Dec 3, 2007my system gets stuck at the Windows XP screen with the blue bar scrolling across. I am able to get into safe mode, but restoring didn't work.

Boot Up Just Gets Stuck On The Loading Screen
May 24, 2006My brother's computer froze so the only way i knew to turn it off was to uplug the power.. I did that and ever since then i cannot get the computer to boot up all the way it just gets stuck on the xp loading screen.. Ive tried starting in safe mode, normal mode, and "last know configuration that worked" mode.. When i boot from my boot disk i get into the window's console, i try and choose the repair option, when it lets me do this it asks for a "administrator password", i dont remeber using one when i installed windows. I know the "quick" fix is to do a complete reformat and install, but my brother has alot of work files that he does not want to loose. This is my brother's computer, i always make a backup disk of my files for this reason.. but he didnt so im stuck betweena rock and a hard place.

But after 2 seconds or pressing F11 or any key, another line appears saying the same thing "Press F11 to start recovery". Can't get past this point and start Windows. HD is recognized in another computer as well as in BIOS.

Aug 25, 2008My main pc is stuck in a boot cycle giving me the black screen with options to start in safe mode etc etc and when selecting one of those options it reboots to the same point. When I press return the system tries to start it attempts it, clicks then goes back to boot cycle. The Windows XP system disk won't cut in like it should so I cannot gain control of the pc.
System is a Dell, 2years old and has had various viruses despite having the usual protection. I am currently using my old trusty Advent Pentium 3 for this message (which has never had the same degree of virus prob's curiously). After the first virus Dell talked me through using Ghost - brilliant. Within a couple of days it was hit again and usinng Spybot got rid of the virus but PC kept displaying the message rundll.dll file damaged. So I used XP Recovery seemingly with no problem only to find it won't reboot.

Blue Screen Error Bring Boot Selection Screen - Reinstall Operating System
Nov 12, 2009Encountered a Blue Screen of Death error. The error stated that I should run Chkdsk and then proceeds to restart and bring me to the Windows boot selection screen (safe mode, last known good configuration, normally). No matter which choice I pick, it always leads to the BSOD then restarts. Since this is getting me nowhere fast, I want to just format and reinstall windows. I do not have my recovery CDs, and when I enter the BIOS to change the boot sequence I cannot change it so the CD drive is above the hard drive in priority. The reason it gives me in the bios is that "All items on this menu cannot be modified in user mode. If any items require changes, please consult your system supervisor. Any ideas on how I can boot off the cd and reinstall windows from scratch?

It just goes black. The hard drive will run continually as if it's searching for the rest of the information, but can't find it.

May 26, 2008i rescently had to format the drive for a fresh copy. I have installed xp home retail version and realised i wanted to try something diferent. At system start the computer starts up prior to the windows boot screen and displays COMPAQ in big bright bold letters with option of F10 for system restore which is no longer on system (reformated) as well as other options for boot select pres ESC and F1 for setup.Can i remove this from my system? and then can i create a menu with 2 options 1 load windows normaly and 2 install a disk image stored on a hidden partition? maybe like the F10 key assighn that to access the imge and install it.

Oct 8, 2008I have a dell latitude d600 laptop and i keep getting stuck at the welcome screen. not frozen, i can move the mouse cursor around but there's no options to choose from so i'm essentially stuck. i usually keep my computer in stand by and then everythings fine. but occasionally i shut down my computer and thats when i have this problem. this problem started once in a while when i started up the computer but now it happens everytime i start it up. i called a tech support number and they had me goto "start" then "run" and type in "prefetch" and over 50 files came up. the man on the phone said there should be about 7 files there.

Feb 16, 2008I've been trying to fix this computer for the last 8 hours and I can't figure it out. I've narrowed it down to a system corruption, it's not hard, viruses or spyware, it's not anything but a corrupted windows installation.I will only image the drive at a last resort. I might just buy a second hard drive and install the OS and copy over the goods. Either way, I don't want to go though all that work. I know I can fix this.I had it working at one point, I did a Windows XP Setup into Repair mode, checked the disk and even went as far as created a second boot.ini - Just to eliminate a factor, that didn't work.What appeared to work was to "repair" the "corrupted windows installation" 3 or 4 times, and then do an "upgrade" and reactivate windows. I managed to get to a desktop, but then things just went downhill.
The icons where weird, and my "theme" was reset, and various other things. I created a new user in hope to start over, I was aimed at uninstalling things such as the vista transformation pack, etc.. Did a Windows Update, changed a few Driver letters so shortcuts worked, and then tried to "repair" the transofmation pack so i could uninstall it. I also did a Windows Update.Then I reboot, and my nightmare starts over again. Now I can't even get the damn upgrade/repair to work and it wont boot past mup.sys. If I just knew what file was corrupted or what was making the system hang I could rename/restore it and well you get the idea..Please HELP - I need this computer, it's got lots of client data and bleh bleh on it. I'm completely out of ideas and my mind is exhausted.
Home Won't Boot In Any Mode, Stuck In Loop
Sep 15, 2007I don't really know where i should start so.well earlier today i installed a second hd in my computer to pull so files off of it for my sister and my mom, but when i got it working it said accsess was denied to there stuff i went on my moms computer to check if i hade already backed up there stuff of the old comp, so i go into her document to see if i could find the old documents and when i start scrolling through them the window freezes...so i leave it for a minute and while i'm waiting i close some other programs one of which was mozilla which was also frozen.I go back to the my document window and its still frozen.
I try to close it and of course its not responding so i click end now and it made the every thing disappear like the task bar and all the icons on the desktop are missing...so i wait and see if any thing will reappear and nothing does so i restart it and it starts booting up..the windows logo comes up and the little bars only gets half way across then it restarts and brings me to that menu where you can choose save mode or start normally and all that and no matter what i pick the comp just restarts and bring me back to the menu.

