I am not sure what the problem is. I have restarted the computer at least 10 times in the last 2 days. I never restart my computer. Its a newer gatway, well just over a year old. IT freezes up all the time. When you run your mouse over something it doesnt tell you what it is.
I have searched the net for this problem but can't find an answer. I hope someone here has heard of this problem. I use windows media player but it does this with any player that i use In XP. I will open an avi in windows media player and if I move my mouse from centre screen toward the bottom the video will move upwards within WMP. Same for moving the mouse to the right the video will move to the left and so on. I have no idea what the problem is. I don't think re-installing WMP would do anything since it does it in Show Tunes as well.
I now have another computer to use. This computer is almost new and was given to me by my mother. My problem is everything looks large and the computer moves really slow. I have no idea of the problem and I would also like to remove SUPERAntiSpyware from the cpu and have no idea how.
the cursor moves across the screen by itself and I notice if I pick the mouse up then lightly dump it onto the mouse pad the cursor will begin moving across the screen again. This may not have anything to do with the cursor but I can not sign out of this newsgroup.
Have noticed an odd little occurrence of late.I am sitting reading something on the net, my hands are not touching the mouse or the keyboard and suddenly the cursor/arrow starts moving horizontally all by itself? I have remote access turned off but wonder if this indicates a possible remote user incursion?
i just installed windows XP (with sp1, or maybe not even that) i havnt hooked the computer up to the net yet, but after i installed my Nvidia drivers that came with the mother board, the windows Boot screen freezes and only works on safe mode till i uninstall those drivers. could this be a problem because i havnt downloaded the service packs from the net yet?
I have a problem that I just can't figure out. I 'll be on the internet, and when I click on a link(not every time), the page that I'm on just freezes. My mouse will indicate that it's busy, but it just stays like that. I first thought it was Spyware Terminator, so I uninstalled it. But to no avail. It did it again. Now remember, it's not every time. I keep a copy of my important files on an external drive, so reinstalling windows is nothing more that a pain in the behind. Which is what I did. I have an oem vesion of Windows MCE, which I've never had any problems with before. So here I am, thinking that I've taking care of the problem, when you guessed it, it did it again. And this is with barely anything installed, because I uninstall almost everything that MCE comes with. And this is where I'm at. I just can't figure out what's causing this to happen. I 've been coming to TSG almost every day for a very long time, because I really learn a lot and enjoy reading the many posts, and the members who respond to them. I didn't include a copy of Hijack this because it did it on a fresh install.
It all started when a friend gave me a 4 port USB Hub come clock and cup warmer!!! which I plugged into my pc. I plugged my printer into it, when I switched off the printer the system crashed to a BSOD. On reboot, as I remember, it came up with a splash screen I have never seen before (ASUS I think) then a BIOS set up page! I left the settings as they were and clicked ok, I think it was set to 700mhz. Since then it has been going to BSOD every time I switch off, or when I play Tiger Woods 2006 and go to save or move on to the next level of the game. It recently rebooted with the BIOS set up again which I changed to 933mhz hoping it was just that causing the problem!! Also when it reboots I get the voice telling me it has gone thru POST and booting from operating system. I have recorded stop errors from the last two crashes if it helps. STOP 0X0000008E (0XC0000005, 0X BAE2CEED, 0XB75229DC, 0X00000000) VS DATANT.SYS ADDRESS BAE2CEED BASE AT BAE05000 DATESTAMP 44ED374A STOP 0X00000050 (0XADBCB8C2, 0X00000001, 0XBF9E059B, 0X00000000) ati2dvag.dll ADDRESS BF9E059B BASE AT BF9D4000 DATESTAMP 43fbdea6 It has just crashed again on reboot, Windows started OK then when I clicked on the Avast anti virus update notice it went off....
