View 1 Replies View RelatedI am installing a new network with all XP pro Sp2 PCs's. The issue is these PC's were all built prior to me setting up the network and no one installed the administrator accounts on any of them. The server box in Advanced server 2003 and I set up there accounts in active directory. Made the part of the server workgroup. Set up there share folders gave them permissions to the shares and I could not copy there files to the server. I get the message no rights or permissions contact the Administrator. I copied some test files to an
USB memory stick downloaded the to the server for testing purposes. We can see them from the desktop but we can't edit or save them. In the folder that the files were in I made sure that they were'nt read only and it still say's we don't have permissions to these files?
I am having a problem with my printer after installing network magic. Everytime I send a document from the main pc to the printer connected directly to it, I get a stop screen and a reboot. When it comes back I do the Microsoft error report and it says there is a problem with a driver.

View 11 Replies View RelatedFor years I have been able to print from networked computers in my home ( two desktops running XP pro hardwired, one laptop XP wireless and one desktop xp wireless) to my main computer thru a router. The main computer ran XP home edition for years until my hard drive crashed and left me without an operating system ( The PC is an HP pavillion and had the recovery disc partitioned on the hard drive). I installed a new hard drive and was able to install XP pro from my boys computer that was received from a home school company that they use. The company had sent me a OEM version of XP pro with all their sofware on it that were copied on blank cd's. When I initially set my main computer up again I was able to print from all my computers. I then grew tired of always logging on with a password that was setup by the home school company.
Now I cannot print from any computer other than the main computer where the printer is connected. My first question would be: Can I delete the users on my main computer that were setup by the Home school company and start my own user? Next: Do I need a password? I would rather not have one. I only need one user account on the main computer. If I can delete the users and passwords, should I move any or all documents out of the user I want to delete? Will any of this solve my problem of not printing from my networked printers?
I keep getting an error message that the network is unable allocate an ip address to my computer ive had this problem before in australia and some tech support guy fixed it for me but i cant remember what it was that he did

I have a 3-computer home workgroup that connects to the internet via a Netgear router. I have a Lexmark X74-75 printer/scanner/copier that is connect to one of those computers, and that computer is connected directly to the router. The other two computers print to the Lexmark via sharing. This setup has been working without issue for about 2 years, but in the past week, everything seems to have gone to hell, including the ability to print. This description may be a little long, but I have to be everything I am about to relate is somehow connected.I will do my best to also advise what I have installed, removed, etc., during that period.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a home network with six computers, connected to a DHCP Router and ADSL Modem. I also have a IOmega Network drive connected to the router.Well, I had to reinstall Windows XP on one of the computers, taking the chance to install SP3 directly after installation. So far so good. But when I was going to connect to the Network drive, I could not find ANY! computers when checking for them. I can connect to the router on its setup IP adress, and also the drive setup. But I did not see the volume. I also have Internet connection.
I tried to ping the drive, and it worked. I tried to ping the other computers, but it did not work.
Then I tried to search for the volume, and it worked. I was able to map the volume as a drive, but I still cant see it on the net. Searching for the other computers was negative.
1. When I try to run the Network Setup Wizard, I get an error at the very end that Windows was unable to complete the setup
2. When I select Windows Firewall from the Control Panel, I says that it cannot start the service
3. When I select Network Connections>Local Area Connection>Properties>Advanced (tab) it says that it cannot display some of the properties of the connection because WMI information may be corrupted
4. When I try to configure my Intel network adapter, it says that it "failed to load a network component"
5. Also, this is not related to networking but the Windows Updater has failed to install every update for quite a while now.
I am using a laptop and sometimes I shut the lid and put it into hibernate mode. When I open the lid again and the computer boots back into windows, the wireless internet doesn't work. Windows says my computer is connected to the wifi network but when i open firefox or internet explorer it just doesn't work. I am using windows xp pro.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have had numerous problems with my PC - including disappearing icons, connectivity problems (I have cable internet and all seems to be in order but I can't connect a lot). I also have settings on my PC that somehow change themselves. So, I've read through the forums and decided to try the Hijack this solution and was hoping someone could help. I also cannot use Internet Explorer - I get a window that mentions internet settings. Before that window came up I saw something to the effect of c:windowssystem 32 error.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a new pc freshly installed with XP SP3. I used it as a server, I shared the two harddrives and mapped them as drive F and G on the network. The sharing and mapping is successfull, however, after a few minutes of being started (or after the pc has been restarted), the sahred folders and harddrives were self-disconnected for unknown reasons. My colleage timed it, and the sharing lasts only 15 minutes after restart then it is disonnected from the network. When i say disconnected - i mean i can't be seen from other PC's connected to the network, i need to restart the pc (again and again) in order for the harddrive and folder sharing is restored. I can say it is disconnected because the sharing icon (a hand with a disk drive on the palm) disappears and other PC's cannot access it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an Intel Network card in a fairly modern computer running Windows XP SP1. Unitil I uninstalled a VPN client I have had no trouble with it. However, after the uninstall, Win XP displays a yellow icon with an exclamation mark for the network card in the device manager and the info says "Code 31 Could not load the drivers for this device".I have tried uninstalling the network adapter (in order to be able to re-install it) but Win XP tells me that it "Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be required to boot up the computer".I have also tried upgrading the drivers for the adapter but the problem prevails. My guess is that the registry somewhere links my network card with a virtual driver that the VPN client used.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Windows XP professional on a new hard drive on Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. The OS installed fine but now I cannot get onto internet. I have ATT/Yahoo DSL. My laptop has integrated wireless adapter.
When I look under device manager -> network adapters, I only see the following listed:
1) 1394 Net Adapter
2) Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)
3) Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI)
I don't believe any of the above are for internet.
On my other laptop (Dell Latitude D610), under network adapters, I do see:
1) Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller
2) Cisco Systems SSL VPN Adapter
3) Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
Using Latitude D610 laptop, I am able to connect to the internet wireless. What do I need to do to my Inspiron 6000 to enable it to connect to the internet wireless? Under control panel -> network connections, I only see 1394 connection and Bluetooth Network Connection. No LAN 2, LAN 3, Wireless connection, etc.
Whenever i install drivers on my pc, (i've tried graphics card drivers and wireless network card drivers) my pc stops working. When i installed the graphics card drivers, i tried testing the graphics on a game (counter-strike) but as soon as i got into the game, the pc flashes a blue screen, and reboots. I cant see what the blue screen says because it flashes on and off again to quick for me to read it. I decided to uninstall the graphics card drivers, and the game worked perfectly, but the graphics were REALLY bad. So i thought i might need to update some other drivers, so i tried to install my wireless network card, but when i finished installing the drivers when i had to restart my computer, it flashed the BSOD.... AGAIN! I need help urgently as im going to a LAN gaming comp called "rezidue" and its on in 2 weeks, i need my pc fixed by then! All these problems started when i upgraded my CPU. Everything was running smooth, and i was happily playing along on my computer, when i was asked what my FPS was in counter-strike, and i was all "mine are 65!" and there like "wow that sucks, mines 130" so i set out on my epic quest to get better FPS then everyone else and MAN THAT WAS A MISTAKE. I upgraded from my celeron 2.8ghz cpu to a P4 3.0ghz HT cpu, and thats when things started messing up on me. My entire system is as follows (incase it can help someone help me) P4 3.0ghz HT CPU, Microstar P4 motherboard, 128mb Nvidia Geforce mx4000 AGP x8 graphics card, 256MB ddr ram (recently brought new 1GB ddr ram off ebay just for rezidue! should be here soon!) TP-LINK 54mbps wireless network card) And last but not least
