Apr 26, 2008My pc starts to load windows xp then i get a black screen and nothing happens,i got over this last night by hitting f8 and using debug mode but tonight nothing works.

Black Screen On Bootup
Dec 13, 2008Hi, I have been avoiding shuting down my computer because when I reboot I can't always get back to my Desktop. All I get is a black screen asking me if I want to try some differnet ways to boot up, After trying all the different choices the only way that works is "Last Known Good Configuration ( your most recent settings that worked)" Then finally after that I get the desktop with this error saying RUNDLL error loading C:PROGRA~1MYWEBS~1ar1binF3SCRCTR.DLL. What ever that means? Then it says The specified module could not be found ok.

Nov 8, 2005Tonight, when I just open IE and Outlook Express, all of a sudden, the screen turned black with a message, 'Time is running out', in the middle of the screen. Then the computer halted and I needed to reset the computer to restart the computer.
Does it mean that it is time for me to change to a new harddisk or it is of some other problem?
Black Screen Full Of Zeros On Bootup
Jan 23, 2009This is really starting to aggravate me. I fixed a computer for a guy by re-installing Windowx XP on it with Service Pack 2. He installed Service Pack 3 after I specifically said "DO NOT INSTALL SERVICE PACK 3!!!". Anyways, it started acting funny so I have it back. Now when it starts up I get a black screen full of zeros on it right after the Gateway screen. I am trying to put a fresh copy of Windows XP on it, but all of the writing is jumbled and the zeros remain. Anyone experience this and know how to make it display correctly again? Everything looks fine once it gets into Windows or on the Gateway bootup screen, just the "dos" screens have zeros on them and I cannot do anything with it like this.

Jan 12, 2007I tried upgrading my os to vista then decided I wasn't going to but ever since then I have been having problems with windows xp. When I boot up, I am given an option of choosing windows xp, or windows xp setup. I then have 3 situations:
1.If I choose windows xp my computer runs normally.
2.If I choose xp setup nothing happens I get a blank black screen.
3.If I do nothing I get a black screen that has one message, at the top it says windows is missing <windows root>system32hal.dll..How can I set my computer back to its normal state?

Nov 30, 2008I can't thank you guys enough, you have helped me a bunch. anyways i went to a website and all of a sudden my computer turned off and i tried to turn it on and it works until 5secs in it would go to a blue screen telling me ways of fixing and to use f8.

Oct 8, 2010All of a sudden the other day my OS (Win XP Pro, SP II) froze shortly after bootup. I was able get on Firefox but the mouse froze on the XP screen when running any HD application. Ctrl-Alt-Delete didn't free up the mouse, and doing it twice got no response.Earlier, I couldn't find any conflicts on the Device Manager.I changed my mouse connection from USB to Serial, but that made no difference...This AM, Windows booted up OK, but the screen froze right after a few tray & desktop icons had loaded. Ctrl-Alt-Delete still didn't function for a shutdown...Strangely, the Num-Lock light and the mouse underside red beam stayed on after shutdown.

Jun 21, 2009Hey, basicly my old Hard drive for some reason or another died. I got a second hand one off a friend which I beleive and he beleives to be allright. = Baracuda 7200 .6 160gb HDD IDE... Obviously when starting it gets stuck on Error loading OS.. So I restarted went into boot menu and placed CDDrive as no1 boot. Placed my XP disk in... it went through the stages: Press any key to boot.Setup is inspecting your computers hardware configuration now on the blue screen of "Press f6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver that passes by what should appear next is sposed to be a screen saying "press enter to install windows xp or R to repair," but that doesn't load up instead I am stuck with.

Oct 25, 2007I was recently issued a new laptop at work and after a few pushed updates from our IT department, I discovered that everytime I boot I now get a strange screen just after the Windows logo but before the login prompt. The OS continues loading about 5 seconds after this message is displayed. I've contacted our IT department but they don't seem to know either.I have a strange feeling it was caused by a failed update. Judging by the spelling mistake in the message and the timing of the error, my guess is that it originates from a 3rd party driver/software. It is interesting to note that when booting up in safe-mode the error screen does not present itself. This further makes me suspect a driver of some sort. There are also no related errors in the Application or System Event Logs.

Jan 23, 2006I run ScanDisk on a locked drive eg the drive with my op system and it suggests I run it at bootup, the bootup fails (and there is no Scan)- after the initial beep and basic b&w info, the screen just goes blank (no mouse pointer etc) - the red light flashes away on my PC box indicating a lot of hard drive activity though, but I've left it half an hour and it's got nowhere. Exactly the same happens if I instruct my anti-virus program to do a boot-time scan (Avast). My only recourse is to press F8 at bootup and select Start with Last Good Configuration and I can get back into Windows.

