hey i recently reformatted my harddrive and reinstalled windows xp pro on my hp zx5000 laptop with the winxp pro OS cd it came with, but now i cant install anything. its really weird i have never had this problem before. i get errors installing anything and ive tried reinstalling windows twice

I want to upgrade my CPU, seems I also need to upgrade my MB. I have been informed I need to do a clean install of WINXP including SP2 and all updates, I would also have to re-install all my programs and software some of which have been upgrades others I am not sure which are data ,As I am not a newbee but also not that computer savvy to risk loosing a lot of what I consider survival programs. Old enough to be smarter, young enough to know better. No major changes made to computer in over 120 days, just a hard drive way over 6 months ago. Can new MB and CPU be installed without such drastic steps as needing to reinstall everything? At present running on Intel 933MHZ, 640 Ram.

BUT it still save my Files. I have my orginial files in my Documents folders and In my Program Files It has all the Programs and files that go with that program? How do I zap everything back on my desktop screen so I don't have to go Download each files as new again??? And I how do i get my Internet Favorite Links and my Notepad with my saved information in it? Yes I did try the "Start" and then program files and none of the programs are there.. BUT yet it is in my Program Hard drive C: Program files. with the Program and all it's content?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI get random application hang up. I can't end the program. The restart command will not respond. I must push the main button until the system shuts down. The system starts again without difficulty.The Windows XP Event Viewer shows no system errors. In the application window it simply shows Application Hang with the Event 1001/1002 combination. I can't seem to find any really useful information on these event codes. The problem has become a daily occurrence.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Flight Sim 2004 and it will start to the first open of TITLE PAGE then get Error screen. I got back to the ERROR LISTS and this is what appears. "Faulting Application fs9.exe, version 9.0.0.30612, Faulting module fsui dll, version 9.0.0.30612, fault address 0x00032ef0. Cannot get anywhere with M/Soft Help. I have a massive amount of added planes,scenery,textures gauges etc and would hate to loose it all and have to reload the original. The files are to big to backup so I hope that there is a way to repair the fault address item.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm troubleshooting a Windows XP (SP2) eMachine (with a fresh OS install on a new hard drive - no original eMachine software remains on the system) and I've never encountered such a persistent problem: certain applications (Fruit Loops, Adobe Acrobat Reader, among others) run fine after installation, but after a reboot they will not run. Their shortcuts, as well as the actual program executables, lose their original icons and are mysteriously changed to the generic window icon (the one Windows will use for a file type is doesn't recognize.) When I try to run these programs, using the desktop shortcut OR the actual executable, I get the error dialog box: "This program is not a valid Win32 application." This happens to several applications, while others (Pro Tools, Acid) remain unaffected and can be executed w/o any problem.

View 19 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows XP on a home computer. My computer keeps crashing. It locks up and I have to pull the plug. If I'm in a forum, lines of type start disappearing. If I'm trying to open a program I get an error message like "application failed to initialize." Yesterday I got a Runtime error message: "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."
I ran Trend antivirus program and Webroot spysweeper, but no problems identified. I keep getting messages from Bigfix that a problem was encountered but by then I can't get Bigfix to open because it's locked up. I ran a dxdiag but it showed no problems either. The problem started when I ran the Uniblue registry sweeper which I thought was free. It identified some old stuff but charged a fee to fix it, so I deleted Uniblue. I went into regedit and removed Uniblue and while I was there I removed several old games from Gamehouse that had been uninstalled over the past year. I swear I didn't touch anything else in the registry! Please keep responses simple and specific as I don't know much about computers.

I recently installed Windows Live One Care on my computer. After installing it, I attempted to open it but had no success. An error message pops up and says "Windows Live One Care has encountered a problem and needs to close." It gives me the option to Send Error Report or to Not Send Error Report. This happens constantly everyime i try to open it. I can not reinstall this program because it is not listed in my Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. Also, I tried using their (Microsoft's) uninstaller and i get this message.

I used my add & remove program to uninstall the program but not all of it got uninstalled. I deleted the folder and then did a search in my registry for anything with refernce to the programs name "Ebay's Blackthorne" and deleted all entries with that name.Every time I reboot windows tries to install something for Blackthorne and I have to keep cancelling it out.

Then the installation process closes completely. Initially, I thought that it was just too old, as it is a Win 3.1 - 16 bit - program. The other piece of software that tries and fails to install at the same time is the Windows Malicious Software Removal tool. Windows update has verified with that my software is genuine (via Windows Genuine Advantage). Currently IE6 is installed on an OEM copy of XP with SP2 and all security patches. Firefox is my default browser. Has anyone experienced this and/or got a solution. p.s. This has been going on for a few weeks. Yesterday I re-installed XP from scratch as part of a system clean up and have been rebuilding everything but the problem of IE7 not installing is still there.

