After booting up my laptop and before the Windows login screen I get a screen which pops up. I have to press the OK button on this screen before the Wondows login screen will appear. The screen has a square outline with the filename in the top left corner and an OK button on the bottom of the screen - the center of the square is blank. The script before the file name is squares and lines which look like bar code. The file name which appears at the end of the script is always a dll type file and seems to be different each boot up. When I search on the file names the files are always related to Windows. These are the file names from the last three times I booted up. xpob2res.dll, wuaueng.dll, mprapi.dll.
At some point in time, do not remember when exactly, a text box started appearing before arriving at the login screen. Unfortunately I cannot take a screen shot of it or ID a process since it technically happens before any user is even logged in. The title bar of the box is two squares and the body of it is the same. Then there is just an OK button. After clicking ok everything boots normally. Scanned for viruses and spyware using every known method and the install is clean. I normally use linux most of the time, but whenever I go into XP to play a game, this drives me nuts.
my computer would give me a few problems while booting up. I would start the computer, it would run through BIOS, run through the Windows loading screen, and after that it would run the CHKDSK to make sure my disks are fine. CHKDSK doesn't work, it just freezes right before checking the disks, so I restart and generally it will boot up. Most of the time it would boot up perfectly, but rarely would it go to the xp loading screen and then flicker as if it as going to go to the windows login screen but wouldn't. The screen would just stay black and I'd have to restart.
Next time, generally it would work perfect. So this brings me to the current day. After the windows xp loading screen, it goes black. The computer is on, but I don't see any activity for the HDD via the LED. SO i go into safe mode, i finally get CHKDSK to run, I had to really mess with some stuff to get that working. Windows says the volume is fine, and the only way I can boot my PC is in safe mode, but even that will freeze sometimes while loading some of the files.
I was just typing along in a word document when my whole screen on my laptop flipped. File, Edit etc are across the bottom and start and all those things normally across the bottom are on the top - but upside down. The mouse is working backwards as well. MAJOR PAIN. When I restart it, the Windows screen comes up correctly but from the login screen on everything is flipped. I just use that computer for word processing not the internet so I'm hoping it is not a virus. I tried restoring the system
I start up my laptop with the screen closed. When I open the screen I see the XP login screen for a second and then the computer goes black. I can't do anything else.I have Windows XP Home with the service pack 2 (I regret installing it).I never had any problems before. If you know how to fix this let me know.
i have a pc (xp-pro Media Center ed.) set-up, but don't have extra keyboard at the moment, how can i enable the on-screen keyboard at the login screen so i can type my password
I've installed several programs that alter the look and feel of the computer, like Window Blinds, and Desktop X. Well, after uninstalling them both, I have this odd screen when I press Ctrl +Alt +Del. Remove the stars, have fun
When I start my computer (WinXP SP2) if fires up but hangs with a blue screen after I log in with my user name and password. I don't get any sort of error message; just a blue screen. I cannot do anything but turn it off. Not even the mouse will move. This happens everytime I start the computer.I have a Peer to Peer LAN connection between the above computer and another one running Windows 2000. If I connect via remote desktop from the 2000 computer to the WinXP computer it logs me on everytime and I never get the blue screen.I wonder whether anyone would have any idea how I can fix this as I don't want to have to keep RD to the XP computer from my 2000 computer.
I'm working on an HP 530 and when I boot up, it blue screens with a stop code. The code is 0x0000007B So far, I have attempted F8 w/o success, tested and swapped the RAM, and run checks on the Hard Disk.G-Parted can see and partition the Hard disk , but Windows Repair disk can't see the Hard Disk.I have re-imaged this unit and it completed successfully, but when I rebooted, it BSOD'd again. There is nothing in the BIOS to change it to IDE from SATA and the self-test is reporting no errors.
A few days ago strange lines started appearing on my computer screen. It has progressed and I could barely see anything. Then monitor kept going into "power saver" mode and back when I booted Windows in normal mode. I booted Windows in "safe mode". Monitor wasn't shutting off anymore but the screen was barely readable.I managed to save my data on external drive. I put in my Windows installation disk and restarted computer wanting to format the hard disk and reinstall Windows. When I would restart I would see black screen and hear DVD drive spinning but nothing was happening. Now when I restart I see this .This screen just stands there. I cannot access the BIOS, load Windows or boot from CD/DVD. All 3 fans in my comp work fine when computer is on. I tried removing this battery and putting it back later but it didn't help. My computer has 2 gigs RAM, runs Win XP Professional SP2 and this is my motherboard .At this point I have no idea what to do or even what caused this. I was hoping to format and reinstall Windows but I'm unable to boot.
Has anyone seen anything like attached photos? Done multiple google searches and nothing useful has turned up. The computer is a XP x86 system with onboard graphics, motherboard has already been replaced. Don't know where to turn next.