I need your help. My EpoX motherboard sent me a new replacement MoBo. I've assembled and returned everything and including my old BIOS setting. PC bootup win-xp ok BUT it will not run continuously because hard drive LED stop. All program just stop functioning after few minute of running. Cold boot has no effect except to Reset and always did checking files on all drives. I deleted one Trojan Horse virus on popup warning BUT couldn't completely scan the whole hard drive because AV program stop also. I also tried in Safe Mode to clean-up AV, Spyware & Malware BUT not successful because it stop also.
recently when having Internet Explorer open in the background, clicking on the desktop forces my cursor to change to that horrible hour glass for about 20-30 seconds, then I get an error message saying "DrWatson postmortem debugger has encountered a problem and must close". I then proceed to click send error report. It sends then my computer freezes up and thats that. I have to manually restart it. This has only happened recently and is becoming quite tedious. And also it does the same thing if I click dont send... I know that DrWatson has something to do with saving files or recording the script errors before the computer crashes (i think :s ) but thats where it gets too complicated for me. It crashed on me only a few hours ago
Can anyone advise me please? XP crashes and restarts the PC from the beginning as soon as it reaches the point where the Windows XP desktop would normally appear. Trying to boot in Safe Mode provokes the same behaviour at the same point in the boot sequence ... howver, swapping the HDD for a drive with Windows 98SE loaded onto it allows me to boot up and run OK under that OS, so I'm fairly sure that it's an XP fault (virus maybe). AVG7 didn't bark before this happened, and ZoneAlarm didn't report anything either.
I know I should know this, but for the life of me, can't remember LOL; when you drag a dialog box or item that's on your desktop, there's an outline of the box that moves before you move the box. How do you turn that off?
I have a client who is experiencing a strange issue that I thought I'd see if anyone else has faced. About 30% of the time when he boots his PC, his desktop is different. The icons are moved, and a different size. But if he then reboots, they'll return to their normal positions. This has happened many times. It seems like a weird profile thing, but I'm stumped.
I have a very annoying problem which seemingly happens totaly at random. The cursor which you use to type (not the mouse cursor) constantly moves left, as if the left arrow key is being held down (although the movement of the cursor is slightly slower). This occurs at random, it sometimes goes a week without happening, other times it will happen three times in a day. Having said this it always seems to happen after something is clicked on the takbar (eg a firefox window).I don't think it has anything to do with the keyboard because it continues to do it even when the keyboard is disconnected and reconnected. I have to restart my PC for it to stop, as doing anything while the cursor is constantly moving left is impossible, even shutting the thing down is tricky.I have no idea where to begin to solve this, any help will be massively appreciated,
Lately, my XP has been freezing when I try to save pictures off the web. I never had this problem before. I tried using different folders in ''My Pictures'' and desktop but the result is the same. When I use Task Manager to view the performance, CPU usage shoots up to 100% while trying to save and doesn't come down. I should say that I have been using IE 7.0 beta for almost 3 months but it never gave me a problem before. I do not detect any other problems with the computer and am able to surf the net same as before. I just can't save the pictures.
my curser frozen and now i can't login on user screen? I shut computer down and restarted it but still won't move!! what do I do? My computer is windowsxp home edition/microsoft?
Ok I used to have ubuntu and xp partitioned to seperate drives on a single harddrive. I no longer wanted ubuntu so I ran my xp cd, deleted the ubuntu partition, and was left with half my drive(74gb) as unallocated space. So now i needed to figure out how to get that unallocated space back onto the xp partition. I didn't realize that you couldn't add unallocated space back to the xp partition with the xp boot cd. But i now know how to fix that problem. (Partition magic or whatever its called) Now when I turn on my computer without booting from the xp cd, it goes to the setup screen and says "The setup is being restarted". Then the screen goes completely black except for my mouse. Nothing else happens so I have to restart. When I boot with the CD I get the windows setup screen. It gives me 3 options: Set up Windows XP now Repair Windows XP installation using Recovery Console and Exit setup without installing Windows XP I tried figuring out the recovery console just by using the help command, but no luck there. I did find out that my xp partition still is fine and has everything that it did before. But i just can't get it to start up.
