I have had this problem before on XP Pro and never got it solved, but it is quite the nuisance. Whenever i login to XP, the login screen disappears and the computer goes to the point where it looks like its about to load the desktop, but it doesnt. it just sits there. after about a minute, it will load. the funny thing is, if it gets to this point and i hit any key on the keyboard it continues to boot all the way through without the delay.
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 installed on it.When I try to boot it, it will load well until Windows is booted. Then, it slows down and takes a few minutes to get to the login screen (using the two textbox screen). Then, it takes a few minutes to load a message box with error 0x80090006, Windows can't authenticate. I cannot access safe mode. My friend does not have a repair disk, and I have an XP Home SP0 install disc (from an old computer). Is there a way to fix this issue?
We just finished cleaning NAIL.EXE off the machine, and are now attempting to fix as weird login issue. Whereby it will STALL in both safe and normal mode BEFORE the user selection. It requires a reboot, and eventually the user selection will come up after rebooting enough times.
Today, I found out that my computer hangs at the login screen. I boot up the computer as normal, and the login box is shown. I click into the password field (Note: I do not have the normal welcome screen, I have the Win2000 one.) and am ready to type my password. When I begin typing my password, nothing pops up. I attempt to move the mouse, but it is frozen where it last was. Sometimes it doesn't even move (The mouse) when I first boot it up. So seeing this as any problem, I go in Safe Mode. It's a sure bet that the mouse will move. Though it moves flawlessly, the password box is where the annoyance stays. I attempt to type my password, but then my computer hangs, AGAIN.I'm typing this from my brother's computer, and have yet to find the answer. I hear that this is some sort of password corruption and can be prevented by not having passwords on the account. I want to change this, but I can't login in the first place.
This I'm sure is not a virus. I scan for viruses every week (With Kaspersky), leave Ad-Aware, Giant Antispyware, and Zone Alarm on. I've used Google to search for answers, and yes I've found them being solved. They include the same problems, but they can get into Safe Mode, which in my case, I can't. I've tried Safe Mode 7 times and it doesn't work. (I can get in safe mode but the keyboard/mouse still hang)I didn't have time to backup files, and I have pictures that I haven't backed up onto CDs. People that have solved this problem have done it without reformatting, and I need a solution without reformatting.
How well does NAV 2005 and ZoneAlarm Firewall 5.5 work together? are there any compatibility issue that i have to be aware when using this two together? and is it competely safe to mix it up? Which configuration would take system resource or drag computer performance? (NAV 2005 and ZoneAlarm Firewall 5.5) or (Norton Internet Security 2005).
I am trying to fix a new hp computer. the problem is when you start it up and it goes to log onto windows it starts up the typical light blue screen but an hour glass just sits in the middle and it does nothing, you can move the mouse bbut nothing else. to be more decritive, it the welcome screeen listing the users name to log on but it doesnt get that far, right before that but it just stalls and does nothing.
I bought a new system with XP OS. First time it is directly login into admin account.I created 2 more users on this system and created password for admin user. But when I switch on computer, It directly login into Admin user.Once I log off it is coming welcome screen and asking selecting user and Password.
i've installed my Win Xp Home using an nLite mastered image on which I selected my user to autologin on boot. Now I want to turn that off, and have the login screen at boot instead. Any hints on how I shall do it?
I read something on the Windows website that says Media Center Edition 2005 has a power option called Away Mode. The settings it has are perfect for me, but it is not in my powercfg utility. Is there an extension I can download for the program to get Away Mode? Please note I'm not talking about one of the Power Schemes. I'm talking about a whole seperate power mode available that turns off the monitor, mutes the sound and slows down the graphics and CPU.
I have DirecTV and want to watch TV on my computer. I am looking for TV Tuners and they all say that it is "125-channel cable ready tuner". Does that make a difference if I can watch satellite TV through it or not? I haven't found one that says anything different.
I'm getting a really nice $2000 Dell Dimension 8400 on December 8th, and it comes with Windows Media Center 2005. Anyways, I was wondering if it had the same features of XP Pro, but with the extra media features.
So I just reformatted last night and installed Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. Since installing it, I haven't been able to restart or shut down. The computer gets stuck on the background (no icons and taskbar). I don't even get to the blue screen that says it's saving settings and shutting down. Is there something I'm missing? I'm going to try starting up the computer with nothing selected in the msconfig and see if that fixes it. I'm 99% sure the problem occurred even before I installed drivers and such, but I'm running a Dell Inspiron E1505 with ATI Mobility X1400.
What happened is I just installed a new Hard Drive and a fresh windows install (XP Pro with Service pack 3). After all was installed it logged into my account (Me) which was my account with Administrator privileges. I did a series of windows updates now when I turn my computer on it goes straight to the Administrator account and not my account (me). So I have to log off or switch accounts from Admin to Me. I just want it to login to Me all the time. So I am not smart enough to figure it out.
Please help urgently as I am not able to login. After inputting my password it says loading user configuration and after that it again jumps back to login screen.
