I started loading my games onto it. Insert the CD, and Winamp would hiccup. Then, when it actually starts installing whatever game I try, Winamp plays at half speed, pops and hiccups, and becomes unlistenable. Firefox takes between 10 and 30 seconds to load an instance, and typing is slow, and shows up on screen in bursts. Furthermore, even my System sounds (right clicking, for example) become slow and broken.
View 4 Repliesi recently began to experience slowing typing in all apps on my laptop the typing speeds are fine at the log in screen (when i type my password).i already checked msconfig for PCMService.exe, it's not there so that shouldn't be the problem.my system performance is how it has always been, i tried to play a large movie and it worked fine.as i type about 5% of the time typing speeds are fine. sometimes if i type a long phrase and wait it will quickly fill in what i have typed after stalling for a second.another forum post i read suggested deleting the keyboard driver and let it install again but i haven't tried that yet.

This happened after i have enabled my HyperThreading in my system through some hacking of boot.ini and bios setup,Installed some patches with MS automatic update. I then checked System Properties and it said I was only using 251 MHz of 1400 MHz. I then installed the software called Speed Switch XP, and it got it boosted up to 599 MHz when it's on max performance. I'm now stuck there.

For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I am having a problem with my network connection. I have a computer on our corporate network that is attached to a gigabit backbone. When I try browse my network neighborhood, the refresh rate is extremely low. It takes 30 seconds just to expand the workgroup. Internet access is fine, I can surf the net with no problems at all.
I am going to try a new ethernet cable and check the drivers for my built in nic on my MOBO. Does anyone have anything else that they think I should check?

However, since I have installed Windows XP, the internet access has been very very slow. I am on a internet connection through my school network that is normally extremely fast. A webpage takes 45 seconds to a minute to load up, and I am downloading at a speed of about 2-5 kb/sec. The network connection is fine, as I have plugged my desktop into the internet and it works normally. I have also reinstalled windows several times, yet I cannot solve this issue.

It looks like the program is failing to respond but doesn't say so. Once loaded browsing is normal, althought every time a separate IE window is opened the initial slow response applies followed by normal browsing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is a Windows XP sp3 domain connected PC with one specific user, which all of a sudden takes 2.5mins to log in to the domain, Where it used to take just about 20 seconds. Other users on the same PC is all OK 20sec login This is not the usual where it hangs at "applying computer settings" or "personal settings" it's after those two has passed that it just hangs for a couple of minutes.
All i get is the mouse pointer (not even hourglass) and the desktop wallpaper for about 2-3 minutes. When it finally logs in everything is as quick as you would expect that spec of PC to be (1,6ghz Sempron, 1gb RAM, 40gb IDE-100 HDD)
computer now takes half an hour to an hour to reboot. in doing so, it tells me that it does not do the startup and services. it is so slow it is unbelievable. sometimes even being so slow that the words we type take a few seconds to show up on the screen. after working for a time it will invariably hang. or it will shut itself down. in either case we have to reboot, it takes that half an hour to an hour again

View 6 Replies View RelatedAnyhow, on my second laptop, my roommate borrowed it and of course has no idea what she could've possibly ever done. She's probably a lil' too dense to realize if she download or got some kind of virus using it. And, of course, she didn't bother telling me right away so when I went to start up the laptop one day, it was going extremely slow.It took about 10 minutes for the laptop to boot to the windows login screen. Any mouse movement whether on the mousepad or when I hook up my USB mouse takes about 1 minute to register any movement. I haven't even been able to get to the main desktop screen. (I'm trying as I type.. but, judging by the length of how long it took the other stuff, I could be in for a long wait.) Even when I typed in the password it took about 5 minutes for it to seemingly type out.. but the "dots" cut off so I have no idea if it actually will go through or not or if I will get the "incorrect password" error message.

I realized, when I start up, it takes FOREVER. It also shows this screen I have never seen before. Its completely black, and has a line of grey rectangles from side to side. and slowly loads across. When it is finally finished 10-15 minutes it will slowly start up in regular fashion
