View 1 RepliesI'm trying to schedule AdAware to run weekly in the middle of the night. I've set up a scheduled task which does exactly what it is supposed to do--to a point. Adaware pops right up at the appointed time, but requires a "run scan" click from me to proceed any further. I've configured AdAware for automated scans and had hoped the scheduler, combined with this setting would kick off a truly automatic scan while I sleep soundly.

Initially, I'd hoped for something akin to the "Run at user logon" or "Run at startup" optionsavailable in the schedule tab of a scheduled task, but there is no setting for "Run at resume from standby/hibernation"
Restore a VPN connection after the computer's network capabilities are restored on resuming from hibernation. This is important because I have to occasionally wake thesystem from offsite using its Wake-On-LAN NIC. I've tried setting up a scheduled task to run at start-up and user logon which uses RASDIAL to dial the appropriate VPN connection, but this connection depends on the logged-in user's credentials, so it won't work at start-up. When set to have it run at user logon, it doesn't run when the computer comes out of hibernation.
It was fine til her son installed some regular computer games you buy in a store. Then suddenly when she double clicked her desktop icons to open them instead of opening a program they would create a shortcut on the desktop though duplicating her icons. Also her mouse was making her text smaller and bigger without her having it do so. She also told me that when she was in firefox it would suddenly open up many tabs without her asking it to of the same thing. She tried to do a system restore to an earlier time but it wouldnt even let her go to the calendar to pick a date. She called me to find out if I knew anything. I got her to boot her computer in Safe Mode and run a virus scan which found nothing. To me it sounds like some sort of malware or spyware but not sure. Do you have any ideas other then reformatting the pc which is what I think her husband will end up doing unless I can find another answer.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to restore my computer to an earlier date, but when i tried to find the system restore, it was not there. First i went to start, all programs, accessories, and system tools. When i saw that it was not there, i entered the run command for it. When i did that, i got the same message you would get if you enter an invalid command. After that didn't work, i entered "msconfig" in the run box, and then once the system configuration utility appeared, i went to the tools tab and highlighted System Restore, and clicked Launch. But then a window popped up saying the following: "The system cannot find the file specified".
I am about 75-85% sure that the rstrui.exe file was deleted by one of the young ones fiddling around inside the system folders. What i do not know is how to get it back. I remember one time when the windows sound recorder executable file had gotten deleted, i just downloaded it from the internet, put it in the right spot and it was fixed. I can't seem to do that with the system restore executable file. Any ideas on how i can fix this?
I've had my HP computer for quite some time (5 years at least), still runs great and all. But here recently my harddrive crashed when trying to do something (still using that harddrive), when I tried to use the system restore feature from HP,it wouldn't let me, so I had to get a WindowsXP disc from someone. Using their copy of windows won't let me update windows or anything, so I decided I would just system restore using HP's system restore. (Format and reinstall my windows), but when I hit the F10 at bootup, it does nothing

They also show the watermark for images for the background image (when I have this feature on). How can I fix this? There is no Customize tab under Properties for these folders. I have set the System Restore tab in My Computer Properties tab to not moniter this external hard drive K. Problem is that every now and then when I plug in every now and then for backing up my files via Briefcase - this will activate the System Restore function on that hard drive. This usually happens when I have the hard drive plugged in when I either turn off or turn on my computer. I stopped having the hard drive plugged in to hopefully stop the stop the System Restore on that hard drive (and then re-checked the System Restore tab)

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen my Windows XP pro system is made to hibernate after certain idle time period (as per the power option settings) , it is virtually hibernates but automatically gets started after some time and reboots. When I manually hibernate the system by the shut down options it hibernates. But when I try to resume it, it shows a blue screen for very short time showing some error and then prompts me to clear restoration data and continue with system reboot. In both cases, after the computer is on, an error message appears saying "system recovered from fatal error". So all in all, even if I hibernate my computer, it will have to be rebooted the next time I start it
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have not posted into here in a while which is kind of promising. I suppose it means I am getting better with my computer skills, a fact for which I am compelled to thank many of the folks around here... Anyways...Today I have question regarding backing up data to an external hard drive. I am trying to schedule my data to back up nightly around 12:00 Am. I have so far tried using microsoft's backup utility, which even after scheduled does not run, and a program called sonic, backup my pc. I can get microsoft backup to run if I do it manually, but I would like a nightly auto backup to be in place. Neither program seems to want to run on a scedule. I am asking for advice from anyone who may know of a pretty reliable (I know nothing is totally reliable) method of doing a nightly backup that requires fairly little monitoring. I searched through these boards a bit, but decided to post my own thread after not finding what I was after.

I'm having a problem with my XP laptop. I've been hibernating my laptop daily for the past couple of years. Recently after waking up from every hibernation, the laptop gives the following error message:System restart has been paused:Continue with system restart.Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu. After that it boots into Windows, however i lose all of my open programs which is rather annoying. Does anyone know how to resolve this?

When I hit F10 upon startup in order to access the system recovery, nothing happens- it boots as it would regularly. I was able to boot up using the CD, and am now in the System Recovery console. Might anyone tell me what I need to do to perform a non-destructive, or even a destrucitve system recovery?

View 6 Replies View RelatedThis little tweak allows you to customize the grouping action on your taskbar. According to the default, if you have more than (ex.) 3 internet explorer windows open, XP will group them into a single button with a menu that lifts off the taskbar. You can change the number of windows that are open before XP groups them.goto[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced]look for the dword "TaskbarGroupSize"If it isn't already there, right click on the right pain, and create a new dword value. Double click the value, and enter the number of windows you want xp to allow open before it groups them. I personally like 2, because I like any related window to be grouped automatically, but, you can set this high if you wish.
