View 9 RepliesSo I started up my computer a few days ago to find it telling me I had a missing or corrupt file in windowssystem32configsystem. Now when I bought my computer I was sold the XP home license, and it just came with my computer, and have never needed the setup CD.So I went to the place I bought it, told them what happened they burned me a copy.So I boot off the cd, and enter the setup repair, it asks me for a password, I have never had one, default past with enter and continue on to try and fix it.Now this is where it gets interesting, I restarted to see if I had fixed the problem, and when it restarted my computer seemed to begin to load windows, when my computer suffered a LSASS.exe error, and restarts. So it eventually allows me to go back to the setup repair, but this time when it asks for a password, it doesn't allow me to default past by hitting enter. It tells me I have entered an incorrect admin password and after 3 tries, it says I have failed 3 times and then restarts. So I Googled the problem, and found it might have something to do with Sysrep(which im not familiar with) I have some important files on the computer I need rescued.
Basically what I am wondering is if there is a way to bypass this new password problem, or any way I could extract certain files from my hard drive without repairing windows.
I need help to uninstall Microsoft Net Framework 1.1 hotfix, (KB886904) please. I have WXP Pro SP2. When I try to uninstall the hotfix from add/rem. I get "The upgrade patch cannot be installed because program to be upgraded may be missing" . I have installed 'Windows install cleanup', and when I open it the hotfix is not listed. Prior to the hotfix being installed on my computer by Windows update, I had Microsoft Net Framework 1.1 listed twice in add/rem, but when I tried to uninstall it,it came up that it was not installed so it could not be uninstalled. I got rid of it with a 3rd party uninstaller. I have also Net Framework 2.0 installed by Windows Update. Windows update also tried to reinstall Net Framework 1.1 but failed. So I would appreciate if someone could tell me how to get rid of the hotfix.

I told them that it sounds like their computer has been hijacked and that I would recommend that they format their computer and start from fresh.I want to format their computer and install a newer windows OS (perhaps windows xp) and install a couple of spyware/antivirus programs.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been installing each and every update from microsoft. I now get the Windows Update to install a security patch for Framework.net. It fails to install every time and comes back again and again to install. I did a very quick search on this problem and it seems there are problems concerning how Framework was loaded and what versions youo have.First of all, as far as I know, I have only loaded a new Framework version because a program I downloaded informed me I need this new version. I do not keep track of how I loaded Framework, what versions or anything. Looking as some of these proposed solutions require knowing a lot more about how you loaded them and what versions you have.

1. c:windows
2. f:winnt (which is CD drive)
for either, asked to "type the administrator password"
Not sure which I should have chosen, 1 or 2
For 1, hitting Enter does nothing
For 2, hitting Enter, get error message, "the password is not valid"
I have administrator rights; there is no password. When I had logon box, I left password blank and hit Enter to logon.
I've been trying to do a XP Home Edition repair install for a very long time now. I've restarted it a lot of times but in the "Installing Windows" section when it says setup will approximately complete in 25 mintues it starts "copying files", I get this "copy error" "Setup cannot copy the file licwmi.dl_.Ensure that the disk labeled 'Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 CD' is in the drive section below, or provide the location where the file can be found."
View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows XP SP3. For the last 4 days the computer kept randomly shutting down for no apparent reason, often times when I was in the middle of typing documents (causing me to lose everything I wrote!). I used my Windows installation disc to try and repair Windows. But it kept shutting down in the middle of the repair. Figuring the file system might be messed up, I reformatted the harddrive and then tried doing a reinstallion of Windows. Again, this damn thing keeps shutting down in the middle of my re-installation!
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an XP Pro computer with SP1a. The computer started resetting itself after a blue STOP screen that flashed on for a fraction of a second shortly after the XP Professional startup screen. Since I couldn't persuade it to go into safe mode (or any mode), I tried a repair from installation CD. After about 20 minutes in the Installing Drivers section of the install it gives a STOP error saying that the CDR4_XP.SYS driver may be corrupt, and the error Page Fault in Nonpaged Area. It then does a memory dump and restarts with a Chkdsk and resumes installing drivers again. After a further 20 minutes the whole saga repeats itself. I have gone into the recovery console and get a warning message System Registry does not appear to have an active ControlSet key. I can then put in the Admin password and get into the console.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI don't know where to put this topic. But alright so basically yesterday I started having this problem. When I go to anything that uses Java such as Geocities my computer starts making a chugging noise and the browser (IE or Firefox) crashes. It brings up one of those senseless error messages about something failing. I'd look now but it'd close this screen. I tried uninstalling Java but when I try uninstalling the JS2E Runtime Enviroment 5.0 Update 5 it won't let me uninstall either. It makes the same noise and freezes up the window. What in the hell do I do? I've never had a problem quite like this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a new Hard Drive from Western Digital. It's an Internal 500Gb, and its been running so-so. It's sort of loud, mainly as it sort of vibrates the case of the computer (I have one panel off as the cord im using wont fit). Aside from that ive had no problems. What I'm worried about though, are these STOP errors that occasionally pop up Quote: "MEMORY MANAGEMENT - STOP 0x0000001A (0x00041284, 0x0E586001, 0x000015BC, 0xC0883000)" I know that ...0014a has something to do with memory or RAM, and that 0x00041284 is "0x41284A PTE or the working set list is corrupted." according to MSDN.

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair. The deal is I dont have the cd. IF someone could tell me how to get an xp cd (without buying) that'd be great.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI rebooted computer and got an error about a missing or corrupt file so windows would not even start to load.I got the bright idea that I could do a repair install of Windows. After the repair install copied the files necessary, it restarted the computer and I got the same "file missing or corrupt" error. So I found the file that was corrupt online and copied it to the HDD.Now my problem is that the Windows repair install is giving me an error after it loads the install and comes up with the install screen.

I have just installed some anti virus software and during installation I got messages saying my registry had been damaged and i should log onto such-and-such site to download repair software and run it on my system. I am suspicious that if I do this I am exposing myself to total destruction. One of the messages has just popped up again and the site it directs me to is FixReg32.com.
View 2 Replies View RelatedProblems started was when i updated my Zone Alarm firewall, windows works absolutely fine no problems what so ever, then next time i reboot it does the same, this time problems are non-stop until about 10% then fine from there on in, then when it finishes repairing the drive it gets stuck at repairing unreadable security descriptions date stream.
It also said whilst recovering orphaned files insufficient disk space to recover lost files. It stopped for a while then carried on. After scan disk it restarted and wouldn't load windows, just got stuck on windows loading screen forever, eventually 15+ minutes i pressed reset as there was no disk activity.
The family computer is playing up and to the best of my knowledge the computer in question just simply suddenly stopped working as it should. I am unable to get the 'default' welcome screen upon start up and am getting the logon box where you type in a username and passworld. I know how to get rid of this, user accounts>enable welcome screen - but it will not solve the problem. This is just the start of the problems. I get a whole host of errors which popup one after another.

Well microsoft does it again!! after spendig 2 hours cleaning up spyware, adware and viruses I needed to do a repair on a XP Home computer that was completely updated from Microfts Update Website. View 3 Replies View RelatedI've checked a few other threads relating to WinXP suddenly asking for password at start, and that .NET 1.1 SP1 is required to fix this. On Friday, I had a crash and had to reformat HD and reinstall Windows, then sent Auto Update to get everything needed. According to Update History, SP1 downloaded and installed with no problems. However when I look in Add/Remove Programs I only see .NET 1.1 and a Hotfix for it. Should I see something that says SP1 if it's really on my system?
