View 10 Replies View RelatedI have searched around a bit to see if others have ran into this problem, but I have had no luck so far. When I start my computer, it pops up with the standard menu it uses when an OS error has caused a restart. I can't get it too load windows using safe mode, last known good configuration, or normal mode. I never even see the windows loading screen, it restarts immediately.
View 1 Replies View Relatedxp pro sp2 automatic updates enabled. My computer restarts automatically after shut down. This happens sometimes immediately, sometimes after a delay of up to 10 minutes. I tried using third party shut down programs, but that did not help. However if I let the computer go into hibernate, it shuts down and does not restart. I do not have Roxio installed, and in the settings for startup and recovery the automatic restart is disabled.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have tried to look for a similar problem here at TSG, but I couldn't find one so I decided to post. I have a desktop computer that I got about a year ago, it's running XP Pro on Pentium 4 3.2GHz system, has 512 ram and I think a 200Gb HDD. Lately it has been restarting, usually when I try to, eg: listen to music and surf the web, which is nothing strenuous, especially for a computer which I thought was pretty good. All of a sudden though, it has just restarted itself and, and as soon as it gets to the Windows XP loading screen, it restarts again and again. I can never get past the XP loading screen. I have a lot of valuable information on the computer and so I was hoping that someone would be able to help me fix this issue without formatting if possible.
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy computer keeps restarting after me being on it for around 5 mintues, sometimes less, sometimes I can go for about 30 minutes before it restarts. I have tried my virus scan and adaware but it will not go through because it restarts constantly. It was missing some file I can not remember what it was. Also the last time it restarted I got these errors. Error Loading Language Resource DLL (na EvtRes.dll) and Runtime Error
I was reinstalling windows xp home and it stayed in the same position for like an hour, so I had no choice but to either restart or turnoff. I did this and now I can even boot past the logo screen. I have tried inserting XP home disk but it does not have any previous version installed and only has the option to format the drive. GRR I tried safe mode, vga, last known config but all dont work . It seems that Windows/system32/config/system.log is the file (also get blue screen of death after trying recovery console, but hard drive is still in tact. Fortunately I have backed up most of my system. I would still like to get it back though. I havent got any servie packs so I cant turn of 'disable automatic restart..'

View 7 Replies View Relatedit usually happens when im like working on it for about 2hrs or something. the pc would go dead, and reboot. or windows would hang, and from the hard disk led, i can see that it is all busy and unavailable. ta ta. its getting on my nerves. i just recovered my system from new.net, and now i have slower internet connection. no nothing wrong with the isp. i suspect there maybe reminents of the old virus still holding back windows. could my fears turn out to be true? i have had the liberty of posting my HJT log here, so do point out anything suspicious and also anything that could slow down the system..
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a couple of problems, but I also have a possible solution and would like to have a bit of guidance as to whether or not I'm doing the right thing.
First of all, I will admit to making a couple of mistakes, first I have not backed up ANY data on my hard drive (actually I have 2 on my laptop) and secondly I lost my patience when laptop froze recently and just pulled the plug. Lessons learned!
OK, on booting up the laptop, I get the "We apologize for the inconvenience but Windows did not start...blah blah" with the BSOD, which after disabling automatic restart, I could read. BTW none of the safe mode options work, the last known good config.
ive recently encountered a problem with automatic update. it doesnt seem to want to turn on,nor can i get any updates through windows updates..when i try to start it through administrative services i get this error....(error 1058: the service cannot be started either because its disabled ,or because it has no enabled devices associated with it)..however,automatic updates is turned on to "automatic" and "background intelligence transfer" and "event log" are also on. it just doesnt seem to want to start.when i click on "windows update" to update my computer on the web it tells me that there was an error starting this service because one of these three services is not running, however they are all running. my clock will also not synchronize either,no matter how i try.i cannot find any other services that might effect automatic updates from running. i have windows xp sp3. this just started today.

I need the most complex answer one can come up with for "how to restart the print spooler service".

All of a sudden, in the last couple of days, I find that I have to go through my Start>Turn off Computer > Restart twice in order for the computer to restart. Unfortunately, I've made a LOT of changes in the past few days (new programs, a system restore, windows registry cleanup, startup configuration changes, etc.) so I have no idea what caused this.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have had Windows XP on my computer for 3 years, during that time I have had no problems with updates. A couple of days ago updates were running when I got the following message box. Service pack 3 setup. Access denied1! Microsoft will now un-install the current updates. At this point I was in a hurry to leave and shut off my computer thinking that when I started up again, the updates would resume their activity.......
View 9 Replies View Related1) I have seen this problem posted on another forum in the past, but the thread never led to a solution.2) This problem has occurred with both a EIDE hard drive and a USB camera. I have also seen reports of it happening with other drives.
(NOTE: the items I am referring to use native WIN XP drivers; I have posted this problem on other forums and the first responder always tells me to go to the manufactrer's site to download the latest drivers.)3) The problem: every time I reboot, the Hardware installation wizard reports the following: "The specified service does not exist as an installed service."4) Once this dialog box is closed, the yellow warning diamond appears nect to the device in hardware manager, and the driver "disk.sys" is NOT installed, although "partmgr.sys" is.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis problem just started occurring today. Whenever I lock the computer, then unlock it, automatic updates turns itself off and the red alert pops up in the taskbar. Same goes for when I restart the computer.
How can I fix this? I never turned them off and when I try to re-enable them, the security center tells me that it can't re-enable them for some reason, so I have to do it manually. However, the problem persists even after I turn them back on.
A friend of mine is running Windows XP Home, and using IE7 to surf. When I went over to help him with a Wi-Fi connectivity problem, I found that when typing a URL into the IE7 Address Bar, when I hit enter, I would see a Windows Box pop up telling me that it couldn’t find the URL. When I type a URL into my IE7, the “http://www.” is automatically added. I never have to use the “CNTRL/ENTER” trick that actually does work on his PC for each URL that’s typed.
