I downloaded password recovery, burned it to a disc but then this disc will not open in another computer when I am trying to open it from the bios boot screen.My windows log in is stuck on the administrator log in and my password is not working.
View 8 Repliesi just got my desktop back after a year of sitting (no, i cant afford to buy a new one) and now i cant remember the password to log on. the OS is 2000 NT Pro which was installed JUST before the power supply went out-which is why its been sitting. the friend who installed it chagned my pass and also doesnt remember what it was/is. anyway, from my laptop, i made all the suggested boot discs to recover the password/s BUT it wont boot from anywhere but the standard mode. even when i get into safe mode, the log on box still pops up and asks for a pass. i am NOT compuer inclined at all ( i have to call tech support when i check my email, lol) so please make your replies in very simple, non-technical language. i assume this is the admin pass b/c even using "administrator" and "msg2000" (these are what my friend uses when she re-installs OS)doesnt get me in. is there a way to get into my computer w/o wiping it clean and re-installing the OS?

View 14 Replies View Relatedwhen i try to repair it, it says i need to enter a password. i've never in my life send it a password for the adminitor (sorry for the spelling). how would i get around the password of the repair? or is there a program to recovery passwords for window's admin? sidenote, i can't start up windows without getting the blue screen of death. but i do in fact have another hard drive with windows.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was trying to repair a corrupt windowssystem32configsystem file using the recovery console - that did not work. Now, when I use the recovery console I am asked for an administrator password, which of course I do not know. A further complication is that the machine is configured with RAID (striped disks using Intel Matrix), so booting from any kind of recovery disk requires further drivers to be loaded. The ERD password reset tool I am using (not sure of the name but it is Linux based, and free) seems to allow support for RAID, but I can not get it to work (NTFS signature missing). I have tried 'fetching' the drivers from a floppy, but that does not seem to help. So where can I go from here? Are there any other password recovery tools that definitely support Intel Matrix Raid?

But for some reason my administrator password is saying its invalid. Is there any way to change it in normal mode. Or is the admin password different in dos than in normal mode?
View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst off, i have a 60gb ide drive for my windows installation (3 other drives for storage), and i got a 150gb Raptor X, which is sata. I cloned the 60gb boot drive onto the raptor, but it didnt boot, and said the HAL was corrupt. My guess would be that the hardware abstraction layer got all defunct when it saw the new sata drive, but was expecting an ide? After all that, i decided to run a chkdsk on the ide drive, and clone it again, to see if it booted. I used the recovery console on a windows xp pro disc, but alas, i couldnt chkdsk because i forgot my admin password. Stupid me.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI try to open any folder from the desktop, or explorer(right click start button), or my documents, they don't open, but program shortcuts seem to work. Once inside a program I can navigate to and open folders I couldn't do previousy on desktop. It seems just an error when on the desktop itself.
My wallpaper vanishes and the active desktop recovery screen appears telling me to restore the desktop after somekind of windows error.
I rent my laptop out for wireless cctv use. I have set up two user accounts,my own(administrator) and another which I call video. My account is protected via a password so the renters can only use video. When they open the video account I dont want them having internet access but cant seem to delete explorer without deleting it from the whole computer. Basically, I want to have net access when logged in as administrator but dont want anyone else having net access when the laptop is out on rental. Can i password protect explorer? Or delete it from a specific user account? I have windows XP on a 05 HP Presario. I'm also a mac user most of the time hence the complete lack of any PC knowledge.

The problem I have is I don't have a disk for it. The Windows xp Media center edition is on the D drive (HP recovery) Normally I seen it on the bootup menu ( hit a key to recover) but it is no longer there. I have successfully networked the two with a crossover cable but I thought I'd reboot the old one to clear it from all the stuff I had on it. When I start the PC up with the recovery disk in either the D or E drive it doesn't get recognized and just goes strait to the user page. Any ideas on how I can get round this? I can enter the set up stage by pressing Del but i'm a bit green on this!

I can sign in and see the welcome page (it says "Welcome and my name") but when I try to go to another page in the site (for example "my account") it won't let me go. Also my internet homepage is Yahoo, when I refresh or open to the homepage Yahoo never loads ... I have to click "GO" to get the page to load. Are these two problems related somehow? Anyone?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is running XP SP2. There are two accounts created, one for myself and one for my partner. Both accounts have administrator privileges. Yesterday my partner was unable to login, as XP rejected every attempt with a "have you forgotten your password" balloon. I logged-in OK on my account, changed the password (but used the same value as before) on her account, then logged-out. This time she could log in OK. Same problem happened again this morning!! Once corrected as above, then she can login in/out without problem.
It is not the obvious things of finger-trouble, Caps Lock ON by mistake etc etc - checked all those. First time it occurred was shortly after a violent thunderstorm, so I wondered if electrical interference had caused a corruption somewhere, but everything else seems OK and there was not another storm this morning.
I recently brought an old laptop from work to my home to use as a kitchen computer. I already have an existing workgroup and wanted to change the computer from my office domain to my home workgroup. I went into control panel and took it off the domain and put it on my workgroup. I went to start it this morning and I am unable to log in. XP asks me for a password and I try to enter my old office password and it doesn't log in. I tried logging in as Administrator w/ no password, as "kitchen" with no password, and without any username or password at all and none of them let me log in. How do I get back into my computer?!?!?!?

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy friend gave me a Dell Latitude Laptop, Windows XP O/S to look at. It is a couple years old and was given to him by his old company which went out of business. He has not used it until recently and was unable to get into it due to a network password screen. I accessed it with ''admin'' as a username and no password. I cannot change the "users" information or disable the password because I have no "administrator" rights and don't kow the password for the administrator. I tried the default blank password trick. Once in, I noticed network software installed and I cannot access the internet with my ethernet cable. Basically, I am just trying to get it where he can use it around the house. Is there a way to disable the company installed networks, or make them go away completely? I have no XP O/S on disk, so I am trying to avoid a complete format. If I can just get the machine back to the basic XP O/S it would be good to go.

Getting this error when trying to install Service Pack 4 - The file c:windowssystem32ftp.exe is open or in use by another application. The taskmanager does not show any FTP specifically running. So I downloaded SP4 to my hard drive so I wouldn't have to get on the internet, and rebooted in safe mode. Then ran SP4 update from my hard drive but I still got the same FTP error. How do I find this FTP process and stop it?

View 7 Replies View RelatedSuddenly my documents folder opens when I log on to my machine. I checked all Startup folders for a shortcut to My Documents but found none. I followed the instructions on kb899865 but everything was as it should have been. I then checked for the trojan �spyware.dlder with MalwareBytes Anti Malware and found nothing. Spyware Blaster also found nothing. About the same time I found I was unable to open help and support, when I tried to correct that I continue to get the message that pchdt_w3.cab can not be found. It is not on C or the Windows install disk or SP2 disk. I am really stuck. While it is possible to close the folder after booting it is a pain and I would like to get things operating as they should be. I am running XP Pro. w/sp2.
