I am having a problem with my computer whereby I have a screen before my computer begins to boot and this screen used to show for about 3-5 seconds then disappear. In the last couple days this screen has been sitting there for anywhere up to 5 minutes before the PC even reaches the loading XP screen
View 8 RepliesWhen I reboot my PC it takes a good 3 minutes to get from the "Welcome" screen to being ready to work with only 4 items on System Tray, volume, Sunbelt Vipre, Zone Alarm Firewall, and Win Patrol. The, "RECGUARD" isn't shown but is there also RECGUARD, Vipre, Win Patrol, and Zone Alarm is all that's present under msconfig Startup. I have ran CCleaner, Defrag, Disc Cleaner, and Registry Mechanic to no avail. Under, "Startup Programs" under, "System Information" there is one heckuva bunch of programs listed if that has any bearing on my problem, I can maybe do a Copy and Paste of the list if needed?
View 14 Replies View RelatedAs from a few days ago, the bootup speed of my PC has suddenly slowed to a crawl. it takes about 6 minutes for the bootup now, whereas before it had taken about 2 minutes.
I tried bootvis but it is not working properly and keeps coming up with errors.
Most XP Bootups take at the most 6 or 7 passes - passes being the number of times the progress bar runs on the bootup screen. But mine takes 12 - 16 passes I did have a problem with Gagp30kx.sys before but i have just reinstalled XP and it still takes 12 - 16 passes to bootup.

Gateway Pentium 3, 700 mhz - 256mb ram, 20gb hard drive.Until a few weeks ago my system booted up fine. Now it boots up to my windows desktop and then takes 20 minutes minimum to complete start up. The SVCHOST.exe hogs 99% of the CPU so nothing happens until it has completed its tasks.I have tried starting it without the start up items and this has no effect. I have cleaned it, defragged it, virus checked it, tuned it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a windows xp home edition sp2, with 2 Intel Pentium processors? I've try'd deleting startup programs, and i unleashed dozens of registry cleaners bud that makes no noticeable difference.This happens when i'm booting up;
- packard bell logo ( few seconds )
- windows loading bar (+-10 seconds)
my pc is taking a lot of time 2 boot up. I have 2 stare at the welcome screen 4 a few secs, then the wallpaper and the taskbar applications come up, but no icons on the desktop. After maybe 20 secs the icons show up but then the wallpaper vanishes, and comes back a few secs later. After all this, the pc connects 2 the network. Why has it gone so slow? I just have avast! antivirus, the xfire firewall, the HP imaging solution center and Free Download Manager in the tray

View 1 Replies View Relatedthe startup is VERY VERY slow. After the Welcome Screen, it shows your desktop and then you gain control and do whatever you want right? Well that's the part my PC lags or slows down a lot. I think the part it lags is when it's loading the icons on my taskbar, like the icons on the bottom right hand screen. I don't have a lot of icons, and they're not resource usage intensive AT ALL. My PC lags during that loading part for about 3 mins or more, and i can't do anything or else it'll make it lag more, i.e i can't open programs or games, i can't even open folders and even if i try to, it takes forever to show up.
The lagging part only shows everytime during startup, but after that it's all good, i can play hardcore games like Crysis etc on maxed setting and do multi-tasks, but i just don't get why it lags so much on startup. In fact, on my crappy Toshiba laptop, it's loads way way WAAAAY faster than my PC, but my PC is way better so i don't understand why. And they both have the same programs and settings, in fact my laptop has way more stuff running on startup and my PC has nothing but games, it's a full on gaming PC only with nothing else, so it shouldn't even lag..............
When I RUN, TLIST -s, TLIST -t, or NET START on the command line, the screen disappears before I can read it. This seems strange as I see the screen quickly flash by but cannot freeze it for viewing. However, when I type CMD, the screen appears and stays.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen Windows is starting up I get a mostly blank dialog box with an OK button at the bottom after the Windows splash screen disappears, on top of the Windows is starting up screen. The dialog box that contains a small piece of unrecognizable text in the top left corner that changes each time I start computer. Most of the icons on the desktop have changed to the generic I don't know what you are icon and no applications will run including Internet Explorer except the virus program . I get an error message that Windows needs to know what application created that file. (This includes cmd.exe)
The dialog box cannot be closed with the ( X ) in the corner and will only continue to start windows after sitting for about 10 minutes or clicking the OK button. I don't believe it's a virus as the virus program does load and did do a complete scan without finding a virus.
Any time an error occurs, the error screen pops up and disappears before you have a chance to read it. I doesn't seem to matter what the error is.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI tried upgrading my os to vista then decided I wasn't going to but ever since then I have been having problems with windows xp. When I boot up, I am given an option of choosing windows xp, or windows xp setup. I then have 3 situations:
1.If I choose windows xp my computer runs normally.
2.If I choose xp setup nothing happens I get a blank black screen.
3.If I do nothing I get a black screen that has one message, at the top it says windows is missing <windows root>system32hal.dll..How can I set my computer back to its normal state?
I can't thank you guys enough, you have helped me a bunch. anyways i went to a website and all of a sudden my computer turned off and i tried to turn it on and it works until 5secs in it would go to a blue screen telling me ways of fixing and to use f8.

