I have installed on my system which has windows 2000 installed on it. It gives me a strange error UNABLE TO INITIALIZE MEMORY STREAM and gets stuck up. I have tried unstalling and restalling both of them ,but it isnt working.

I am constantly connected to the internet via the university's network, run AVG 7.1 free, spybot s&d and its tea timer, and ad-aware se personal, all with updated definitions. I run an ewido online scan once a week, but don't keep it installed since it causes my computer to boot much more slowly. I also have the most current windows updates, except WMPlayer 10, and .Net 2.0 because it seems unnecessary. Well, back to the problem. I was talking to my friend on AIM, when I got the message "The connection to the service was lost" and had options to try and reconnect, etc. I tried to load IE, but it gave me some error along the lines on "Unable to load (initialize?) IE due to insufficient resources." I have a gig of ram, 3.0 GHZ P4, 120 Gig of hdd space, about 80 gig free, and run CCleaner about twice a week.
Anyway, I've been clean according to those 3 programs I use frequently, but after I got kicked off AIM and IE wouldnt load, my favorites were empty, programs wouldnt load, i couldnt shut down, etc. So I hit the reset button. When rebooted, the BIOS screen showed, and stayed for along time which it never does. Then, it kind of froze. As illogical as this seems, I just hit the switch on the back of the powersupply and waited about 2 minutes. All of my fans are clear of dust and in working operation (GPU, CPU, and PSU). I havent installed or removed any hardware / software recently, etc. So when I restarted, I rebooted into "safe mode with network support" and ran Spybot, Adaware, AVG7.1 and Ewido online scan. None reported anything outstanding, but AVG notes that read errors occured for the MBR and boot sector. Ewido found "spyware.chitika" which it removed. I rebooted and am currently in "safe mode with networking" just to be safe, but my question is: what could have caused this? and how can I fix my MBR? Thanks for any suggestions. I have a final paper that I need to finish before friday!
when I start my computer. The first error message I get is Application error Inicio.exc failed to initialize properly (Ox000142). The second one is APVXDWIN.exe failed to start because pavall.dll was not found Re-installing the application may fix this proble. I am running Windows XP

After doing a repair with the XP disc I have ended with with more problems than before. I was going to make first priority SP1/2 as my system is now warning me. When I try I get this message. For some reason, an error message pops up on startup: "The application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba. The problem caused the Windows Defender service to stop. The contents of the file will not be affected. Do you want to copy the file anyway? In the past we used a Linux box and didn't receive such a message, but this new box is FAT32 based which not only has a 4GB filesize limit but we see we'll lose NTFS metadata along the way. View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using a P4 1.5 MHz system with 512 MB RAM, 64 MB Gforce MX card, new 80 GB hard disk with 4 partitions each 20 GB. My OS is, Windows XP with SP2 installed. I am getting error that my virtual memory is low(page file size). When I change the settings using the System icon in the control panel, still it reports the page file size as 0 MB only. I re-booted after changing, tried System Managed Size option. But still the page file size remains as 0 only.....
When I press the set button after the new settings it shows the changes for the drive and then asks to reboot. After re-booting it says "Either no page file or virtual memory too low" I tried re-booting in safe mode too. Still the change is not effected.

A check shows I have 17GB free space on one drive and 150GB free on the other drive and currently using about 270MB of 512MB ram so how can I be short of memory?I then did virus/spy/nasties scans,checked my drives for errors and defraged them.Tried it all again saves ebay ok but not cnet,but last week it saved cnet ok.