If I let this run and let it start testing, It responds with "unspecified error" after a second or two. I have manually run the disc checking on all HDs. No errors found. Jan 26, 2006Dell inspiron 1000 2.2 celeron 256 ram 40gig Win-xp.the machine had recovered from serious error. Upon rebooting the windows program would not load and the hard drive made a clicking sound. I went into setup and no value was set for the hard drive. then the clicking stopped for no apparent reason and i got the windows to load. i went on line for about an hour then the clicking noise started again and the unit shut itself off and tried to reboot on its own. again i went to setup and no hard drive was detected. I did nothing but look around in the setup and again the clicking stopped on its own. the windows loaded again and i am online just now creating this message. Usually the cooling fan would be running alot, however i did not hear it running at all since the blue screen.I have had numerous blue screens. the online search always points to the Sonic Record Now as the culprit but offers no solution.

Oct 28, 2008its my previously-formatted HP Pavilion dv5201tx! The problem is as the title above. I can go into safe mode. I've used system restore twice. And in Documents and Settings folder I noticed it has:

Administrator.computer description name.000
username1
username2
Is it creating more user folders? At some point Administrator.computer description name.000 wasn't there. Corrupted registry hive? I'm not sure! Restarted many times, used Last known good configuration, and it's still black after the boot screen. Please help!
Dual Screen Setup Works Fine During System Bootup; TV Goes Crazy When Windows
Jul 17, 2008In the past, I have used the S-video port (with RCA adapter) in a dual view setup with my TV. I recently reinstalled Windows XP and now I can't get the secondary display (the TV) to work correctly. I just get a bunch of black & white lines moving up the screen (looks like bad reception/static on a TV). The weird thing is that the TV displays everything fine during the bootup process, including the loading screen with the Windows XP logo. Full color and everything. It's when Windows actually starts that the TV freaks out. Another weird thing is if I use nVidia's TV setup Wizard and select "Span," the image on the TV actually stabilizes. But I am forced to keep a low resolution on the monitor (which wasn't the case before I reinstalled XP), and as soon as I make any other changes the TV goes back to freaking out.

Jul 17, 2005when I turned on my computer and got the blue screen of death, so I restarted my PC. Then a black screen came up saying "Windows could not start beacuse the following file is missing or corrupt : windowssystem32configsystem."
You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...
Now when i turn on my computer there is just a black screen showing, with nothing at all on it.

Nov 10, 2006i get this error when i tried to open up my computer, first the windows xp loading screen works fine, then after that the screen just goes black and stays like that forever. this happened when i tried to uninstall a USB Bluetooth driver and it was requested to restart my pc so i did, and after that restart i cant get in no more, the screen just goes black after the windows xp load screen. im wondering how can i fix this problem? please help me guys... thank you.. and o yeah one more thing.. when i tried it on safe mode it went to the welcome screen but after that when i try to move my cursor i didnt move at all then i restart my pc again and the whole thing happens once more

Jul 20, 2005friend whose computer has crashed the screen had frozen. He could do nothing except reboot it using the power button but on rebooting, there was a 'no signal' message on a black screen. We have checked the monitor connections (the monitor works when connected to his second computer) and even replaced the video card but of course this made no difference (no signal) We've taken out the HD and installed it on his second system. Jul 15, 2007my computer would give me a few problems while booting up. I would start the computer, it would run through BIOS, run through the Windows loading screen, and after that it would run the CHKDSK to make sure my disks are fine. CHKDSK doesn't work, it just freezes right before checking the disks, so I restart and generally it will boot up. Most of the time it would boot up perfectly, but rarely would it go to the xp loading screen and then flicker as if it as going to go to the windows login screen but wouldn't. The screen would just stay black and I'd have to restart.
Next time, generally it would work perfect.So this brings me to the current day. After the windows xp loading screen, it goes black. The computer is on, but I don't see any activity for the HDD via the LED. SO i go into safe mode, i finally get CHKDSK to run, I had to really mess with some stuff to get that working. Windows says the volume is fine, and the only way I can boot my PC is in safe mode, but even that will freeze sometimes while loading some of the files.
Won't Boot. Black Screen With No Cursor After The Logo Screen
Aug 9, 2010it all started when I ran Nod32 antivirus. I ran it because I had some viruses on my computer that I wanted to get rid of. After the scan there were 180 some detected objects that were quarantined or deleted. So then I restart my computer and after the windows xp logo there is just a black screen with no cursor. And after awhile the computer will just restart and try booting up again. I tried going into safe mode and safe mode with command prompt but I still get a black screen with no cursor. The last known good configuration doesn't work either. I'm pretty frustrated because I did nothing wrong. I am also having a feeling that nod32 might have quarantined some infected files that are essential for Windows Xp to boot. I also do not have any windows xp disks with me how to fix this?

Feb 11, 2009Was working fine this morning but this afternoon - Upon startup everything runs fine until after the windows splash screen everything goes black and the only thing visable is a cursor, but nothing to click, cannot ctrl=alt=del, cannot right click. Cannot enter safe mode at all, last good configuration doesn't work either. Computer is still running, fan whirring, lights flashing. Fan has been cleaned and power supply checked, no change. Cannot get into anything to run explorer or virus check. She is running Windows XP SP3. I'm unsure of when sp3 was installed. I understand this may be an issue, along with video and graphics drivers, display settings, corrupt registry, flat CMOS battery or loose internal connections.
