View 2 RepliesMy CPU is constantly 100%. My computer is terribly slow and may applications suddenly crash without warning. Firefox and print shop are the main crashers. I did a clean boot and after that the speed was absolutely fantastic,no crashes and very little CPU Usage. However, as soon as I added any of my essential applications(logmein, trend micro,Google desktop, linksys) the same problem was immediately back. I disabled these programs one by one and it still happens.
View 14 Replies View RelatedOut of the blue tonite, my computer started crashing when I went to play GRAW2. I couldn't even get to the desktop to try and sort things out. Booted in safe mode and got an error message saying my system32 file was corrupted and suggested I do a repair with the XP Pro disk. I did that, started GRAW 2 again and got another crash. (see attached thumbnail) I haven't added or removed anything from this computer in months, and it is rock solid performer. What the heck happened between last night and tonite to make it go crazy like this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a brand-new computer, put together by a relative with almost all new parts. It's running Windows XP. Occasionally it crashes, sometimes I get error messages about the registry, and every once in a while the clock is wrong. I understand a bit about stop errors (because of Microsoft's nice error-reporting service) but I don't know how to find out what is causing them. Something about a driver, but how do I know which driver?
The computer seems to crash randomly, not with any discernable pattern or regularity.I suspect there's something wrong with the DVD player- music sometimes skips if I'm playing from a CD, and once the computer crashed while I was playing a large video file. Then again, I've played DVDs with no problem quite a few times and I've always been able to copy and burn. When the computer blue-screens, it shuts down before I can read any of it.
To whom it may concern;I am running Windows XP home Edition, SP2, On a Toshiba satellite notebook, PIV 3.06gig, 1 GB of RAM.I get repeated blue screen crashes. Afterwards. The windows event viewer show a system failure "The Panda anti dialer service failed to start for the following reason: A device attached to the system is not functioning. When the report tool does give feedback it points to a bad driver or the Anti virus or fiewall software.

The system cannot find the path specified.
Would like the forum's advice on how to fix this annoyance.Win XP Pro, SP2, fully patched, firewalled, protected, runs great and boots very quickly. Once booted up, should the user leave the machine and log off, that is when the problem shows up. Using the mouse or the spacebar, the logon screen appears, the PW is entered, and then 'blank desktop'. No taskbar, no recycle bin, no keyboard or mouse function. To escape this situation, a reboot, then everything is normal.
View 13 Replies View RelatedActually its my friend that logged out. She has XP and is the only user. She has no "guest" log on. And she is apparently the "administrator". While she has never used a password, after accidentally logging out of Windows, she keeps getting the log in screen. She has tried the password blank, control-alt-delete 2x, changing the name to administrator and nothing has worked. Any further expertise that we can draw on from this group?

I reused an old computer for vidcam DVR storage and ran into a problem. The system is and old HP which I did a reinstall of XP. I don't think I installed any user accounts. I installed swann DVR software and the swan card- everything was running OK and worked as advertised. The swann stuff starts automatically when booting. I then upgraded to XP SP2. After booting the system asks for the XP login. I have tried every combination that I would have put in along with the defults and the swann login stuff to no avail. Is there a way around this to get into the system?

View 8 Replies View RelatedCould anyone shed any light on my problem. Every time I try to log on to XP from the Welcome screen, it logs on for a split second, before logging back out to the welcome screen. Been in in safe mode, and ran Spybot S&D, Adaware 6.0, and AVG 7.0, incase it should turn something up, but to no avail. I reinstalled XP in the same partition, and deleted the old copy, and now the new install is doing the same thing. If anyone has any ideas, I'd like to hear them before I pull out the rest of my hair.

View 13 Replies View RelatedThis is not the usual thread where you "forgot" your password or what not. I was trying to remove the login screen on windows by deleting a few accounts of mine, just to discover that the login screen is still there, only difference is now the username is "administrator" of which I have no clue what the password is.. SO. I tried a bunch of things such as booting from a password cracking image file, with no success (says disk is "dirty") and now I'm thinking that if I booted with a different hard drive and put my original drive in an enclosure I should be able to get into it and make some changes to fix this problem, by maybe erasing or resetting the password.. right?

View 11 Replies View RelatedWhat happened is I just installed a new Hard Drive and a fresh windows install (XP Pro with Service pack 3). After all was installed it logged into my account (Me) which was my account with Administrator privileges. I did a series of windows updates now when I turn my computer on it goes straight to the Administrator account and not my account (me). So I have to log off or switch accounts from Admin to Me. I just want it to login to Me all the time. So I am not smart enough to figure it out.
