My WD Passport doesn't display anything I have stored on it. It still says that there are things stored on the external drive, but when I click on the icon, nothing shows up.I have another WD that is working just fine.Also, the icon for the drive changed from the blue "WD" back to the default.

I have a Western Digital Passport 320GB External Harddrive that is no longer recognized by the computer. It worked two days ago... now nothing. I get a pop up when I plug it in that states: USB Device Not Recognized.I checked Device Manager: Universal Serial Bus Controllers-Unknown Device.It's not a drive letter issue. Windows XP SP3 does not recognize it all.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm struggling to connect my Sony Handycam DCR-SR42 to my Compaq Laptop, Windows XP.It works on other computers without a problem that's why I think it must be some setting in XP. I plug it in when prompted by installation software and the camera goes to :'preparing' Then immediately the windows found new hardware creen pops up. On the other computers that screen didn't come up and the camera would go straight into connecting' mode.I tried switching the 'found new hardware' off by disabling the plug and play in'services' with no luck.When I connect the camera while I'm starting up the laptop, it goes straight into 'connecting' mode but unfortunately that stops as soon as windows is started.I would like windows to detect my camera as a drive and not 'other devices

The laptop will recognize other devices which I plug into it. I have checked for viruses and have also tried restoring to an earlier time but no luck recognizing it

But the same external hard drive work fine in my laptop. I formated my CPU 2 times, but i got the same error of Windows. My CPU has a new motherboard Foxconn M7VMX-K.
The USB ports work fine with my pendrive.
In my computer i can see a new hard drive with a letter (K, whithout data.
The Windows XP Administrator Disk doesn't show nothing about the external hard drive.
My WD passport drive just stop working with 400GB data in it. But the inbuilt virtual CD drive is still working. and for the Storage drive, its showing capacity of zero bytes.

One day my wife was working on a word document, and some of the text disappeared. When she scrolled down, then back up, some of it was back. The text was there, we just couldn't see it because of the display being weird. Dual core 3.4ghz Dell, 2gb RAM. Fairly new machine, XP pro.

Additionally, I have two themes tab. I recently installed desktop architect on my computer, but then uninstalled it, but the second themes tab still remains. I suspect that that tab is from desktop architect, because it uses its same icon. I am not so worried about the second themes tab since it doesn't bother me, but I really wanted to use my effects tab for a theme I am creating.

View 2 Replies View Relatedxp boots past the login screen, but doesn't display any icons, taskbar or start button. On ctrl/alt/del and task manager - new task, I can run some apps. If I try to run explorer.exe I get 'cannot find....path not found...etc'.If I run cmd prompt, I can change to c:windows and dir for explorer - it's there but size is 1008640 bytes. I rename it to .old and run sfc which puts explorer.exe back - size 1004032 bytes. Now new task - explorer.exe loads my desktop icons, taskbar, and everything else. This is fine until I reboot, and then the problem recurs. Each time explorer.exe is replaced with the bigger file.

hasn't been partitioned at any times. HOW i recovery some data from that disk? I try eg. GetDataBack NTFS and i see that there is right data, but how i recover it with out buy expensive license(~100EUR). View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Dell XPS w 2 hard drives. the master is 80gb(NTFS).."C" drive, and the slave is 120gb(FAT32)...."F" drivethe other day, after a re-start, Windows gave me the not so friendly message "Checking file system on F...the volume is dirty...windows is verifying files and folders.......0 percent complete"now, the problem is that it took 30 HOURS! before it completed its checkup! well, so before i panicked too much, i decided to buy an external drive to back up some stuff from the slave drive. after backing up about 20 gb worth of stuff, i re-started, and it did the same thing! tho this time it took "only" 18 HOURS to do its checking! it did say that "windows replaced bad clusters in files"

In addition, it gives it the same name as the mapped network drive that already exists there. When I change the name of the external drive there, it then changes the name of the mapped network drive, so again they both have the same name, although the drive letters are different. Any ideas how to make the external drive appear where it belongs in My Computer, under Hard Disk drives?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI turned the PC off to reboot when I though I was going into safe mode and went into regular mode instead. Now, it thinks one of my external drives is the C drive. On boot, I am getting a message that it cannot recognize find the system 32 windows config file (I'm paraphrasing).
I used the repair utility to get to the C prompt (which is pointed at the external drive) and checked the drive letters. I don't think the PC bios knows the hard drive is there.
I tried going into setup and reverting to factory installed configuration and that didn't change anything. I could not get it to recognize the hard drive.
I installed an a 2.5 Toshiba notebook drive in a external enclosure and I can't get XP to recognize it. My sis has one of those Wally-Mart Acer mini laptops; NO CD-ROM drive in it (PS: way-bad idea! Never buy a computer w/o a dvd/cd drive in it!). I want to use my (HP Pavilion zv6000 w/XP) laptop as that external drive to re-load her original CD, which (of course) has all the drives on it! At start-up, the Acer (also w/XP) has an option to start-up from an ext. drive, so it has that capability (obviously, w/o a drive of its own), but how to make my HP "look" like an external drive (via USB-to-USB hookup) is the problem!

If you get an external harddrive is it better to move the pagefile to the new hard drive which is what I was going to do change the drive for the virtual memory, then I got thinking, in case you didn't use the external drive all the time hooked up for whatever reason they you wouldn't have a pagefile on the old one does that make sense? I thought maybe it would be better just to move a bunch of pics and music to the extenal drive and leave the virtual memory (pagefile) where it is on the old drive, or would it make any difference??

the drive is plug and play so i don't have any software for it nor it is listed anywhere in the WD website.

When I put DVD's into the drive and then place a movie on the disc the computer will not reconize the DVD disc and will not burn it.Am I missing a driver for XP? This is done every time I start windows.Even though the checkdisk result shows no errors it wants do do it every time on boot up.I did a manual checkdisk ( full check) and it seemed to clear it up for a couple of days but now it had returned to the same situation.The disk is fairly new so I do not think there are any problems with it and

View 10 Replies View RelatedI purchased a us modular flash drive from tiger direct. I'm running xp home edition. I'm on cable and a friend of mine is on dial up, but he's also using windows xp home. His computer is only about 2 yrs old. Anyway, he ask me if I'd copy the free programs ad-aware and spybot, since it takes him so long to download anything, which I did. I gave him the drive, but when he tried to access it, he said it gave him an I/O error. His computer wouldn't read it. I brought it home and plugged it in and it works fine on my machine. On his he said it'd show up as a drive (H:), but when he tried to open it, it gave the error. You don't have to install any drivers (at least you didn't on mine. It came with no cd. Will this drive only work on my machine or what.

Since i had a lot of info on the hard drive i tryed to find people who could take the info off the hard drive for me. I then had this great idea of just putting my hard drive into a "Hard Drive Enclosure Kit". Well, i did that and it worked great. But theres one problem, I can't seem to get into the Owner folder of the hard drive, for evey time i do, it brings up.
