I am trying to fix a new hp computer. the problem is when you start it up and it goes to log onto windows it starts up the typical light blue screen but an hour glass just sits in the middle and it does nothing, you can move the mouse bbut nothing else. to be more decritive, it the welcome screeen listing the users name to log on but it doesnt get that far, right before that but it just stalls and does nothing.

I have a friend, seriously - it's a friend not me, that had to do the windows genuine updgrade. She paid the $150 and instead of just plugging in the new product key she inserted the CD they mailed her and started a new install of windows. It seems it had trouble locating files and now she gets a option to select which operating system at start.The setup won't continue (it can't locate files on CD - maybe bad disk) and when she selects the original XP pro setup it won't let her past the login screen.

Original problem was BSOD so now i wish to do a clean install but unable to enter the bios to set PC to boot from CDrom. Got into safe mode once but it freezes. I piggy back the HD to another pc, did a virus/malware clean then defragged and clean the hd. Now i am ready for a fresh install but cannot get pass the dell screen. I tried 4 keyboards but still the same. The dell screen shows the F2=SETUP, f12 = Boot menu and Bios revision 1.0.10.
View 5 Replies View RelatedToday, I found out that my computer hangs at the login screen. I boot up the computer as normal, and the login box is shown. I click into the password field (Note: I do not have the normal welcome screen, I have the Win2000 one.) and am ready to type my password. When I begin typing my password, nothing pops up. I attempt to move the mouse, but it is frozen where it last was. Sometimes it doesn't even move (The mouse) when I first boot it up. So seeing this as any problem, I go in Safe Mode. It's a sure bet that the mouse will move. Though it moves flawlessly, the password box is where the annoyance stays. I attempt to type my password, but then my computer hangs, AGAIN.I'm typing this from my brother's computer, and have yet to find the answer. I hear that this is some sort of password corruption and can be prevented by not having passwords on the account. I want to change this, but I can't login in the first place.
This I'm sure is not a virus. I scan for viruses every week (With Kaspersky), leave Ad-Aware, Giant Antispyware, and Zone Alarm on. I've used Google to search for answers, and yes I've found them being solved. They include the same problems, but they can get into Safe Mode, which in my case, I can't. I've tried Safe Mode 7 times and it doesn't work. (I can get in safe mode but the keyboard/mouse still hang)I didn't have time to backup files, and I have pictures that I haven't backed up onto CDs. People that have solved this problem have done it without reformatting, and I need a solution without reformatting.
I installed Norton 2009 and I have noticed my computer was different. Now I cannot even get passed the startup screen.It is like its frozen,the on/off button at the front doesn't work,only the restart. When I click on my user account to log in, nothing at all happens.I am on my husbands laptop right now. It is an old computer,but can it just die like that?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI first noticed a problem when a command prompt window popped up during startup.1.exe. After some searching I discovered it was a trojan located on c root directory. I decided to try and scan to remove it. I used Adaware and AVG free and didnt get it. (only found a few low risk tracking cookies) I then tried SpyBot but during the update process it decided it needed to install the new version so it went ahead and did this then informed me i needed to reboot. I selected not to right away. I scanned with System Mechanic to remove junk and obsolete files and got rid of them all. I then did a registry scan and deleted everything system mechanic found.
I then deleted the installation .exes and shortcuts that had been added to my desktop by Adaware and Spy bot.I also have zone alarm running all the time.When i came to restart my pc, it passes the windows XP main screen but then freezes on the Acer brand screen. It also will not boot into safe mode. I just get the normal safe mode screen but with the operating system details printed across the top and no start menu/input options etc.Ive removed and reseated the RAM and the battery.Im really stuck as to what to try next!Its an Acer Aspire laptop about 2 years old.Ive done something to kill it but nothing massively different to what i have done in the past.Im fairly good with these things but im feeling a little lost for ideas!
User logs into the PC fine and after a few minutes the Windows log on screen
reappears but all white. You can move the bock around and still use all
function of the PC. Reboot the system the screen will go away but sometimes

Whenever i login to XP, the login screen disappears and the computer goes to the point where it looks like its about to load the desktop, but it doesnt. it just sits there. after about a minute, it will load. the funny thing is, if it gets to this point and i hit any key on the keyboard it continues to boot all the way through without the delay.

The new supply power works but I get to the XP load scree with the little progress bar and it just hangs there. I restored to last know good point and that did nothing and I did a system restore and neither seemed to help. Every time I try to log on to XP from the Welcome screen, it logs on for a split second, before logging back out to the welcome screen. Been in in safe mode, and ran Spybot S&D, Adaware 6.0, and AVG 7.0, incase it should turn something up, but to no avail. I reinstalled XP in the same partition, and deleted the old copy, and now the new install is doing the same thing. If anyone has any ideas, I'd like to hear them before I pull out the rest of my hair.