I'm using Win XP sp2 and I usually leave my computer on 24/7. This morning I tried to open a file but it never opened. I went into the task manager to see if its even processing and it was there but the ccapp was taking all the cpu. So i tried to shutdown and restart. After that windows boots up to the login screen just fine but when i click on my account it take a long time to show my wallpaper. I can pull up task manager and the cpu isnt being used. the hdd is only accessed in little bursts. After a while the start menu pops up. any keyboard commands like to bring up win explorer takes a long time and all the commands pop up in a big burp of of command executions. I'm trying to reach system restore but cant. I'm not sure how to get into safemode with this system because just after post when f8 is usually used to bring up the menu the system opens a boot drive selection screen. During the RAM tests during post theres text stating press del to enter bios and f8 to enter boot drive selection so im not sure how to get to safemode now.
I read previous threads. My problem(s): Hard drive checks out. Problem started with "unable to defrag due to system files..." Found what I thought was problem software, tried to remove it, it froze up, I attempted to cancel it, I shut computer down. Start up gave 0X00000024 (0X00190292, 0XBA4D9840,0XBA4D953C, 0X804EF920). I tried booting from Windows CD. When I tried to get recovery console, it asked for admin. password. I don't remember ever setting one. I attempted to recover or reset by methods on "tweaking with Vishal". Didn't work.
I will try to be as specific about my problem in general.I am using a Compaq laptop, using Windows XP. I don't know much more than that, but I can search for additional information regarding specs and stuff. It all started one day when I was browsing the internet using the latest version of Firefox. I turned up my volume and the blue screen of death appeared (advising me to seek tech support of sorts).I restarted, and yet again touching the volume yielded the blue screen of death. I tried several, possibly 6 times, and the only thing causing the blue screen of death is altering the volume in any way, including touching the volume buttons, adjusting volume in the volume control and adjusting the wave settings in volume control.
So I ran Spyware Doctor. I do pay the full 40 bucks a year for this wonderful program, and it detected a bunch of freaky looking things. Like adaware, something called virtumonde, and all these high threat viruses and adware, but it wiped them clean. I ran it again, it found 3 more standard viruses that it didn't name, cleaned them, ran SWD again and nothing appeared, so I assume now my computer is free from whatever was messing with me.The volume problem still persists though, and also at random times the blue screen of death will appear (I'm praying now it won't as I type all this or I'll cry). Then another problem occurred. When I try to open a file of sorts, that pesky message appears- windows explorer has an error of some sort, do you want to close it or ignore it?or something to that extent, so I can't view any sort of files now. I am running the computer in safe mode (which still exhibits the risk of a blue screen attack, but I can view the folders properly). Somethings up, what can I do to fix this? Any suggestions? I will try to answer any thing I might have left out.
I've got a problem that, if fixed, would by-pass other problems. I got a virus on one of my Dell Dimensions (E521) and figured I would simply just reformat the hard drive and do a clean install of Windows XP. I backed up all my information, put the hard drive in my second PC (E520) and reformatted the hard drive. So I ended up getting Windows XP installed on this newly reformatted hard drive by using my second computer (E520) to reformat then install using the Dell operating system disk.
I put the hard drive back into the first computer (E521) where it came from and I get this blue screen error with "Stop: 0x0000007B" I know that this means there are a lot of different things that could be going wrong, but it is mostly due to the computer not being able to load the OS from the hard drive. This is a big problem, but the bigger problem is my USB keyboard is not being recognized at start up on the first PC (E521) meaning I can't get into bios or do anything really since when the hard drive tries to load it gets this blue screen error.
I've tried updating my bios by making a bootable bios update disc and forcing my computer to start from disc by unplugging my hard drive, but it wouldn't work because I needed a keyboard to start the bios update from the disk in the dos prompt. - If there's a way to make the update start automatically it may update the bios, fix the keyboard problem, where I'll be able to get into bios and make sure the hard drive is being recognized properly. I figure if I can fix at least one of the problems I'll be able to fix the other. If I can get by the blue screen, I'll be able to get to windows and do a bios update there since the keyboard will be recognized OR if I can get the keyboard to work I'll be able to get into bios where I'll be able to fix the hard drive problem.....
I had an ELECTRIC POWER FAILURE during the start of Windows 2000 Professional this morning. After it, when I try to restart my computer, it begins to load Windows, but I receive the famous blue screen. The error code is: STOP: 0x0000007B (0x8243D030, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE I tried with F8 (last valid configuration, etc of the list), but all give the same blue screen. My repair floppy disk is from september 2007. After it, I installed a second HD for files backup and needed to put drivers for Windows recognize the bigger HD size. All worked fine until the power failure this morning. Antivirus and scan are up to date. Since I installed the driver for the bigger size HD, I cannot more boot through the floppy disk, because it not recognizes the HD. Is there anything I can do to not reinstall Windows?
