I am trying to re-install a game on my computer. Due to a good virus attack, I was forced to reformat my hardrive and re-install Windows XP Pro. When I tried to re-install my son's game (one of those Sesame Street educational games) I get an error message saying that there is insufficient memory to run the application-- The title of the message box is "Can't run 16-bit application"; there is no error number. I have Googled for it, but the only answers I seem to get are for the autoexe.nt file being corrupt; however, my specific problem is not listed in the symptoms.

So when I exit, I have to manually click the popup Window that asks to close the program without saving it or cancel. Is there a way to have Windows do that by default for that particular program (or even for all programs) preferably after some period of time of not making a choice?

A check shows I have 17GB free space on one drive and 150GB free on the other drive and currently using about 270MB of 512MB ram so how can I be short of memory?I then did virus/spy/nasties scans,checked my drives for errors and defraged them.Tried it all again saves ebay ok but not cnet,but last week it saved cnet ok.

It blocks his computer when it occurs. I have to translate the message he receives on the screen from French, so I hope you will still understand. Windows augments (increases?) the size of your pagination file of the virtual memory. During this operation, requests for memory for certain applications can be refused. For more information, consult Help". But we can't consult help. We can't do anything. The computer kind of get gets bocked and has to be rebooted all the time. This can occur any time. When he's playing games it shoots him off back to the Windows main page and sometimes he needs to reboot to get back on. It also occurs when he's on the internet. When he's on the internet, he can't get back on and needs to reboot most of the time.

My machine "freezes" there and I'm in a loop.all I can do is reboot and get to the same place. Is there a way I can get to a command prompt and cancel my directive. The instruction at "0x009a6f9a" referenced memory at "0x00000000" could not be written. The moment I noticed this issue was after an install of my Printer/Fax/scanner by HP, It is a wireless printer so the firewall asked if it should unblock for the install process. My question is should I try to go back to a restore point before that install or is there a workaround for this error.

The system starts again without difficulty.The Windows XP Event Viewer shows no system errors. In the application window it simply shows Application Hang with the Event 1001/1002 combination. I can't seem to find any really useful information on these event codes. The problem has become a daily occurrence.

"Faulting Application fs9.exe, version 9.0.0.30612, Faulting module fsui dll, version 9.0.0.30612, fault address 0x00032ef0. Cannot get anywhere with M/Soft Help. I have a massive amount of added planes,scenery,textures gauges etc and would hate to loose it all and have to reload the original. The files are to big to backup so I hope that there is a way to repair the fault address item.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm troubleshooting a Windows XP (SP2) eMachine (with a fresh OS install on a new hard drive - no original eMachine software remains on the system) and I've never encountered such a persistent problem: certain applications (Fruit Loops, Adobe Acrobat Reader, among others) run fine after installation, but after a reboot they will not run. Their shortcuts, as well as the actual program executables, lose their original icons and are mysteriously changed to the generic window icon (the one Windows will use for a file type is doesn't recognize.) When I try to run these programs, using the desktop shortcut OR the actual executable, I get the error dialog box: "This program is not a valid Win32 application." This happens to several applications, while others (Pro Tools, Acid) remain unaffected and can be executed w/o any problem.

I keep getting the error message that my Windows virtual memory minimum is too low. I have Microsoft Windows 2000 and the following settings: total paging file size 205 MB; minimum 2 MB; Recommended 190 MB; Currently allocated 205 MB; current registry size 21 I'm not the system administrator so I can't change these numbers. I also couldn't find the pagefile.sys that someone suggested looking for. My IT guys don't know what's wrong; they reformatted my computer but I got this error message again. If I'm trying to open a program I get an error message like "application failed to initialize." Yesterday I got a Runtime error message: "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."
I ran Trend antivirus program and Webroot spysweeper, but no problems identified. I keep getting messages from Bigfix that a problem was encountered but by then I can't get Bigfix to open because it's locked up. I ran a dxdiag but it showed no problems either. The problem started when I ran the Uniblue registry sweeper which I thought was free. It identified some old stuff but charged a fee to fix it, so I deleted Uniblue. I went into regedit and removed Uniblue and while I was there I removed several old games from Gamehouse that had been uninstalled over the past year. I swear I didn't touch anything else in the registry! Please keep responses simple and specific as I don't know much about computers.

Surprisingly, my computer didn't lock up yet and I was able to return here to edit my post, but a crash is coming....
When I open certain programs, for example the preferances program for my printer, the window is too small and I can't read everything in there, and it does not have a maximize box to make it larger. how can I fix this? Is this a windows problem or an application problem?

I have 3 displays attached to my WINXP home system. The windows will de-activate randomly. By deactivate, I mean the active bar at the top of the window will dim and the task block at the bottom of the window will dim also. I have to mouse click the window to make it active again. This happens randomly. even if I am keying into an application such as EMAIL or my word processor. This also happened when I had only ONE display attached.I have automatic updates enabled so I believe my software is up to date.

I recently downloaded the Indigo Prophecy Demo (Game) from fileplanet and when executing the installer a dos window would pop up and disapear real quick. So I ran the setup from command prompt and it ended up saying "Program Too Big To Fit Into Memory". At first I thought this was just a problem with this demo, until I tried to install the Starship Troopers Demo (Game) and it tried to install a third party audio system during install and hat installer did the exact same thing. I noticed that both of them appeared to Installshield brand and had the msi files with them. So I am assuming it's an issue with my computer
