my computer is restarting everytime i get to the log in screen. i think it is because of spyware or possibly a virus. is there a way i can boot from a cd or something in order to fix the problem. i would like to save the documents on there. it restarts about 4 seconds after the log in screen. i am running XP.

When I start my computer, it pops up with the standard menu it uses when an OS error has caused a restart. I can't get it too load windows using safe mode, last known good configuration, or normal mode. I never even see the windows loading screen, it restarts immediately.
View 1 Replies View Relatedit usually happens when im like working on it for about 2hrs or something. the pc would go dead, and reboot. or windows would hang, and from the hard disk led, i can see that it is all busy and unavailable. ta ta. its getting on my nerves. i just recovered my system from new.net, and now i have slower internet connection. no nothing wrong with the isp. i suspect there maybe reminents of the old virus still holding back windows. could my fears turn out to be true? i have had the liberty of posting my HJT log here, so do point out anything suspicious and also anything that could slow down the system..
View 1 Replies View Relatedxp pro sp2 automatic updates enabled. My computer restarts automatically after shut down. This happens sometimes immediately, sometimes after a delay of up to 10 minutes. I tried using third party shut down programs, but that did not help. However if I let the computer go into hibernate, it shuts down and does not restart. I do not have Roxio installed, and in the settings for startup and recovery the automatic restart is disabled.

I have a desktop computer that I got about a year ago, it's running XP Pro on Pentium 4 3.2GHz system, has 512 ram and I think a 200Gb HDD. Lately it has been restarting, usually when I try to, eg: listen to music and surf the web, which is nothing strenuous, especially for a computer which I thought was pretty good. All of a sudden though, it has just restarted itself and, and as soon as it gets to the Windows XP loading screen, it restarts again and again. I can never get past the XP loading screen. I have a lot of valuable information on the computer and so I was hoping that someone would be able to help me fix this issue without formatting if possible.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI was reinstalling windows xp home and it stayed in the same position for like an hour, so I had no choice but to either restart or turnoff. I did this and now I can even boot past the logo screen. I have tried inserting XP home disk but it does not have any previous version installed and only has the option to format the drive. GRR I tried safe mode, vga, last known config but all dont work . It seems that Windows/system32/config/system.log is the file (also get blue screen of death after trying recovery console, but hard drive is still in tact. Fortunately I have backed up most of my system. I would still like to get it back though. I havent got any servie packs so I cant turn of 'disable automatic restart..'
View 2 Replies View Relatedi have trawled the Internet and cannot find a solution to my fickle problem. its not a very big problem, but more of an annoyance really.on my computer, i am running windows xp home edition, sp2 with only 1 user account. i prefer the newer windows xp login screen (where you click the user to get in) rather than type in the user name and i have the single account passworded. up until recently, while at this login screen, i would not be required to click on my profile in order to activate the blinking character for password entry. if i wanted to log in, i simply turned on the computer and when it was ready, i would simply enter the password because the box would be active.now however, my computer has decided that i have to move the mouse over to my profile space and click on it to activate. i know its not very much to have to move the mouse, but i tend to use only keyboard commands to navigate myself around windows due to its speed advantages.

First of all, I will admit to making a couple of mistakes, first I have not backed up ANY data on my hard drive (actually I have 2 on my laptop) and secondly I lost my patience when laptop froze recently and just pulled the plug. Lessons learned!
OK, on booting up the laptop, I get the "We apologize for the inconvenience but Windows did not start...blah blah" with the BSOD, which after disabling automatic restart, I could read. BTW none of the safe mode options work, the last known good config.
All of a sudden, in the last couple of days, I find that I have to go through my Start>Turn off Computer > Restart twice in order for the computer to restart. Unfortunately, I've made a LOT of changes in the past few days (new programs, a system restore, windows registry cleanup, startup configuration changes, etc.) so I have no idea what caused this.

When logging in, either to the domain or to the local system, the system reboots after the password has been entered. I've tried restoring to an earlier point without any success. I dont have much running when it happened and its only started happening these last couple of days. Its not overheating either. Its strange thou, when the computer locks up it seems like it hasn't, like msn will keep poping up with people and winamp still plays music, I just can't do anything.

Well I have had a Windows Media Center PC since the start of last year. I had some problems with the hard drive having a bad sector so had it changed. Now, this has happened 3 times. The first time I just downloaded a game and started it, the computer stopped responding and well I couldn't do anything but to press the restart button.I did this and then started the computer again and it got to the WinXP loading screen then rebooted, this carried on happening no matter which config (safe mode, last knwon... etc) I picked.
PS I also heard there is a patch to solve this.. but couldn't find it..

Whenever I start up my computer, right after the windows xp display, my toshiba laptop gets the bsod and restarts, repeating the process over and over again. I can't go into safe mode or anything, it'll just do the same thing again. I've written the error code and it is 0x000000ED (0x84340E30, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) the problem is that i don't have my recovery disks or anything like that when i got it, but I do have this boot cd called ultimate boot cd which i got from timatebootcd.com, this will allow me to wipe out my hard drive but im just unsure if that will fix the problem.

This afternoon i turned it on, it started booting up, then restarted, it then gave me 4 options, to boot up my computer in safe mode, safe mode with networking, to boot up with my previous settings or to start windows normaly. Whatever option i pick, my computer will start to load and restart before it gets onto the windows logon screen.