All I get is a black screen asking me if I want to try some differnet ways to boot up, After trying all the different choices the only way that works is "Last Known Good Configuration ( your most recent settings that worked)" Then finally after that I get the desktop with this error saying RUNDLL error loading C:PROGRA~1MYWEBS~1ar1binF3SCRCTR.DLL. What ever that means? Then it says The specified module could not be found ok.

I was able get on Firefox but the mouse froze on the XP screen when running any HD application. Ctrl-Alt-Delete didn't free up the mouse, and doing it twice got no response.Earlier, I couldn't find any conflicts on the Device Manager.I changed my mouse connection from USB to Serial, but that made no difference...This AM, Windows booted up OK, but the screen froze right after a few tray & desktop icons had loaded. Ctrl-Alt-Delete still didn't function for a shutdown...Strangely, the Num-Lock light and the mouse underside red beam stayed on after shutdown.

I got a second hand one off a friend which I beleive and he beleives to be allright. = Baracuda 7200 .6 160gb HDD IDE... Obviously when starting it gets stuck on Error loading OS.. So I restarted went into boot menu and placed CDDrive as no1 boot. Placed my XP disk in... it went through the stages: Press any key to boot.Setup is inspecting your computers hardware configuration now on the blue screen of "Press f6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver that passes by what should appear next is sposed to be a screen saying "press enter to install windows xp or R to repair," but that doesn't load up instead I am stuck with.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was recently issued a new laptop at work and after a few pushed updates from our IT department, I discovered that everytime I boot I now get a strange screen just after the Windows logo but before the login prompt. The OS continues loading about 5 seconds after this message is displayed. I've contacted our IT department but they don't seem to know either.I have a strange feeling it was caused by a failed update. Judging by the spelling mistake in the message and the timing of the error, my guess is that it originates from a 3rd party driver/software. It is interesting to note that when booting up in safe-mode the error screen does not present itself. This further makes me suspect a driver of some sort. There are also no related errors in the Application or System Event Logs.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI run ScanDisk on a locked drive eg the drive with my op system and it suggests I run it at bootup, the bootup fails (and there is no Scan)- after the initial beep and basic b&w info, the screen just goes blank (no mouse pointer etc) - the red light flashes away on my PC box indicating a lot of hard drive activity though, but I've left it half an hour and it's got nowhere. Exactly the same happens if I instruct my anti-virus program to do a boot-time scan (Avast). My only recourse is to press F8 at bootup and select Start with Last Good Configuration and I can get back into Windows.

If I click on the icon it only reloads the same screen. Can anyone explain what is wrong? If I click on F10 (PC Recovery) during bootup the computer works ok after the recovery process is complete.I have only had this computer less then a year and I cannot find any answer on the HP site or from their support.

If I let this run and let it start testing, It responds with "unspecified error" after a second or two. I have manually run the disc checking on all HDs. No errors found. Is this some kind of a joke, a virus, or distraction so some malware can load?
