SP2 - Did Repair Install Now Windows Updates Won't Work
Aug 22, 2007
Did a repair install, everything is working except windows updates, it says I have updates and I can click on custom and it shows them when I click to install them it acts like it will then a box comes up and say they all failed. I turned off auto updates and went to the site and click on custom and they came up but the same thing won't install did it with express install to and its the same,. Any one know what could be wring, one update it needs is the windows validation update I know the disk is valid it came with the machine and it retook the product number when I did the repair install.
I have had some computer problems lately. It happened a day after I installed 2GB RAM (which I have since removed) and after we lost power in the neighborhood for over an hour. Don't know the real cause, but was in an endless loop of loading windows. It never went to the desktop though. So I did a Windows XP REPAIR. I'm not really sure if the computer is running as it should. The "problem" I'm having is the Automatic Updates are not installing.
When I turn on my computer, I get the following message:
"We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.
If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally.

I was using Latitude D600 and Latitude D620. After completeing a Repair install of Windows XP, Windows update will not install. I didn't get any error messages. It downloads all of the updates but fails to install.
I am trying to update windows from the microsoft site but it just dose not seem to be working right. The site will search my pc and comes up with 80 updates required. It will download them but when it trys to install it fails. There is no error code, just fail.
What do I have to do to get rid of windows error code 0X80200010 ? My automatic updates worked fine. Windows update tries to give me 10 updates now, and thy download okay but do not install successfully. I'm using AVAST! antivirus which seems to work very well. I'm also using Mozilla Threatfire and PCTOOLS firewall. In a few more days, I will be 3 months behind on my security updates.
okay at first this wasn't too anoying but now it is a major problem at first it was just that when i went to windows update it would get stuck in the thing where it says that it is checking for the latest updates.to try and solve this issue i did these things:i ran windows update for 3 days straight and didn't do anything on my computer (it was stuck in the screen i mentioned before)i reinstalled windows, but for some reason the problem carried over a friend of mine told me about windows defender and that it was free, so i installed it and behold it uses windows to update and im stuck with the bare bones of the program.
Had customer mb go out, and after putting in a new mb, windows blue screens on boot (of course..was expecting it). Usually do a re-install when replacing a mb, but in this case, the customer has some software that cannot be replaced, so my question is...can you swap mb's in a system and not have to re-install and loose data? I can get to safe mode, so thats a step in the right direction, and the windows "Repair" unfortunately dosent work.
Can anyone tell me how to configure windows media player 10 to work from behind the windows firewall which was installed when i updated to windows service pack2? I am using windows xp and explorer6.0 with verizon dsl 3.0 internet connection.
Dell Dimension 4300 crashed on me. (I got the "Strike F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility" message).I changed the order to the disk drive under the setup utility and was able to get it to recognize the Windows XP Install CD but that's where I'm unsure what to do. It gives me the option to either set up Windows or repair using Recovery Console. If I reinstall will I lose all the files on my computer? I have photos of my first born on there that I don't want to lose!
After a problem running Partition magic, which crashed part way through, a lot of my windows components no longer seem to work. This includes the Windows installer and Windows firewall as well as my Mcaffe security software. I think it was the latter that told me I needed to reload Java - but couldn't do that as windows installer is not working.
So I decided to repair windows by loading over the top. I had a problem at the end which seemed to be resolved by / CHKDSK R . However now it loads through to my login and then when I enter my password it says soemthing like - This copy of windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can log on. Do you want to activate Windows now? If I say no it closes the system down. If I say yes it just hangs on the teletubbies screen, without loading any apps.
Upon a normal reboot tonight, my XP Pro would not reboot. It hung on a screen immediately after the Windows XP scroll, it went to a blue screen with a "Windows XP" on it, where normally I see the WELCOME screen before Windows and the desktop appears. So the stall came at a SECOND Windows XP screen. After researching on the Net and talking to a couple of friends, and failing to get into Windows in Safe Mode (it stalled again at the same place), I started a Windows Repair reinstall.
I have a Dell Dimension with XP. XP is in need of repair. The original XP cd is gone. Dell sent me a replacement but when it is inserted the "cannot continue since the version of XP on your system is newer than the one on the cd" message. I know a new cd can be made that will include the SP3 update with it. But to do this isn't the original cd with the product key required I still have the product key but am having trouble continuing.
