Unable To Repair - Blue Screen Error

Dec 22, 2004

I have an XP Pro computer with SP1a. The computer started resetting itself after a blue STOP screen that flashed on for a fraction of a second shortly after the XP Professional startup screen. Since I couldn't persuade it to go into safe mode (or any mode), I tried a repair from installation CD. After about 20 minutes in the Installing Drivers section of the install it gives a STOP error saying that the CDR4_XP.SYS driver may be corrupt, and the error Page Fault in Nonpaged Area. It then does a memory dump and restarts with a Chkdsk and resumes installing drivers again. After a further 20 minutes the whole saga repeats itself. I have gone into the recovery console and get a warning message System Registry does not appear to have an active ControlSet key. I can then put in the Admin password and get into the console.

With installation disk in CD drive, asks choose between
1. c:windows
2. f:winnt (which is CD drive)
for either, asked to "type the administrator password"
Not sure which I should have chosen, 1 or 2
For 1, hitting Enter does nothing
For 2, hitting Enter, get error message, "the password is not valid"
I have administrator rights; there is no password. When I had logon box, I left password blank and hit Enter to logon.

Computer Keeps On Shutting Down: Unable To Repair OS?

Oct 23, 2008

I'm running Windows XP SP3. For the last 4 days the computer kept randomly shutting down for no apparent reason, often times when I was in the middle of typing documents (causing me to lose everything I wrote!). I used my Windows installation disc to try and repair Windows. But it kept shutting down in the middle of the repair. Figuring the file system might be messed up, I reformatted the harddrive and then tried doing a reinstallion of Windows. Again, this damn thing keeps shutting down in the middle of my re-installation!

Enable To Repair Drives: Get Logs On Restart After Repair?

Problems started was when i updated my Zone Alarm firewall, windows works absolutely fine no problems what so ever, then next time i reboot it does the same, this time problems are non-stop until about 10% then fine from there on in, then when it finishes repairing the drive it gets stuck at repairing unreadable security descriptions date stream.

It also said whilst recovering orphaned files insufficient disk space to recover lost files. It stopped for a while then carried on. After scan disk it restarted and wouldn't load windows, just got stuck on windows loading screen forever, eventually 15+ minutes i pressed reset as there was no disk activity.

Installing SP3: "internal Error", But Can't Repair Product Id

Sep 1, 2010

I have XP with service pack 2 already installed. I tried installing sp3, following all the guidelines about being an administrator, closing all programs, disabling virus scanners and such, but consistently get this "internal error" as soon as the installation starts. The event viewer doesn't say anything useful, but according to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949384/ this is a problem with a funky product id.

The solution says I should go to the System Properties to get the product id. Well an abstraction of that product id is 69831-xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxx. Then it tells me to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMWPAKey-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, and work with the fields in there. It predicts that there might be more than one key conforming to that format, and there is. It says I should pick the key that has the same ProductID as found in the System Properties, but they both have the same id and it isn't what I found in System Properties, it's 55285-xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxx.I have one product id in System Properties, and another that appears in two keys in the registry.

But, now i have the same problem with the new hard drive. Unable To View Error Log

Mar 5, 2005

In a previous thread, XP was scanning on boot. I worked the problem to death, converted all partitions to NTFS, and we finally gave up. We formated 120G C: and re-partitioned...went from approx. three 40G parts to one 50G (C:) and remainder approx 65G (E:). This install was done yesterday, and this morning, on first boot, it froze at a black screen (desktop is black), with a solid drive action light. Re-boots do not evoke a scandisk, but give a good boot to the desktop. I've tried to view the error log, but it won't show any of those tools...."not found", sys info, etc.

Unable To Use DVD Being Accessed Error?

Bit of an odd one, that has totally thrown me. When I put some (not all, it's about 50/50 of good to bad) DVDs (Movies, all data DVDs seem fine so far) in my machine, whatever software I try to view the disk with will freeze, this could be a viewer such as PowerDVD or Explorer itself. To begin with I just put it down to duff disks (I go to Thailand alot and pick up cheap DVDs there) but I now have discovered the same also sometimes happens with retail bought DVD from here in the UK.

Unable To Locate Component .dll Error

Oct 5, 2009

I'm having some problems with my XP pro Dell computer. Recently my brother downloaded some songs off of Limewire ( I know it's really bad). I have AVG free installed and it detected multiple viruses as mshypiw.dll I prompted to remove them, and it warned my system may become unstable or crash, I still clicked to remove them and after a re-boot my computer opened up to an error.winlogon.exe - Unable To Locate Component. This application failed to start because mshypiw.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. After I click OK it gives me the same error over and over again for different .exe files. Ex: lsass.exe, Services.exe.It Then opens the logon to windows screen and I can login as normal. Then it gives me many more of the same errors, which if I enter through all of them, I can eventually get to the desktop. Then, if I try to run any program I get more of this same error, depending on which program I try to open, some will open and some will not.

I have googled for this error for hours on end and can't find an answer. I did find this KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319114. Which seams to relate to my problem but the file framedyn.dll is not in my dllcache folder and I cannot get to my System setteing because of this error.

Unable To Install Due To System32/hal.dll Error

Jul 11, 2007

When I started up my IBM, I got a message about "missing file" - then all went black!
I put in the installation disc, hoping to be able to push the "repair" button, but all I got was the following message: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt <Windows root>/system32/hal.dll. Please re-install a copy of this file." OK, but how? Where would I get such a copy, is it on the Inst Disc, and PARTICULARLY - how can I install this file (when I can't get the system to open or can't even reinstall the OS from the Installation disc) IMPORTANT!! If you can help me, please remember that I am a relative newbie (ok, I've learnt a bit over the last few years, but even so) and I UNDERSTAND NOTHING ABOUT "BIOS" and things like that, so - if possible a sort of a "one step after the other"