May 7, 2008Installed SP3 today.The install seemed to go fine.Restarted the computer,now I am stuck in a boot loop computer starts, goes to the We apologies page.None of the load options work, computer simply shuts down and goes back to the same page. Since this computer was a Vista-ready computer,but I ordered it with Win XP Pro,I don't have the OEM Win XP Pro CD.Therefore, can't do a chkdsk.

Jan 19, 2005A few weeks ago, I was having virus problems on my computer, along with various other problems, such as Norton not working. One of these problems was that I would boot up my computer, and it would be stuck on the Windows XP loading screen with the little green bar forever and would not load the user screen. However, I could get the computer to boot up in Safe Mode with Networking and could get just about everything to work fine. Thinking that the problem with loading was a virus that had erased some of my system files, I reinstalled Windows and reinstalled Norton correctly along a Sygate firewall. Everything was running fine, I was running Spybot and Ad-aware every day and a full system scan weekly, but today, I started having the loading problem again. I have no idea where to start fixing it. I am currently running Safe Mode with Networking, so I can use the internet and most of my other programs, but I want Normal mode back for obvious reasons.

Aug 15, 2009Got an HP Pavilion 563w with Pentiun 2.4, and 512 MB of ram, running an oem XP. One day, I tried to start it up, and it booted to the Windows logo screen with the black bar. The bar went across twice, then froze. Nothing else happens after that. Tried Known Good Configuration, same thing. Tried safe mode, stops at mup.sys. I tried to get into Recovery console, but doesnt seem to recognize my hard drive, as my only choices are off of the CD (Drive letter e). Tried to repair system files with an XP upgrade cd, and it tells me there's no operating system installed, and that I need to verify my install by loading the installation cd, which I dont have. So I tried to use the HP system restore feature on my computer, but it only gives me the option to reformat, and not repair. I am the fool who did not regularly back up files, so I still have some on there I would like to have. I thought I could install this drive as a slave in my newer computer, but the hard drive setup in that computer is SATA, and my problem child is an IDE drive. I did not install anything new (hardware or software) that I can remember in the days before it went south.

May 15, 2006My pc was running fine when it just started beeping like a warning klaxon. Rebooting didn't help, but rebooting into safe mode then normal mode did. Then 1 hour later while running spysweeper, I stopped the scan early because it was taking too long. It detected 1 adware and 1 trojan, but the log said the trojan (ruin) could not be quarantined and some threat was still in memory, despite a problem free pc except for the beeping which I thot was resolved. PC Stuck In Safe Mode Loop / Wont Boot
Aug 21, 2007I'm working on an IBM ThinkCenter Desktop PC.On bootup, it goes through the IBM logo and then the Windows logo flashes quickly and then is gone and then the Safe Mode screen appears. No matter which option I choose from the Safe Mode screen, the result is the same: The Windows logo flashes quickly and then the system reboots, and then the IBM logo and then the Safe Mode Screen.I have tried running the repair module from an o/s disk I have here, but when I get to the c: prompt and type "dir" it says "error occurred during directory enumeration".There is only one partition.I have a copy of UBCD4WIN, if that would be helpful in diagnosing the problem.I do not have the o/s disk that belongs to this computer.

Apr 3, 2007Windows XP Home but before it boots to the start up screen it freezes and crashes everytime. I went through many troubleshooting steps and am stuck in a rut. here's what I've done. Tried booting in safe mode, that failed as well. Seems like the OS is really messed up. Tried using a restore cd that includes Windows XP Home. But the boot order for the cd rom is last and so it keeps trying to boot windows first instead of starting up the restore disc. To fix that I went to the Bios. Tried changing the boot order but that was not available to me because they weren't an administrator.
There was an adminstrator password set protecting the boot order but they don't know what the password is because they bought it from ebay a long time ago and lost that person's contact information. So there is no way of finding out the admin password from the previous owner. So now we're in a jam, can't get to Dos, can't get to windows, can't boot from the cd rom to do anything.

When I get to the log on screen, and click my user name (the only one available) it gets stuck on "loading personal settings".My first reaction was to boot from CD, at which point I could not get my USB keyboard to work during the boot which made it impossible to "hit any key to boot from CD", so I fixed that by plugging the keyboard into the default keyboard port with an adaptor.
When I managed to boot from CD, I tried to do a repair install and got the message "Setup cannot find Hard disks bla bla cannot continue, windows will restart".
Dimension 4550 Stuck In Re-boot Cylcle After Winupdate
Apr 24, 2007I have just run the automatic update on a dell dimension 4550, running WinXP with SP2. After the 'restart to apply' type message the PC is stuck in nan endless re-boot loop.
I have re-installed WinXP and rebooted, that is fine.I have reinstalled SP2 and re booted, that is fine.
The problem occoures only after applying the 72 autoupdates, after SP2 has been installed.

I recently installed some drivers to work with my logitech mx900 wireless mouse, I just have the mouse itself and a seperate bluetooth reciever. I could not figure out how to get it to work without connecting it every time I turn on the computer and un installed the program. Now my computer gets stuck after I press shutdown and in the blue screen where it says windows is shutting down