My tower was going into perpetual restart after bios, so I copied stuff off, then reformatted and reinstalled Windows. Did all the drivers, anti-virus, internet, so forth. I had problems with validating Windows, but that's solved now. Now, it seems, after about ten or twenty minutes, IE will not work, and I'll have to restart, to do it all over again. I haven't tried installing Mozilla to see if it works too, but I do know that the Automatic updates won't work either. It just hangs and never does anything.
I keep getting message to update virus definition yet each week I run a complete live Norton Virus Update. Try to manually update virus's but it does not work.
I reinstalled everything and downloaded all the updates. Yesterday I noticed the screensaver wasn't working. I ran ad-awarer and there were 14 objects that read "possible browser hijacking". When I tried to delete them the PC crashes. What's going on. The other glitch so far is I can't change my homepage.
when i turned my on my pc everything was fine, i update and ran "ad-awareSE" to check my pc, it remove 3 files, finished.
then i launch "disk clean up" which is provided my windows orignally, to clean up my pc, i select everything on the list and i click ok so it would start removing the files, but then something strange happened.
as 'disk clean up' starts cleaning my system i noticed it's taking alot longer than usual, then all of a sudden a horrifying message pops up:
warning: system files found in windows have been change or have been replace by an unknown source, current system files are unstable and will cause stability issues, please insert "WINDOWS XP installation cd" into a cd rom drive, set up will fresh replace current files with ones from windows xp cd.-----
i click cancel and it warns me that my system will become unstable, no more warning message have pop up UNTIL i launch "disk clean up" again, i once again select everything in the list and click ok so it could began cleaning my system.
then the same message pops up again.
i decided to do what it tells me, i took out my windows XP SP2 cd, put it in the cd rom drive, and soon windows start reading the cd WHILE disk clean up starts cleaning my system.
there's no message telling me that windows is repairing my system files, all i see is "disc clean up" cleaning my pc AND AT THE SAME TIME my cd rom drive is reading my winXP cd.
after it's all over, i tdidn't tell me to restart my pc, but i did anyway and after that i ran 'disk clean up' and i didn't notice anything strange in windows, i ran 'disk clean up' again, and there was no more warning message, i ran disk cleanup for a few more times and everything was ok.
i first thought maybe it was because of a hacker attacking my pc and messing up my system files, but that's not possible becasue i activated "block traffic" in norton firewall 2005, plus i already updated norton antivirius 2005 with the latest definition, and use ad-aware to remove all tracs of spyware, so really, what what happen back then, what's wrong with my pc? how can i solve this?
After a PSU failed and took my motherboard with it, I decided to build a new system and move my hard drive. Of course XP wouldn't boot. Since I didn't have an XP disc on hand (old system came with XP preloaded), I purchased Vista figuring I might be able to do an in-place upgrade (i could use 64-bit anyways). This didn't work as the Vista upgrade demanded to be started from within windows. I downloaded a clean version of XP w/ bittorrent and attempted a repair install. This seemed to go fine until setup restarted to complete the installation. Now XP restarts automatically on the loading screen and if I start in safe mode, I get the message "Windows XP Setup cannot run under Safemode."
I right clicked on the internet connection symbol, chose repair, after that the small panel appears persistently, I cannot close it. My windows is still running, I open tasks management, but dont know where the resource for that panel.
I am using the IIS on Windows XP to test pages I develop. Is there a limitation that Includes are not processed? I know they work on the server but do not seem to work from the local IIS install.
the S3 sleep state to work on the Tyan Thunder K8N motherboard running WindowsXP Pro x64? When I check my sytem from within Windows, it only says it supports S1 and S4 sleep states... I have the most recent motherboard bios and all other 64-bit updates installed... but for whatever reason, no utility, test programs or even Windows itself sees that this motherboard supports the S3 sleep state. It's a logo'd desktop motherboard, so it is supposed to support S3, but I can't for the life of me get WinXP Pro x64 to recognize that it does.
I want to repair my windows cause I doesn't boot up properly..I hve followed instructions but when I put cd in it takes mr to set up windows n asking mr to select partition..so I select my current system drive n it is asking mr to press c to continue setup using this partition..N then it ask me to format or leave current file system intact..am I doing something wrong, how come I don't have the repair windows xp option like it shows on the user guide?
i have recently been experiencing that notorious "ehshell.exe" error while attempting to use Media Center. I got an OS disk from dell but i am unsure of how to repair my system.I inserted the disk, clicked on Install Windows XP and selected the upgrade option, but all this did was give me system a Windows XP Pro option at start up.this is really giving me a problem. apparently now i have 2 Operating systems on my computer.
