View 5 Repliesi have an hp 532w, It came with windows xp home edition on it. recently I used a Dell version of Windows XP Pro and installed it over my hp home edition. I lost my sound and when I look at my device manager i see a little yellow flag by my multi media controller. If I try to Upgrade the driver I get the blue screen of death. I tried to reistall my origanial operating system, from my 8 recovery disks it won't let me. I trie booting from it and it won't let me. It sez I'm missing (windowsroot) system32hal.dll.

View 12 Replies View RelatedHave a HP a340n,80 GIGS. new computer. it crashed, froze, and I did a reformat, then installed Windows XP Home Edition again, well, I plugged a set of headphones into the front of my computer, and after doing so, i lost all my sounds. it thinks that it is still there, but there is no sound. I tried installing and updating the drivers again, Realtek AC97, and still no sound drivers., when I looked into the system info, it shows yellow highlights on all the kernel applications listed. how do I get my sound working again?

I installed an AOpen DVD RW in my Dell Dimension 3000 last night, and I also installed the included Nero 7 software. I tried to watch a DVD that was done in Dolby surround and I had no audio. Nero Prompted me that I needed to install an upgrade which I proceeded to do. I managed to download and install those and the Codec Detective doesn't give me that message any more. It just lists all of the installed codecs.

Its a brand new computer system setup for my little brother, and he can't even use it He's all bummed out, and if someone could help it'd be GREAT! The computer is a Gateway - and I looked through BIOS, and didn't see anything about disabling/enabling the onboard sound.
View 14 Replies View RelatedTry removing the card and see if you have the sound back. Se if you have sound with just the video card installed without its drivers. If same issue on Xp, Vista, the most probabily the card is not supported on the computer.Try a clean reinstallation after installing the video card.

View 7 Replies View RelatedFor some reason Windows keeps telling me that ALL drivers i install aren't "Windows Logo verified" and asks me if i wanna procceed or not, while this might seem normal i know that its not, becouse drivers that i used to install with no problems now this happens. Also i have LOTS ( and i really mean LOTS ) of "Found new hardware what action do you want to take" dialogs during an hardware instalation when this also didn't used to happen before. For example i just installed my X-Fi Sound Card, before it would install with no prompts what so ever, now when i'm installing it i had about 15 prompts telling me that it found new hardware and i had to choose "Find drivers automaticly", and after i did that i would get the "Driver is not Windows Logo Verified" prompt. It all seems to work fine eitherway if i just choose "continue" with the prompts, however this is becoming quite annoying since it happens for every driver i install.

Running Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2. Computer is a Dell Dimension 4600. The computer has a Samsung CDRW/DVD SM352F drive with SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio. I believe all this is a stock setup. When I put a DVD in the drive, it plays the video but there is no sound. I checked in Windows and it said the CD/DVD device is working correctly and the SoundMax is working correctly, too. The device works OK with data CDs and plays audio CDs OK as well. In Settings in Media Center for the DVD it says 2 speaker stereo is enabled with Vocal Options set to Both. I tried the DVD on another similarly configured computer and it didn't work there, either.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble installing a sound card into my wifes pc I'm not sure what make the card is the chip on the pcb is CMI87/PCI-6ch-LX.
When I install it into the pci slot and boot the computer the video fails no display on the screen, so I removed the card and the screen worked ok.
I did disable the onboard sound card befor I tried to install this card.
I dont know why, but ever since I've had XP, I've been unable to change the login sound. I saved a wav file in the same location as the default ones. I've applied the sound. But when I login, the default sound plays. I go back to the control panel it and says my sound should be set.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a volume control icon at my system tray...then, all of the sudden, the icon shows a "mute" status...i tried to unmute it by double-clicking the icon to access the volume control...nothing happened...i went to Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices...also, nothing happened...i thought that this applet (mmsys.cpl) in C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32 was corrupted, so i tried to run it from other folder containing that file but still, nothing happened...at this point, i don't think that all 3 files were corrupted...the only way to control the volume , and to mute/unmute is by using the Creative Surround Mixer (i have an Audigy sound card),which work flawlessly...The wierd part is, even i unmute from here, the volume icon at the system tray still shown as 'mute'..but i can still hear all the sounds and songs...Then, I've discovered that in AudioHQ (also from Creative software), under the View>Multimedia Propertis, I CAN actually access the 'Sound and Audio Devices' applet...this will open the 'Audio' tab...other tabs like 'Sound', 'Voice' and 'Hardware' is also accessible from here, BUT, when opening the 'Volume' tab, it hangs...i could't access this applet any longer...the only way to close it is to end the process (rundll32.exe) in the task manager.That's why i conclude that the volume tab in the applet is problematic.

I had to do a clean reinstall of my operating system on xp pro.Now I've right clicked on my printer on xp home entered the printers name as printer 1. When I go to my other computer and run the wizard I get a box come up saying printer and underneath a larger box.What have I got to put in the printer box my printer is a Lexmark X1100 Series.In the lower box this is where I have had printer names appearing in the past although mine was'ent there I am now getting 'Microsoft windows network' coming up.When i click on the next button I get 'you need to specify a valid printer name.

I have watched the system tray area several times hoping to see what is causing the sound but haven't seen a screen message. I was trying to reinstall windows xp home editon because my computer was infected with a virus that could not be deleted even after trying norotn and mcafee. The CD-Rom drives were deleted from the virus,so I had to transfer the xp cd files from one computer to the infected computer through a direct transfer cable During the xp installation, the computer hung and showed a black screen when installing the devices. Now everytime I start the computer up it goes straght into setup and shows a black screen.The CD-Rom drives do not work pressing delete during start-up will not access the BIOS.It seems I cannot flash the BIOS.How do I cancel the xp setup?

I had used this Forum a couple of months ago and doing the repair install was the recommended solution. I have a copy of the michaelstevenstech.com directions so I know what to do. Unfortunately, when I try to launch the "to setup Windows XP, press enter" step, the program comes back with an error message saying the hard drive is not found.