View 9 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how to properly configure a multi-hard drive Windows XP Home PC with XP OS files on the boot hard drive (30 GB in my case) and all other program & data files on two separate partitions of a 160 GB drive, so that whenever my system starts slowing down, I can wipe the Windows OS drive clean & do a clean install of XP on it, without having to reinstall some 50+ and growing applications I have downloaded but don't have on CD or DVD?Someone I met in passing but didn't get the details from said this was how he had his PC set up, and that all you have to do is make a backup of your Registry files on the non-OS HD and just restore/reinstall the registry on the OS HD after clean installing XP on the OS HD. Microsoft tech support personnel I have asked about this say this is not something they support and they deny this is possible.
But, as I have run semi-weekly virus & malware scans using multiple products and deleted all of the suspicious files they find and am still experiencing increasingly slow and erratic system performance, MS told me I should do a clean install, after burning all of my downloaded program files to DVD and backing up all my data files (already being performed nightly to the 160 GB drive data files partition), then reinstall all drivers and programs off CDs & DVDs. I estimate this will take a good 8-10 hours every time I want to reinstall XP, which I consider an excessive drag on my productivity in my real business. Does anyone know whether the concept I outlined above is feasible, and if so, where can one find a succinct guide on how to implement it, including a clear map of what directories other than C:Windows any OS files are in, and recommendations for a good registry editor program?
I disconnected my harddrive from my Dell(DimensionL933r) computer and installed it into my Dell(Optiplex GX1) in an attempt to access the drive(which was not letting me in,Hanging at loading personal settings).I could not get the proper drivers or something so I did not get it installed.When I returned it to the computer it came from, its not coming up as installed. How do I install the hard disk with no windows or recovery console? Or the second question how do I get the hard disk connected to my good computer(Optiplex GX1) so I can fix it? I'd like to install the OS from a Microsoft Windows XP CD but wondered if the Microsoft disk would even install onto the Toshiba and if so, would the laptop function properly? Thanks.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony RS-220 desktop w/ XP home w/ SP2 & all updates since that's unable to auto install generic device drivers. I discovered this when I tried plugging in a couple different USB flash drives & it would just stop at the found new hardware wizard. Running the wizard w/ "install the software automatically" & also enabling "also search windows updates" returns unable to find device driver. The USB flash drive was the only bang in device manager. I uninstalled the usb controllers, rebooted and amazingly the controllers wouldn't auto reinstall. Suspecting the behavior extended to more then just USBs/the chipset I uninstalled some unneeded devices (56k modem & 1394) & they also wouldn't auto reinstall.
I went to the sony website & strangely Sony doesn't list the chipset available for download w/ the other drivers I downloaded the chipset direct from intel & installed it but that didn't work either. I've tried many other things to no avail. Malware scans (spybot, AVG AV, rootkitrevealer)...all came up clean. I've tried a new admin user profile, cCleaner registry cleanup, resetting registry permissions w/ subinACL, setting related windows services to automatic, checkdisk /r. Another thing I thought about doing was uninstalling the PCI controller, but I think I recall that can get ugly. Ultimately the only thing that allowed me to get my usb controllers, usb hubs, modem, 1394, & usb drive working was to "install from a list or specific location" & "include this location in the search" C:WINDOWSinf. Does anybody have any idea how I can restore the functionality of generic drivers auto installing & not having to point to an INF directory? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

So I ran the setup from command prompt and it ended up saying "Program Too Big To Fit Into Memory". At first I thought this was just a problem with this demo, until I tried to install the Starship Troopers Demo (Game) and it tried to install a third party audio system during install and hat installer did the exact same thing. I noticed that both of them appeared to Installshield brand and had the msi files with them. So I am assuming it's an issue with my computer

However, when I used Add/Remove, it gave me the message that "error installing ikernel.exe: (0 x 10000)." I thought I would remove the non-working program manually, so I deleted all the files. I then removed the entry from the registry. I did a search for anymore files with the same name and found a few and deleted those too. Well I tried to reinstall the program again and keep getting a message that there is a previous version in my system and it can't install. Geesh, what more do I have to do? There is no previous program left as far as I know, the only one left is in the Add/Remove list.

I have been able to install a program in safe mode but the program then does not work correctly. I also tried to uninstall a program and that process hangs up also.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFrequently when I right click anything, and occassionally when I select items for the start menu on my windows XP pro machine, the installation process for a program I already have installed wil begin - it must be manually cancelled (some times 2 or three times) before the originally requested response is given. At first it was Norton Anti Virus which attempted to install. More recently, Contribute seems to be the favorite. (Both are already installed).