The error description says, "When trying to update a password this return status indicates that the value provided as the current password is incorrect." View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm using Win XP sp2 and I usually leave my computer on 24/7. This morning I tried to open a file but it never opened. I went into the task manager to see if its even processing and it was there but the ccapp was taking all the cpu. So i tried to shutdown and restart. After that windows boots up to the login screen just fine but when i click on my account it take a long time to show my wallpaper. I can pull up task manager and the cpu isnt being used. the hdd is only accessed in little bursts. After a while the start menu pops up. any keyboard commands like to bring up win explorer takes a long time and all the commands pop up in a big burp of of command executions. I'm trying to reach system restore but cant. I'm not sure how to get into safemode with this system because just after post when f8 is usually used to bring up the menu the system opens a boot drive selection screen. During the RAM tests during post theres text stating press del to enter bios and f8 to enter boot drive selection so im not sure how to get to safemode now.

when I first start the computer, windows hangs between the black windows logo screen and the first blue screen that says "windows is starting". I have to hit the reset button, it goes to the dos screen with the safe mode, etc. choices. I choose "start using last known good configuration" and I'm good to go. If I turn the computer off during the day and turn it back on, It works fine. It only hangs on the first start of the day.

I would start the computer, it would run through BIOS, run through the Windows loading screen, and after that it would run the CHKDSK to make sure my disks are fine. CHKDSK doesn't work, it just freezes right before checking the disks, so I restart and generally it will boot up. Most of the time it would boot up perfectly, but rarely would it go to the xp loading screen and then flicker as if it as going to go to the windows login screen but wouldn't. The screen would just stay black and I'd have to restart.
Next time, generally it would work perfect.So this brings me to the current day. After the windows xp loading screen, it goes black. The computer is on, but I don't see any activity for the HDD via the LED. SO i go into safe mode, i finally get CHKDSK to run, I had to really mess with some stuff to get that working. Windows says the volume is fine, and the only way I can boot my PC is in safe mode, but even that will freeze sometimes while loading some of the files.
I was just typing along in a word document when my whole screen on my laptop flipped. File, Edit etc are across the bottom and start and all those things normally across the bottom are on the top - but upside down. The mouse is working backwards as well. MAJOR PAIN. When I restart it, the Windows screen comes up correctly but from the login screen on everything is flipped. I have to press the OK button on this screen before the Wondows login screen will appear. The screen has a square outline with the filename in the top left corner and an OK button on the bottom of the screen - the center of the square is blank. The script before the file name is squares and lines which look like bar code. The file name which appears at the end of the script is always a dll type file and seems to be different each boot up. When I search on the file names the files are always related to Windows. These are the file names from the last three times I booted up. xpob2res.dll, wuaueng.dll, mprapi.dll.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently assembled my new system and did almost exactly the same installation process as I have done for my old system many times (except drivers for my new hardware). But now I experience random freezes at the blue Welcome screen.If logon process goes normally, there are three stages I have noticed:
1- right after boot screen disappears and welcome screen appears there is some HDD activity
2-hdd activity stops for 1 or 2 seconds
3-hdd activity starts again
But one time out of 10 or 20 everything freezes at the stage 2. I can move the mouse, turn NumLock on/off on my keboard, but I cannot select any user name to log on they are frozen. I tried using Windows Logo key + U (usually this brings up Utility Manager for Accessibilty) but it does not work.
So the only choice is do a hard reset.I did not find any errors in Event Viewer or any hardware conflicts. I have tried to use /bootlog option in boot.ini file but it logs only drivers and nothing about what happens at logon stage.Any ideas? Or maybe a good utility which can log everything that happens when my pc boots up and after that until Desktop appears?
i'm working on an HP Media Center PC M7680N.on bootup, it makes it through the HP screen, and the initial Windows XP screen and then it just hangs there with a blank screen. Tried numerous times.i reseated the ram and blew out the dust grill under the CPU fan, which was almost totally clogged with dust. after doing that i let it sit for a half hour to cool down and tried it again. same result.

I would start up the computer and it would go thru the Win XP screen then go to the Welcome screen and just hang. I would restart the PC and it would boot up fine. What would be causing this to happen? No error messages any of the times, its almost like the desktop gets "lost" from time to time.

Prior to this I'd
- Removed several viruses, trojan horses and a rootkit.
- Repaired the registry using registry booster
- Noticed no Ctrl - Alt - Delete
- Opened in safe mode and scanned for viruses after I'd removed them using Malware bytes but now clean.
But when booted XP hangs after entering password.
I've tried -
- Last known good configuration
- VGA mode..But can access using safe mode.
Windows XP halts and will not load Windows Explorer after the welcome screen An error message states that windows has encountered a problem and will close....Leaving me with a "Blue screen" I am able to get to my files only by "ctrl, alt, delete" and selecting browse at the task mngr. Or, I can log on as a guest where everything is normal again, but without administrative power. I have tried logging off the admin, then re-booting..no change. Performed a virus check, spy ware check, system restore, which is how this all began in the first place! I even tried re-installing XP. Nothing has worked yet. Ther are no service packs or updates of any kind on the system, nor is it possible.

I have searched reference articles, forums, etc and have found others have the same problem and have narrowed it down to nvidia drivers and hardware conflicts that load after 'mup.sys' in the boot up process.I had installed a nvidia graphics card and driver before this problem began but then uninstalled, deciding to keep the on board sis igp.