Thanks to those who responded to my question on July 7th on Norton Anti-Virus 2005 acking as a firewall. There seems to be a variety of opinons on that but Norton has since then assured me that their 2005 program does indeed act as a firewall as well as an Anti-Virus software and unlike Windows XP's firewall it monitors the behavior of outgoing network traffic. The program did ask me if I wanted the "worm" feature and I agreed and it did turn off the windows firewall to avoid conflict. I asked about installing ZoneAlarm as well and was told there was no need to do that and it might also conflict with Norton
i am upgrading my pcs mobo and proccessor i was looking online and found that you have to do a new boot for windows to work and i dont have a boot disk or the disks that came with the pc. so im not sure wat to do microsoft says they cant give me a disk for it and i paid for it so i dont want to rebuy it just becouse im upgrading
Basically I have run out of PCI slots now - I am not putting anything in PCI slot 1 as the heatsink of the X1600PRO arriving soon will overhang it making it a very tight squeeze. So my only options is a USB 2 DVB Tuner to simply receive DVB and HD Signals with AC-3 Sound. Meanwhilst I can use the Hauppage PVR-150 MCE which has the PVR plugged into its S-Video port to archive recordings from my cable PVR box into a movie file to edit out commericals later on and put onto DVD and free up the PVR so it can continue its series link!
I understand that MCE 2005 supports two TV Tuners so that 1 channel can be recorded from one tuner while another is watched from the other. However does MCE 2005 support two different brand TV Tuners (i.e. the Hauppage MCE PVR150 and a Leadtek USB 2 DVB Dongle) or do the two tuners have to be identical brand, model, etc. The Leadtek USB 2.0 is described as being compatible with MCE 2005.
it will shut off and restart itself. He claims that this has been happening close to when he received it. We had no real proof of it restarting until last night when he was actually using it and it restarted before his eyes. He is running Windows XP MCE 2005.
I've tried deselecting everything from the startup in msconfig and it still gets stuck on the background in normal mode.
I made the stupid mistake of running the rollup 2 application for MCE 2005. Of course an error appeared and the installation was not successful. As a result the setup program decided to restart my PC and use system restore to restore the computer back to the period prior to that accidental installation. Now everytime I either logon to a user account or logoff back to the welcome screen I get the following message:
Windows - Registry Recovery
One of the files containing the system's Registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternative copy. The recovery was successful. The only button I can click is OK - so I do so and I carry on. Under my Dad's and sister's account this message doesn't appear so often but they keep screaming at me when it does, accusing me of "tampering" with the registry when I have done no such thing...............
I loaded QuickBooks 2005 onto my home desktop, running XP home. When I tried to run the program, it won't open. This message pops up:"Windows XP and Windows 2000 users must have Power Users or Administrato group rights in order to run QuickBooks. Please contact your system administrator about being granted those rights."I cannot figure out how to set my computer to allow this program to open. My computer now only has 1 user set up.
After putting my pc on standby or hibrernate, about 20 min later it turns on again, restart and shut down work fine, so i always shut down. no errors or anythingthe hibernate and standby work fine, its done correctily and then the pc wakes itself up in a half hour. please tell me why. ive made sure there are no tasks set so its not that.
Everything that I open is coruptted ALMOST everything, some programs will install correctly, but after a short few hours some of them will not even open, like when say I click on Dvd Shrink it just does nothing. Ive Reinstalled the programs plenty of times NOTHING. Half Life 2Norton Antivirus 2005 in stalled from 2 different cd roms that have been cleaned numerous times will not install says corupted cab files or various other files corupted
My new rig recently had a Hauppage WinTV PVR-150MCE analogue TV Tuner attached. Following advice from this forum I was told that I could add any other TV Tuner in addition to what I currently had - it was impossible to add another identical PCI tuner because I am out of slots in my motherboard. So I got the Hauppage WinTV Nova-T DVB USB2.0 Stick - it fits in the USB port, provides me with DVB TV and doesnt have an excess unwanted remote control as I already have an MCE remote that came with the PVR-150MCE.
Now in MCE 2005 I cannot seem to record one channel while watching another. It keeps coming up with the message "Media Center is currently recording X do you want to stop recording and change channel?" - I want to change channel and KEEP recording going, why not do what I bloody well want and look for the other second tuner!!!) Why oh why doesn't Media Center use both the TV Tuners to its full potential?? I thought Media Center 2005 could utilize both tuners so I could watch one channel while recording another regardless of what type of tuner they are.
I have a HP Pavillion a1430n with sound problems under Windows XP media center edition 2005.I need help because like 2 weeks ago I turned on my computer and their was no volume where the volume box used to be.Whenever I try to raise the volume nothing shows for volume. My computer seems to have lost it's sound.I was wondering is there a place that I can go to downlad a sound card for my specific type of computer, which is now 3 yrs. old.
There its there a way to install Visual Studio without Windows Xp knowing that it was installed already? Having just updated to the Antispam version of NIS my System Restore now refuses to operate properly. I can open it (sometimes) but as soon as I try to do anything with it it hangs. Most other programs are not affected except as I close IE now, I get an error message "The instruction at "1x127cfb80" referenced memory at"0x0215ad58". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program." This may or may not be related.I tried removing NIS 2005 and System Restore came back to normal but having reinstalled - the problem now re-occurs. Symantec website is useless and I cannot find any telephone numbers.Has anyone else had a similar problem?
I'm using Win XP sp2 and I usually leave my computer on 24/7. This morning I tried to open a file but it never opened. I went into the task manager to see if its even processing and it was there but the ccapp was taking all the cpu. So i tried to shutdown and restart. After that windows boots up to the login screen just fine but when i click on my account it take a long time to show my wallpaper. I can pull up task manager and the cpu isnt being used. the hdd is only accessed in little bursts. After a while the start menu pops up. any keyboard commands like to bring up win explorer takes a long time and all the commands pop up in a big burp of of command executions. I'm trying to reach system restore but cant. I'm not sure how to get into safemode with this system because just after post when f8 is usually used to bring up the menu the system opens a boot drive selection screen. During the RAM tests during post theres text stating press del to enter bios and f8 to enter boot drive selection so im not sure how to get to safemode now.
