XP reinstall won't validate so that I can get updates. It is a legal copy and I had no problem activating windows. However when I tried to validate it for updates it keeps telling me there is an unknown error and validation could not be completed.

View 17 Replies View RelatedMy computer won't reboot. It started when I tried to update windows to sp2 and it had an error so it couldn't finish the update so it uninstalled whatever it installed. I rebooted and it goes into a loop, first the manufacture logo, the windows xp logo and it goes right back to the manufacture logo and starts that process again. I tried to go into safe mode and even the last best configuration to start and it still goes into this loop. What should I do? I don't want to reformat if I don't have too.

I was also getting alot of Buffer Overflow Blocked warnings from mcafee before i uninstalled and used SpyBot Search And Destroy which has cleaned a couple trojans off of my comp that mcafee did not find.? Also everytime i open a program or even I.E. A seperate window opens up thats all text, And if i close that window the whole program closes.

I get this error message just randomly whenever I'm on the computer or not: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v149/spiralout987/error-msg.jpg. I don't know what it is, what it's for, what's wrong with it, etc. Anyone have any idea where I can get more information as to what this error means? And what program is asking for the file that can't be found? Please help! I don't want to reformat my computer to get rid of this message.

I have a dell laptop inspiron8600 with Windows XP and SP2. I recently get the same blue screen error every time i start my computer.IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL STOP: 0*0000000A(0*F89181C0, 0*00000002, 0*00000001, 0*804D9BBA) I ran the dell dianostic test for blue screen errors but everything was fine. View 6 Replies View Relateddaughter has an "emachine" (I know, but it's too late) with XP. Son opened a "cheats" from Google and now they can't open internet explorer at all. Just gives us the "sorry, we'll send error report." They can right click on the "explorer" icon and open by "run as" but they can't download anything, or open new pages (assuming the other pages are stored). They play a game called Ragnarok(sp??) and that may have something to do with it, not sure. Anyway, I've checked internet connections and she is enabled, I've run Winsock and that doesn't help, even loaded Foxfire browser to bypass, but it won't open either, just gives me the same message. View 6 Replies View RelatedI reformatted a laptop and install XP for someone as they were having a lot of problems with it and I thought this would be the best way to go as alot of program stopped working. Anyway, after installing it, I still found that I couldn't installed the games he claimed were working before something went wrong and I determined it was the graphics card. I was even more sure when I noticed how poor the refresh rate was (scrolling up/down on web pages and playing games).
So I went to device manager to find out what the card was and install the latest drivers (he doesn't have the drivers for sound/video). But display adapters are not shown in device manager and I went through display -> settings -> advanced and it didn't tell me what card or driver was in there, all the information wasn't there. So any idea's as to how I can work out what card is in this laptop?
I have a WD 250gb external HD, i have since switched to a mac and still want to use this HD.however there are 3 files on this drive that seem to be microsoft updates, not sure how they ended up on this drive....i did not place them there....id imagine it was thru one of the many microsoft auto updates i want to try and delete these files, but i get an error saying that i either dont have authority to delete these files , or they are currently in use. they are two folders that are 0 bytes....and have long random numeric and alpha titles such as e7e4e1d6bbb6349...etc.

Got a fatal error message and everything locked up. I ended up shutting down and when I turned the computer on again it said no operating system found. Where did I screw up?
This is a six year old Sony, XP, AMD 1.0Ghz. Everything was working at the time I tried the System Recovery EXCEPT I was constantly getting low space messages for drive C. I have no files on this drive and very little software. It is a 20G hard drive partioned into two 10G partitions.
