I have DirecTV and want to watch TV on my computer. I am looking for TV Tuners and they all say that it is "125-channel cable ready tuner". Does that make a difference if I can watch satellite TV through it or not? I haven't found one that says anything different.

Whenever I boot up the PC, 3 sessions of MS Word open - 2 sessions have a new (blank) document open, and the 3rd session just shows Word as being open (no new document).I went to Documents and Settings | Application Data | Microsoft | Word | Startup to see if there was anything in the folder prompting Word to open the 3 sessions. The folder was empty. I then clicked Start | Run | msconfig | Enter to see if Winword.exe is in the Startup folder. I thought I might see it in there 3 times – one for each of the Word sessions that are opening whenever I boot up the PC. Strangely enough, Winword.exe wasn’t in the Startup folder at all – not even once.

I got a external unit and it does not recognized either. Of course I can not run winxp again, because the cd unit does nor work. Any suggestion is a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6084.

The start menu is slow about opening things in there too. Any idea what is going on or how to solve it? The installer said it may be a shared resource problem. I have winxp and everything that is required for the satellite internet.
View 14 Replies View RelatedThe Toshiba Power Saver is set for the screen and HDD to shut off after 30 minutes of no activity. The screen saver is set to go after 10 minutes but after 30 minutes the screen saver stops and the normal screen comes up. I tried setting to a different power setting by right clicking the desktop and going to properties and setting it to "Portable/Laptop" but it did the same thing. Is there a way to fix this? My OS is XP Media Center and my Toshiba Satellite is a A100/A105 series.

When i go to burn a dvd now or even a cd it tells me to attach an external drive, or the area where you choose which location to burn to is greyed out. I can't seem to look up the model number on the Toshiba website, the number on my receipt is A70wb200e, while the number i brought up using the system itself is mfwt020acp08.

The settings it has are perfect for me, but it is not in my powercfg utility. Is there an extension I can download for the program to get Away Mode? Please note I'm not talking about one of the Power Schemes. I'm talking about a whole seperate power mode available that turns off the monitor, mutes the sound and slows down the graphics and CPU.

I am trying to upgrade my laptop to Windows 2000. Once the OS was loaded I have two PCI slots not not recognized. I tried to put a Netgear Card into the slot and it did not work so I went to Device Manager. It gave me a PCI ?. I dont know where to get a driver for the PCI slots because I dont know there names. View 6 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP Home Edition on a Toshiba Satellite A35-S159. When I open My Computer, there is a category named Other and under it there is a hard disk icon I think with a red circle over it. In the red circle is a white question mark. I have tried to use disk manager to delete it but it does not show up there. I have also tried using partition magic t delete it but it doesn't see it until I create a AF format partition. Then when I restart, it claims to be it but I still can not delete it in partition magic, on rebot, it says it is not visible and even when partition magic sees it, disk manager does not. Has anyone encountered this and know how to get rid of it. I have also tried ad-aware and hijack this but neither found it. Please help, this thing is driving me nuts!

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5000 with Vista home on it and it works OK, but I bought a larger HDD and I thought that I would put Windows XP PRO on it, I went from a Hitachi 160GB 2.5" SATA drive to a 250GB drive, same Manufacturer, the only difference in the drives is the original was a SATA 1.50 and the new drive is a 3.0, BIOS see's the drive and the XP disk does al the usual stuff, then it asks if you want to Install windows on it, so I click OK and then it says the windows cannot detect any HDD and aborts the installation, I know that the 2 SATA's are compatible and the only draw back is that the 3.0 may operate in the 1.5 mode in the worse case scenario, but windows doesn't see the drive at all.

Whenever i login to XP, the login screen disappears and the computer goes to the point where it looks like its about to load the desktop, but it doesnt. it just sits there. after about a minute, it will load. the funny thing is, if it gets to this point and i hit any key on the keyboard it continues to boot all the way through without the delay.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I just reformatted last night and installed Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. Since installing it, I haven't been able to restart or shut down. The computer gets stuck on the background (no icons and taskbar). I don't even get to the blue screen that says it's saving settings and shutting down. Is there something I'm missing? I'm going to try starting up the computer with nothing selected in the msconfig and see if that fixes it. I'm 99% sure the problem occurred even before I installed drivers and such, but I'm running a Dell Inspiron E1505 with ATI Mobility X1400.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Media Center Desktop PC with Windows XP SP2. I had no problem using my Screen Saver or Standby Mode when I had dial-up internet service. I decided to go with Starband Satellite Internet Service and I have had problems ever since. My PC goes into Standby Mode with no problem but will not stay, after a time my monitor and PC come back on, at times my Screen Saver fails to come on. I have checked my power settings and reset them, they are the same as they were before. The modem is always on but if I unplug the power cord Standby Mode and Screen Saver work normally. Starband says the problem is not because of their syatem. I would appreciate help to correct this issue.

There seems to be a variety of opinons on that but Norton has since then assured me that their 2005 program does indeed act as a firewall as well as an Anti-Virus software and unlike Windows XP's firewall it monitors the behavior of outgoing network traffic. The program did ask me if I wanted the "worm" feature and I agreed and it did turn off the windows firewall to avoid conflict. I asked about installing ZoneAlarm as well and was told there was no need to do that and it might also conflict with Norton

View 2 Replies View RelatedBasically I have run out of PCI slots now - I am not putting anything in PCI slot 1 as the heatsink of the X1600PRO arriving soon will overhang it making it a very tight squeeze. So my only options is a USB 2 DVB Tuner to simply receive DVB and HD Signals with AC-3 Sound. Meanwhilst I can use the Hauppage PVR-150 MCE which has the PVR plugged into its S-Video port to archive recordings from my cable PVR box into a movie file to edit out commericals later on and put onto DVD and free up the PVR so it can continue its series link!
I understand that MCE 2005 supports two TV Tuners so that 1 channel can be recorded from one tuner while another is watched from the other. However does MCE 2005 support two different brand TV Tuners (i.e. the Hauppage MCE PVR150 and a Leadtek USB 2 DVB Dongle) or do the two tuners have to be identical brand, model, etc. The Leadtek USB 2.0 is described as being compatible with MCE 2005.
