I'm attempting to open the 'Google Earth' program, which I've downloaded. I've got a video card: SiS 650_740 but whenever I try to open the program in 'OpenGL' mode it comes up with an error notice saying 'SISGL Warning: Out of video memory. This program will exit'. I tried opening Google Earth with the alternate DirectX mode, but it froze.I've only got a couple of video emails on my computer, but not many.
View 2 RepliesDell XPS laptop filled with junk software and is running an average of 72 process which is crazy since most of the pc's are tweaked out so their only running about 30 processes at a time. Even if you exit out of all of the programs in the system tray, there's still like 69 processes going. And besides that lately he's been having tons of network issues so we're just going with a clean install. Besides, it was never reinstalled to begin with so it still has all of the Dell crap that came with it from the start.
the Dell Media Direct thingy. I'm not sure if my dad still has any of the disks that came with the laptop. We have plenty of XP Pro cds. I can find places on the web for instructions for doing this, but I'm open to suggestions because I've never installed any of Dell's crap. I'm not using an XP cd that has SP2 installed. But I don't think it's a problem since I'll be loading SATA drivers, right? Should just be plug and pray after that right? I'll get updates immediately. Also, is there anything special that I need to be warned about before I do this? Hopefully someone has reinstalled XP on an XPS before to help guide me through this. I've installed windows so many times but this seems like a different kind of project...
My system is a Dell Windows XP (SP-3) All Windows Updates are installed and I have 512 MGS of RAM. On Start Up, there is not a lot of extra programs running in the background, and most of the time, my system runs fast. (I use MS Config.) Today, however in my System Tray, I got a Low Virtual Memory Warning Message. What does this mean? I use IE 8 most of the time and occasionally Firefox 3.5.The other thing that I noticed is that from time to time when I right-click on the desktop, I will get a momentary fade-out before the options come into view on the screen. The same thing will sometimes happen when I right-click on my Avast Anti-Virus ball in my System Tray. I only use the computer for Word Processing, e-mail and basic Web Browsing. The computer was purchased in October 2004. Why would I be getting this warning?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI booted up my computer and left it running for a while I noticed I got a Low virtual memory warning. So I opened up task manger and saw the my PF usage was extremely high (around 1.5 GB) and I didn't have anything open or running. Then I restarted it and had the same problem later. After a while some times it will render the computer useless as I can't get anything to run as its so slow. Even as I'm typing this message my PF usage is slowly increasing. I also notice that my "Handles" are slowly increasing too. All that I've done to the computer recently is install a Dynex Wireless G USB adapter. I dont think it's the cause of the problem because when I take the USB adpater out the computer and leave it running.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been having some troubles with my Compaq Presario (Windows XP) over the past few days including extremely slow start up (about a full 7 minutes to boot up, when it used to take about 3) and a slow shut down process. I have already gone through the msconfig and unchecked everything unnecessary. Also my mouse is a bit jumpy, as in when I drag it, sometimes it stops and needs a second to catch up. (This doesn't occur enough to be a major problem though.) However, I think all of these symptoms may just be side effects, because my main issue that I need resolved is that my audio and video files skip.
In itunes, my audio files play but they skip at least about every minute or when I just begin to play them or fast forward, which is just enough to drive me crazy. The video is the worst though; some videos play as long as I just press play and not click anything else. Other videos, however, have continuous skipping no matter what and are practically unwatchable. I downloaded the most recent version of iTunes but no change.
All audio and video in Windows Media player, Quicktime, streaming from internet, and even the start up sound when I turn on my computer have the same skipping problem. (I tried a DVD and that only skipped in the main menu and once when I first started playing it.)I know that was a long set up but I wanted to give as much info right of the bat. I'm not extremely tech savvy but I appreciate any help anyone can give.
I recently downloaded the Indigo Prophecy Demo (Game) from fileplanet and when executing the installer a dos window would pop up and disapear real quick. So I ran the setup from command prompt and it ended up saying "Program Too Big To Fit Into Memory". At first I thought this was just a problem with this demo, until I tried to install the Starship Troopers Demo (Game) and it tried to install a third party audio system during install and hat installer did the exact same thing. I noticed that both of them appeared to Installshield brand and had the msi files with them. So I am assuming it's an issue with my computer

this program needs at least 3MB Virtual Memory to run. I've checked the virtual memory settings and they are at 1523 MB, I had an older computer (With XP) that I ran AutoCAD on before with no problem, so I know it's not the program.
that would show me what services on my PC I would be safe in temporarily stopping? I'm having some jitter in the capture of video through VIVO that I'm attributing to too many services running at once and using up so much resource. I can see it well enough in the final DVD production being played on a home DVD player that it is annoying. I can easily suspend the usual programs like anti-virus and such but there are a boatload of other services that run. If anyone knows of a program or a list that would indicate to me what services are mandatory.

Seriously it can be sitting there doing nothing or I will have the video camera program turned on, and for no apparent reason, it will just freeze up, and the only way to get it to work again is to reboot it. I have tried updating the mouse, sound, video drivers - the mouse was acting kinda wierd one day - it just seemed sluggish so I updated the driver for it. The sound driver needed to be updated so I could get rid of the yellow question mark in the hardware profile and that is gone and I thought that fixed it but later that same day, it just froze again. Now there is no set time or anything like that, there are days that it will work perfectly all day and then the next day it will freeze after being on for 20 minutes or less, and there are days that it will work for 4 hours and then freeze

I usually leave my computer on for a day as it has music and files that other users around the house may need. If I start up the computer for the first time in a day and come back a coule hours later the system takes a very long time to get out of the screen saver and continues to act very slowyl. When I press Ctrl+ALT+Del I see that a program called 'mixer.exe' is using 111,000+k of my memory usage. So basically my question is: what is mixer.exe? I think it is some type of sound program but I never use it.

My motherboard is an Abit AI7 and my graphic card is a Gigabyte Radeon 800X. Everytime I exit one of my games after everything went OK with the game, for instance: Far Cry or Lock On, my computer crashes and restarts. When I do a Task Manager or Ctrl Alt Delete, the little green square is full up and this is with no programs running except Windows. I am using Finity Soft Memory Manager and this program says Free Ram 54%, Memory Load Index 44%, and CPU 100%. How do I find out what programs are running other than using Task Manager which shows no programs running?
