Slow Startup - Access Any Program
Jul 9, 2005How can I improve the startup speed pf Windows as it takes forever and a day to start and to access any programmes. I have run defragmenter but report tells me defragmenting not required.

Feb 8, 2006I started loading my games onto it. Insert the CD, and Winamp would hiccup. Then, when it actually starts installing whatever game I try, Winamp plays at half speed, pops and hiccups, and becomes unlistenable. Firefox takes between 10 and 30 seconds to load an instance, and typing is slow, and shows up on screen in bursts. Furthermore, even my System sounds (right clicking, for example) become slow and broken.

I have cleaned out the startup files, defraged, used several registry cleaners, etc., but no luck.Tried to boot from the OEM-supplied XP CD but system doesn't recognize it. Oct 26, 2010I have a demension 8400 with windows xp pro media center. It has a 3 ghz processor 160gb hard drive. I have it on a wireless setup. I don't know much about the inside of a computer so I need help. It is extremely slow to open 1/2 hour or so and even more so to get into any program or internet. Yesterday I checked everything I could check and somehow or another I found a screen that had appeared stating errors and saying something about images not being able to open.

Apr 27, 2006My sister's computer is running very slowly, particularly at startup (which seems to take forever). I've got Panda antivirus software running and do reasonably regular spyware scans with AdAware, but am not sure if the problem is just that the computer is old with too little memory / overheating because it's on almost all the time / something else I haven't thought of. To help me determine what's going on, could someone much smarter than myself take a look at this HJT log and see if you see anything of concern?

Oct 8, 2006think it all started 2 days ago. i had installed a game, but it would not start cause i needed some missing dll files. which i inserted. one of the things i did wrong however was that i tried to replace a faultrep.dll file. this was not the file i wanted to change. i read wrong on the error dll messege, but whenever i tried to replace it the old file would swap in, so no harm should have come from that. i also installed a missing direct x file: D3DX929.dll ..... thats the dll changes i have done. anyway the next day startup was weeery slow. i uslay can boot up my pc in 2 minutes, now it takes 5++ minutes, the destop appears in normal time. but the welcome tune is a good 2 minutes late, then programs that now are slow to start up are live messenger and zone alarm pro. also i have other problems. like i cant accses "my computer" by icon or other ways

Apr 4, 2007I have a Dimension 4700 and I was recently going through my add/remove programs list trying to clean up and get rid of some programs I didn't use anymore(like google earth, partypoker, etc) and I came across Yahoo Download Manager and figured I didn't need it and right when I clicked remove my computer shuts down, I am not sure how anything in this would have that kind of effect on my computer from removing, or if it was just a coincidence. I go to reboot it and get the blue screen error message Stop C000021a and below gives me another error- f 0xc0000135.

Aug 7, 2005Im having a bit of an anoying problem with it, it will randomly hang completely requiring reboot when i open programs, there is no pattern to what programs it hangs on, they are all different types, and it only hangs on them sometimes (there are a few it hangs on every time) ... The computer is overclocked somewhat, however i tryed taking the processor back to its 'out of box' speed and it still happens (it happened a couple of times before i even overclocked i noticed) so it can't be anything to do with that, i don't think..

WinPatrol doesn't even detect it, so I can't remove that hidden program/file with WinPatrol. Is there a program that is made to detect hidden files like this (see below): I believe the program is actually part of the .NET Framework 2.0 (Service pack 1), which was installed on my computer, yesterday. I want to remove it & all of it's components if one of it's components is the exact same file I'm having trouble finding & removing from my list of StartUp programs. Too Many Program Startup Groups Running Automatically?
Nov 3, 2006Computer is all of a sudden very slow. When I did a computer check for information regarding software, I found that many strange software files run automatically at startup. When I checked "msconfig", I only found 24 programs starting at startup which were normal. How do I eliminate these strange files. I don't know which one of these are necessary and I don't know how to eliminate them. They appear as "unknown". One example of a startup file is "zipfldr". There are pages of other ones.

However, when I start windows now I get an error message from Symantec PCAnywhere Update utility telling me that the program is not installed locally so the updater won't run.How do I remove this updater and stop it from trying to run at Windows startup? Mar 10, 2007For some reason i cannot delete any file or folder within C:Program Files. I get the error message: access denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected.I have XP home edition with a 3 partitioned hard drive. C:for Operating system, E:for software install and F: for data. The only software installed on C: partition is Kaspersky Anti-virus.I have booted up in safe mode to delete files but i do not want to do this all the time. I have also tried changing folder permissions and apparently i am logged with admin rights.

Oct 14, 2007I have an issue with my new clean install on XP. Every time I boot, C:Program Files keps opening. Here is the stuff I have tried so far. I looked in msconfig, the startup folder and in Startup on my programs list and it doesn't show up in any of these places. It isn't a new program, so it's not because I installed it recently. Here is HiJack This log for reference. I dont have clue what's to look in this. But may be it will help you. Similarly I have copy-pasted contents from autoexec.bat,win.ini and sys.ini for debugging. You may notice that there is TaskMgr link in startup. But its just one of my app I need on startup in my taskbar. It startup as minimized and it has setting "Hide on Minimized" checked in TaskManager. So It remains in taskbar always.

Blue Screen On Startup / Delete Program Not Found
Aug 31, 2008When I start my computer I get a blue screen that says, Is delete program not found - skipping Autocheck. Not sure if it is a I or 7 in front of the delete but either way after that the system starts normally. How do I get rid of that blue screen warning?
