I am running XP pro with SP1a installed on it. I have a bought copy of XP Pro and i slip streamed SP 1a onto a cd to ease installation and that is what i use. When i run SFC on this machine it continously asks for my CD regardless of whether it is my original disc or my slipstreamed with sp1a disc.I dont understand why it will not acknowledge these cd's.
I've been stupid and messed up whilst trying to get my bluetooth to work. I have windows XP Pro and did something in the bluetooth settings that needed me to restart my computer. When I did it had a screen with guest 1 showing and asking for a password. I haven't ever put one on so now I am gutted as I don't know what to do. I tried to start in safe mode and do a roll back but it wanted me to log on first. computer on which to ask as it is a wireless broadband connection
I tried booting it up and it asks for the windows password, I tried every password I could think of and nothing works! Is there any way I can get around this or it it useless now? The old job is long gond so can't get into that domain anyymore! It is running Windows XP, I am thinking there must be a way to get into this thing, I tried safe mdoe but it still asks for the login password.

When I double click -or select 'open'- HDD D: I get asked "Choose a program to open this file", with a list of programs displayed. This happens only in my computer - opening it from within an app, or from the drop down list of the address bar works fine. Now, 'explorer.exe' is not in the list, and also since the "always use the selected program..." option is grayed out, it doesn't help to manually navigate to explorer.exe & select it.
So I had XP Home and had one user "Quinn". I upgraded to XP Pro and for some reason, I was now prompted with a popup log in (similar to the one most people have and that I have at work) asking for a password for a user "Matthew". I don't recall setting up this user (my name) and had no password, but if I hit OK I was logged in with no problems.I looked into the User Accounts and saw that Quinn was still the administrator and that Matthew was a user. So I figured I'd keep it simple and got rid of Matthew since , well, I was Quinn and had no password for that account either. Now, when I boot up, I get a prompt for Matthew but by entering no password, I can't get in. The same happens when I try with Quinn. So after all of that here's where I'm at: I need to find a way to get into my computer and bypass the logins since I don't have passwords for wither account.
Even if I haven't set any password for my user account, all of a sudden the system started to ask for a user password to access windows XP.. I only have 2 users, me (the administrator) and guest. Recently I have unpurposely added a passport .NET account, which I don't want and I want to erase, can it depend on it?
I was cleaning my computer of some malware and when I rebooted the computer asked for a password. I never had a password before. No matter what I enter it will not allow me to log in,even in safe mode it asks for a password! I do not want to re-install and lose all of my data. Is there any way to bypass the password and get into xp. I am running XP SP2 on a Dell laptop with a celeron M processor.
I read elsewhere that I should initiate a repair of the OS with the original CD. The problem is to do that it is asking me for an admin password I never set
Keep in mind:I have no access to reboot with the original motherboard(fried) I have 4 Legal copies of XP on 4 computers (including the fried one) I have lost the disk and the XP serial number for that machine. I still have 2 OEM and one Upgrade XP disks So Eventually I am going to have to deal with the serial number issue I think (hope not) System 7 is not an option I need to fix this now and I do not want and illegal copy of the beta
I got a new computer so I wiped hard drive on old one to donate. On re-installation it asks for any micro soft disk. The xp was an upgrade and I got rid of the 98se disk after getting new comp.
I got a new computer, and when trying to set it up (it doesnt have windows on it yet) it asks for a copy of a system disk. What is the system disk? is it the windows disk? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but i've never set up a computer without an OS on it before.