I know, I know...it seems as if everywhere you look, someone has a different opinion on this.I'm running an older system Dell Dimension 4550 Pentium 4 XP Home SP2 1GB Ram...2.4Ghz...533 MHz Front Side Bus...I recently installed a 400 GB HD to act as my slave drive. I added a 4GB partition, dedicated to the paging file. At this point, I have my Master Drive's (C) paging file set to 2MB-50MB; the Slave Drive (D) has no paging file and the partition on the Slave (G) is set to 1536MB-3800MB.
The biggest memory hog is Firefox, which gets to around 200,000k if I let it. Spyware Terminator runs at about 50,000k, as does Thunderbird.Then, I have several programs that run in the 30,000k range (FeedDemon, Replay AV, etc).The rest (around 20 programs are fairly low users).What I'm trying to accomplish is, getting that little bit of extra performance so that when I'm running a program like Winamp and enjoying music, I don't get stutters in the performance when I open a browser or execute a function.
Im currently in the process of bringing my PC back from the brink. St present I am unable to boot because a system32/hal.dll is not present. Before this I was unable to boot without seeing a blue screen showing a lack of memory. I have been having problems for a few weeks now. At first just a little slow down and the occassional crash, but it has recently escalated to large scale slow down and fatal errors causing the pc to reboot. From the performances menu in Task Manager I can see large large CPU usage peaks with the processor running at 100% consistantly with no programs running. Simil;arly, on startup the PF usage is settled around 200MB but gradually increases over a matter of minutes until it is 2 or 3 GB+. This is usually about when the system declares a fatal error and reboots itself.
The only process that appears to be taking processor power at these points is svchost, that will usually run between 0-1%. I have been aprehensive to end this though as I know it to be a core process. I also had similar problems with lsass.exe. I researched and figured it could be the Welchia Worm or MSBLAST.D virus but have found no trace with any anti virus software. I tried the suggested treatments regardless with no success. A couple of days ago the problems got to the point where no prgrams would open and the system rebooted every few minutes. I managed to rectify this by reinstalling windows, but it appears to have been short lived. Now, after a fatal error the PC has been unable to reboot.
I have 2 pieces of memory that I know is good which I am trying to upgrade a
Compaq Presario 700 but everytime I put these memory chips in it gives me a
PCI.SYS error and to reinstall windows, removing them is fine and widows
starts ok.
one stick is a second-hand one which is 128MB and the other is brand new which is 256MB, and are both designed for the 700 model notebook.
I've formatted my hard drive and reloaded windows xp when i installed my game it tells me my pc don't have enough video memory but that same game use to work before can anyone tell me what is missing?

View 14 Replies View RelatedWhen I attempt to play or stream music from a web site, I no longer have the options of "open, save, cancel", I only have the options of "save" or "cancel." The dialog box indicates that "m3u" or m3ulist" files are an unknown type.. This wasn't always the case, at one point things worked just fine. How do I get my computer to recognize and "open" these files without having to "save" them and play them from the saved file? Once saved, they will play in Windows Media Player.

I'm continually getting 'low virtual memory' messages which either result in th explorer page shutting down or with applicatons being unable to run (including games). I've tried adjusting the settings under 'system properties' but when I re-boot and re-check this it always reverts to zero. I'm following the correct procss in hitting 'apply', etc but this problem continues to appear. There is also a 'paging' error where apparently there's a problem with the paging file configuration when i start the computer.

I have noticed that if I keep my system running at night, which is when I generally download stuff from rapidshare and some torrents, it shows some kind of low virtual memory message when I have a look at it in the morning. Why is it happening? The applications that keep running throughout night are firefox, uTorrent, McAfee Security Center, and my DSL connection tool.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI booted up my computer and left it running for a while I noticed I got a Low virtual memory warning. So I opened up task manger and saw the my PF usage was extremely high (around 1.5 GB) and I didn't have anything open or running. Then I restarted it and had the same problem later. After a while some times it will render the computer useless as I can't get anything to run as its so slow. Even as I'm typing this message my PF usage is slowly increasing. I also notice that my "Handles" are slowly increasing too. All that I've done to the computer recently is install a Dynex Wireless G USB adapter. I dont think it's the cause of the problem because when I take the USB adpater out the computer and leave it running.
