I have got a computer running windows xp. If I plug in a usb mouse my computer hangs when i shut down and i have to hit the power switch. I have turned off the power management for the usb root hub but this makes no difference.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a HP computer with Windows software and starting yesterday it started to hang up and stall. We have to manually turn the computer off and back on and it takes several minutes before it comes to the main screen. I did a system restore, turned off the screensaver, ran a virus check with Norton 2004, and it is still occuring and has hung up 5 times today. We do not have internet access to this computer, so I do not think there is a virus on it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI do not know what went wrong.Recently my system always hang for no reason.I can't move my mouse and i tried changing another mouse but still didn't work.I run virus and spyware scan with all the available programs and fix registry and system errors with numerous registry cleaning tools.What shall i do to eliminate this problem?I am running on windows XP Pro serv.Pk 2.
View 8 Replies View RelatedBeen using Registaryfix v5.5 on my computer to check for problems, but the last time i used it i found that my computer seemed to hang when it loaded up windows. i used safe mode and restored my reg files using registary fix to their original state. it's working ok now but... should i trust this software, or is it because i don't know what im doing with it i should be carefull? I've posted my hijack this file also just in case i have any virus problems.

However when the computer has been left idle for short periods of say 1 hour or more, the the system hangs. All programs and internet/LAN access lock up which requires a full hard boot to enable restart and program access.

View 6 Replies View Relatedwell, this problem started a little while ago, Ive got a 2.93ghz P4, and 1GB memory, so i know my computer is (plenty) fast enough.when i click on the button in the start menu "Turn Off Computer", my PC shows the hourglass, and i cant click on anything, this will go on for about a minute or 2, once it took 5 minutes. then the small box with shutdown options comes up finally, and then after the light blue screen gets to "Shutting Down...". it takes maybe a bit longer than expected but im not to sure about that.

my keyboard and mouse cut out and yes they are both plugged in. they are stock so i believe they are p/s 2. uhm a the moment my keyboard is working but my mouse is not. sometimes my keyboard will also cut out but by restarting i can get it working again.

During random times, my mouse click freezes, although my mouse can move and I can use the key board at this time, I cannot click or focus anything. To fix the problem I can control alt delete and exit the Task Manager, this fixes the problem.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently put together a new computer for my girlfriend, but didn't have the time to stay during the entire Windows installation. Apparently, while XP was installing (my girlfriend had gone out) her mother attempted to follow the prompts ( ); during this she mis-typed the serial key, and didn't know what to do... according to her, the installation froze. She couldn't tab to get back, and it didn't recognize the mouse. She restarted the computer, and apparently was able to get windows to install. My girlfriend called me later to tell me that "the screen is all wrong, the colors don't look right." Upon asking her what the problem was, she replied "the screen." 'Describe it to me' "it's the monitor". 'No, what's wrong with it?' "THE SCREEN DOESN"T LOOK RIGHT!!!". Heh. You can see what i'm dealing with. I had her go into desktop settings to crank the resolution up to at least 1024x768, and high colors; after she hits apply, nothing happens.
I told her to install the drivers for the graphics card. She's tried twice; each time it goes through the driver installation, and tells her to restart. Upon restarting, it goes to the Windows loading screen, and then (as best I can tell from what she's telling me) the monitor looses signal from the PC. Screen goes black, monitor light goes from green to orange. Computer is still on; it doesn't restart. She can only get back in via safe mode...........
I am not sure what the problem is. I have restarted the computer at least 10 times in the last 2 days. I never restart my computer. Its a newer gatway, well just over a year old. IT freezes up all the time. When you run your mouse over something it doesnt tell you what it is.

The keyboard died, so I bought a new cheapie that connects via USB. And I still have the wireless mouse. Since the change, my computer has slowed horribly, with keyboard and mouse commands, in particular, taking too long to register. I have removed the Logitech Itouch keyboard software (not the Mouseware),and installed the new keyboard software. I have defragged, scanned for viruses, and used Ad-Aware and Spy Sweeper to see if I had some clogging spyware.

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy first problem is that I can't shutdown my computer. I mean I can shut down the operating system, but the fan still runs. This seems to have come up within the last several weeks after I unplugged it once by accident. It wouldn't restart so I had to hit the reset button. I'd never previously used one, but thats what people suggested in other places when it wouldn't restart, just hit the reset button. So I did. Now I'm stuck with it not turning off. My second problem may be a direct result of the first. The last few days my keyboard and sometimes my mouse stop working.
My computer will just freeze out of nowhere, never while in a game, but sometimes while just doing menial tasks in windows, or just idling. By Freezes, I mean, I have one image on my monitor that's it. The mouse doesn't respond, the keyboard doesn't, nothing brings it out of it. It's ridiculous, and I'm tired of rebooting in the middle of something important.I recently found that the SM Bus Controller Drivers aren't installed, and I'm installing those, would that have anything to do with it?

I came home today to turn it on, and the only thing that happens is the fans both work, the cd drive lights come on, the power button light comes on, and the orange cpu light comes on. After a few seconds the cd lights flash again, and they repeat this process. The screen, keyboard, and mouse do not work. The monitor stays black the whole time. It has windows xp on it. I got it at Best buy, but it is out of warranty. It seems as if the computer continually restarts?
