computer has been slowing to a crawl when I do (normally) simple tasks. Usually I can run a spyware scan on top of playing iTunes, working on a Word document and much more with no problems, but today I noticed that suddenly a scan by AVG alone is using nearly 70-80 percent of my processing power . Also Windows has been taking darn near forever to load. More than 2 minutes. I know this can't be normal. I've had this problem before but received almost no replies so please someone help. This is really ruining my computing experience. By the way I have an AMD Athlon X2 4200+. Any guesses as to what the problem might be?

I pretended for some time I did not care, but that is now making me pull the hair from my head.I installed something (which I did not pay attention to at that time and I don't remember what it was) and too many other programs after that (programs I constantly use, and therefore I don't want to get rid of). Numerous runs of these programs has not solved the problem. I have not added any new hardware or other programs (besides the spyware and anti-virus).