I have a weird login prob. I cant log into windows live chat under one user name, but all others work for loggin in. I can get into hotmail with this ID and can also log into the web messenger with this id. I have been also able to log into windows live on other computers with this ID. It just wont let me in on this one computer! The error id is 81000306. Most repair suggestions assume that NO logins can occur. I've tried so many and still no success. (have even uninstalled and reinstalled, deleted folders and still no luck
When XP Boots up you get the Welcome Screen then the user gets the login in screen. Is it possiable to have a company's name flash instead of Welcome and Have a personalized Login screen with the company's name, and a personal message "Call tech Support at ext 555 with any problems"
My computer seems to work fine except when I try to do a copy in Casper XP to backup my hard drive to external HD. I also got this stop code last night when trying to do a disk check to correct errors. Stop 0X0000000A (0X00000188, 0X000000FF, 0X00000000, 0X804E35E9). I have located online page for stop 0X0000000A codes which states could be driver problem... that last one parimeter 4 -- 804E35E9 how/where would I find out which/if this is associated to a particular driver so I can possibly correct it?
I turned on my computer a few days ago, started up as normal, got past the XP logo, then just as the login screen was about to load i got this message:winlogon.exe- Unable to locate component This application has failed because SHLWAPI.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
I'm running Windows XP Pro on a computer. I boot up the comp and it goes through the POST etc. but it never gets to the login screen, the screen ends up black right after the Windows Xp splash screen. But when i restart the computer in safe mode, it's fine. I did it several times with the same result.Basically that's my problem. If I'm missing info that can help, let me know.
i am having trouble with my windows xp system when i turn it on it's fine but when i get to the login screen it is a black screen and i can only see the cursor. After a long time it finally works then i can login. So basicly i need help to speed up the time it takes to load the login screen can you help please i tryed defragmenting my system and scanning for viruses/spyware.
I got an AMD Sempron 2600 and a k7Triton Motherboard for Christmas and put them in my computer. After that my computer barely ever would boot up. If it didnt boot up my loading bar on the windows XP screen would freeze (the blue one) although it didnt freeze it actually would move very very slowly but windows would never load. If windows did boot from me choosing last knwn config(only one I tried) then it would boot flawlessly. But know the real problem.... I came home from school and had not turned my comp off in 2 days (hibernating) and my computer seemed to be slow i pressed ctrl+alt+del and my CPU Usage said 100%! even tho I was barely runing anything so i turned off my computer(not hibernate)
I have had to rebuild both my PC's (and my network) over the last fortnight. I installed Client Service For Netware in an effort to solve a problem (it wasn't the answer) then deinstalled it.Ever since then I have been getting the Netware Login Screen (single account name & password) rather than the XP screen (multiple account names visible). The pain now is that if another user wants to use the PC I get logged out completely, as opposed to being able to switch user while keeping my programmes running.
Hi-I just tried to load a HP office ject 4215 all-in-one printer on my computer using the typical install which included all kinds of features. I don't have enough space so I removed it using the uninstall feature on the cd. It did not remove everything so I used Windows explorer to find what I could. Then, I reinstalled it using the minimum requirements. It is working fine but everytime my screen saver comes on, when I move the mouse I am at a windows login screen that shows the users (only one which is me) on the right and I have to click this to get back to my desktop. I have Windows XP Professional.
When i boot my windows xp home edition machine, the normal login screen appears, but not all of the users and their icons show up One user and the guest user doesn't display...it is also in a lower resolution, so that may be why the other users don't show up, because there isn't enough room. Even when i click on my user, the first one listed, nothing happens. It doesn't log on, so I have to press Ctrl+Alt+Del twice to get the alternative login screen to appear...and then when i click OK for my user, it logs in. I would like to have it back to the original state of the first login screen...and not have to go through the steps of the other screen. Has anybody ever experienced this before?
For some reason, I can only get the old Windows 2000 logon prompt, even though I have "Use The Welcome Screen" and "Use Fast User Switching" enabled in my User Account settings. I want to use the Windows XP style logon. Unfortunately, with the classic logon prompt, I am unable to switch users without logging out of my current account.
i know this has been addressed before but i cannot find any threads with the solution. ive even fixed this couple times before but i forgot how.basically when u boot in normal or safe mode no users come up that can be clicked on. how do u fix this? if i remember last time i had to go into recovery console and replace login file or something
Ive recently been putting my comp in standby every night instead of shut down, but last night I shut it down and now it wont come back!! It stays at the Windows XP loading screen. I am only able to load it into "safe mode w/ networking." The "Last settings that worked" option does not work. I have tried to restore it 3 times to 3 different dates, and all give me the same result---stuck at windows XP screen in normal mode, or loading in safe mode.
