I installed a USB 2.0 4-port hub. It said installation successul, but there is a slow ding-dong or dinging sound. What does this sound mean, and what can I do to make it stop? I have Windows XP.

I have an nLited XP 64bit CD. I don't have any other CDs to copy over to, but I have a 4GB USB flash drive. I am having a hard time finding stores that either sell floppy drives or external floppy drives. But I need one in order to install my RAID drivers so that my SATA drive can be detected for installing XP on. I have the following setup (Stuff you need to know):Asus Vintage AH-1 barebones motherboard (AMD Socket 939)SATA 80GB harddrive (on RAID using the ULi utility)IDE 80GB harddrive, set to cable select, because this is technically my backup slave driver (too slow to run software from) (Yes, this system is outdated, but I need to make due with what I have until I can build myself the system I want) I need to be able to install my RAID drivers so that I can have my SATA drive detected. I have ideas, but I'm not one to be able to do things about them.

Then i have a boot error from Windows NOT from the BIOS, i have tried getting into the Repair Console an using FIXMBR and FIXBOOT, unsuccesfully; removed every suspecious setting on my BIOS..... The installator copies small parts, copy 1% or 2% and stops for a while (I think it is decompressing the files, but that slow!?). After that i get a booting error (I dont remember what does it says; i will post it later, when my 4th attemp ends).

After an unsuccesfull repair-instalation of xp, i re-installed xp onto the secondary partition of my hard drive (d:, the original instalation being on c. I was intending to format the c: drive, then instal a copy of xp-pro i have onto it
finally moving the files i want to keep back from the d: drive onto the c: drive.The problem i'm now having is on formatting i recieve the error message 'system partition is not allowed to be formatted', as it is the primary partition. Can i go about formatting this drive in partitions and proceed with the re-install without having to remove the files i have on the d: drive? How might i go about this?
I started up the computer, watched the BIOS detect the RAM, hard drive, etc, and then was greeted by a blank screen instead of the Windows boot screen. It proceeded though, and after a few seconds flashed to another black screen, this time displaying the cursor. I'm guessing this is the logon screen, but nothing displays but the cursor. (Note that the video card and monitor are both fine...I tried swapping them out just in case.)

For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I downloaded the installer from the MS Download center (it didn't appear in Windows Update). It looks like the program is failing to respond but doesn't say so. View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is a Windows XP sp3 domain connected PC with one specific user, which all of a sudden takes 2.5mins to log in to the domain, Where it used to take just about 20 seconds. Other users on the same PC is all OK 20sec login This is not the usual where it hangs at "applying computer settings" or "personal settings" it's after those two has passed that it just hangs for a couple of minutes.
All i get is the mouse pointer (not even hourglass) and the desktop wallpaper for about 2-3 minutes. When it finally logs in everything is as quick as you would expect that spec of PC to be (1,6ghz Sempron, 1gb RAM, 40gb IDE-100 HDD)
computer now takes half an hour to an hour to reboot. in doing so, it tells me that it does not do the startup and services. it is so slow it is unbelievable. sometimes even being so slow that the words we type take a few seconds to show up on the screen. after working for a time it will invariably hang. or it will shut itself down. in either case we have to reboot, it takes that half an hour to an hour again

Then, when it actually starts installing whatever game I try, Winamp plays at half speed, pops and hiccups, and becomes unlistenable. Firefox takes between 10 and 30 seconds to load an instance, and typing is slow, and shows up on screen in bursts. Furthermore, even my System sounds (right clicking, for example) become slow and broken.

She's probably a lil' too dense to realize if she download or got some kind of virus using it. And, of course, she didn't bother telling me right away so when I went to start up the laptop one day, it was going extremely slow.It took about 10 minutes for the laptop to boot to the windows login screen. Any mouse movement whether on the mousepad or when I hook up my USB mouse takes about 1 minute to register any movement. I haven't even been able to get to the main desktop screen. (I'm trying as I type.. but, judging by the length of how long it took the other stuff, I could be in for a long wait.) Even when I typed in the password it took about 5 minutes for it to seemingly type out.. but the "dots" cut off so I have no idea if it actually will go through or not or if I will get the "incorrect password" error message.