With a lot of help I've been able to fix the Control Panel>Display problem I had earlier. But now I have another problem. I started a new thread because it is a different problem, and because it may be a Viewsonic monitor or ATI screen driver problem rather than a Windows-XP problem. When I have the screen resolution set to 1024*768 the desktop fits neatly into the monitor. When I tried it at 1280*720 the desktop fits neatly into the monitor, but the graphics and text look as though they are stretched vertically - ie too tall for their width. When I tried it at 1280*768 the proportions looked right, but the desktop seems to have been moved up and to the left. That is, there is about a 2cm black band to the right of the display, between the right edge of the monitor and the right edge of the display; and there is about a 1cm black band below the desktop. When I tried it at 1280*800, just for completeness, the whole desktop seems to overlap the limits of the monitor. That is, the icons on the left are half hidden 'behind' the monitor, and the task bar at the bottom is barely in sight at the bottom edge of the monitor.I don't remember having this problem in the past, but it's been quite a while.
My two computer and two ps/2 mouse all not working at all. This is very strange. I've never had problem on this.I have two ps/2 mouse and put in two computer. They are suddenly not working at all. Ths is very very strange.

I have got a computer running windows xp. If I plug in a usb mouse my computer hangs when i shut down and i have to hit the power switch. I have turned off the power management for the usb root hub but this makes no difference.
I got a new computer and I have been having problems with my mouse. I have a simple optical wired mouse. During random times, my mouse click freezes, although my mouse can move and I can use the key board at this time, I cannot click or focus anything. To fix the problem I can control alt delete and exit the Task Manager, this fixes the problem.
All of a sudden without making any changes my computer won't wake up when I move the mouse. I restored the computer to before it happened but it didn't help. Anybody got any ideas as to what the problem might be.
I recently put together a new computer for my girlfriend, but didn't have the time to stay during the entire Windows installation. Apparently, while XP was installing (my girlfriend had gone out) her mother attempted to follow the prompts ( ); during this she mis-typed the serial key, and didn't know what to do... according to her, the installation froze. She couldn't tab to get back, and it didn't recognize the mouse. She restarted the computer, and apparently was able to get windows to install. My girlfriend called me later to tell me that "the screen is all wrong, the colors don't look right." Upon asking her what the problem was, she replied "the screen." 'Describe it to me' "it's the monitor". 'No, what's wrong with it?' "THE SCREEN DOESN"T LOOK RIGHT!!!". Heh. You can see what i'm dealing with. I had her go into desktop settings to crank the resolution up to at least 1024x768, and high colors; after she hits apply, nothing happens.
I told her to install the drivers for the graphics card. She's tried twice; each time it goes through the driver installation, and tells her to restart. Upon restarting, it goes to the Windows loading screen, and then (as best I can tell from what she's telling me) the monitor looses signal from the PC. Screen goes black, monitor light goes from green to orange. Computer is still on; it doesn't restart. She can only get back in via safe mode...........
i have a question that has risen out of pure laziness: does anyone know how in the world i can set up my PC to power up using any press of the keyboard or movement of the mouse?i know it's possible, but i haven't been able to figure it out. i'd rather use my keyboard/mouse as opposed to bending down and pressing the power button every time.
I have a fairly new computer running Win XP. On it, I had an older Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse with appropriate software. The keyboard died, so I bought a new cheapie that connects via USB. And I still have the wireless mouse. Since the change, my computer has slowed horribly, with keyboard and mouse commands, in particular, taking too long to register. I have removed the Logitech Itouch keyboard software (not the Mouseware),and installed the new keyboard software. I have defragged, scanned for viruses, and used Ad-Aware and Spy Sweeper to see if I had some clogging spyware.
I have transffered my Hard Disk from MSI mother board to INTEL mother board.
All drivers are installed from INTEL mother board CD. But mouse is not working, only its pointer is visile in the middle of screen (pointer can be moved by using keyboard's Num pad
I have an issue with waking my computer up. I should be able to wake it up from standby with a mouse click. It says so in BIOS, and it works in Vista. It does not work, however, in XP.
My computer freezes up. No keyboard, mouse, ect. The mouse arrow disappears. I have to "power off" the computer to get things working. Now here is the strange thing, if i move the mouse around "quickly" the computer will work OK. This is on a new install of Windows XP + sp1. If I am moving the mouse slowing as in solitare the system will lock up in about 10 mn