When I receive an email in Outlook and it has jpeg's attached, I have to answer a warning msg each time I open the pic to view it.On my spouse's system (same as mine), she just clicks on it and it opens with no warning. How can I surpress the warning that asks "do you want to open this file?"It says the file type is "unknown" and that the publisher is "unknown".This is not a critical complaint, but I would like to find out the answer.
I am using Windows XP with Thunderbird for e-mail. I have never had a single problem with Thunderbird until last night. When I clicked "send" a message opened saying "Please submit your password". I have no idea what this is. I have never seen it before, but I know I can't send e-mail
Every time I start my computer, the Cakewalk Pro Audio Setup appears, and says that Microsoft DirectShow 5 has been installed on my system. Then it needs to reboot to continue the installation. This is all fine except that after reboot it would show me the same prompt all over again. Is there any way to stop this from happening? (I don't want to install Cakewalk anymore). My OS is WinXP SP2.
I'm starting up Outlook 2003 for the first time on my son's computer we put a new hard drive into, the old HD is hooked up through USB to an external HD case. When Outlook starts it asks for a location of the .pst file and I direct it to the external HD (F drive) thinking it will automatically import the old 85 meg pst file so we can save all the old emails, contacts etc. Unfortunately what it did was create a new where I directed it deleting the old .pst file completely, AARRGGHH, My question is, is there any way to recover all the lost files? I checked the recycle bin, no luck and am currently doing a search of the (external) F drive looking for the file.
I am trying to do what so many others prefer...install XP on a new notebook with Vista. I have had some problems thanks to the SATA controller driver. Even the bios has no option to turn the off the controller which has worked for me. So I slipstreamed the driver that seemed to be the one (read on another site) and started the install. Got to where the install asks to specify the RAID type/brand. I select what I think is the one (HP) and then a screen comes up which reads "please insert Windows XP Professional Setup Disk #4 into your CD ROM drive and press Enter when ready". I know of floppy number four, but this is asking for CD number four?
I installed a second version of Windows XP on my computer. If memory serves, I installed it on the same directory as my original operating system. I uninstalled it shortly thereafter however, every time I boot up, the computer asks me which copy of XP I want to use. This despite the fact that I have since totally reinstalled windows and even replaced the physical hard drive. How can I get it to stop asking for an operating system that no longer exists?
I have this problem trying to connect to my laptop or desktop (both ways).I am able to see the shared folders, but if I want to access them I get a password prompt. It asks me for a password and nothing works, I've tried enable/disable guest account.
I am attempting to help a colleague who is having the following issue: On a Windows network, users who are attemting to print to a network printer from any of their new XP machines are asked for a printer password, UNLESS they have Admin rights to the worstation. No printer password has ever existed.
When I turn on the computer, at the welcome screen it asks me to choose user. Administrator is the only option. I don't have a password and the password hint only says Me. How do I get the password that I need?
When I try to login in to IE and tell windows Xp to safe my user name & password. It will let me open IE but if I close it and reopen it. It asks for my user name & password again.
I am running XP Pro on a laptop loaded with programs and files. When I recently started it up, instead of loading with the familiar Compaq logo, it started in a DOS program (Phoenix BIOS) with a warning that "it had not been shut down correctly last time." I think I did shut it down correctly last time. The BIOS offered me two options. 1) Hit F1 to Boot or 2) Hit F10 to continue. I hit F10. That took me to a screen where I had to guess what to choose. Did I want to Save and Exit? Did I want to Escape and abandon changes? etc. I didn't know what to do but it seems I had not made any changes so I said "abandon changes and boot
i set up network setup wizard which led to csnw show in the control panel moreover now the way i log in and log off has also changed and when i start my comp it asks for a password.when i press ctrl alt and delete together instead og task manager opening a window security sumthing opens up i want to restore my log in and log off to normal state and delete the csnw **** and restore the task manager.

My computer came with the game Otto. I can open it in Media Center. "How do I close Otto!" I use the keyboard(have no remote). When I use the mouse and press the Green Button. It says an error message and asks to "debug". I click "no". It then says "Otto not responding, you will be returned to Media Center". Then thats done but I dont know how to close it using the keyboard or mouse.
I just recieved an IBM laptop while downloading some software, it was suggested by the site that I should download all the updated drivers. I am very wary of this advice because I don't want to fix something that doesn't seem to be broken, but at the same time, I would like to be up-to-date. I am running XP Pro, how I should proceed? And where I might safely download such drivers?
Every time I try to uninstall any program, Windows XP tells me that I need the installation package ("installer.msi" or "programname.msi"). I searched on my hard drive, and can't find any of these .msi files. This seems very dumb. I have been able to search on the internet and find some of the .msi files that I need. When I find the right one, XP accepts it and uninstalls the program.
tried to back up("burn" ) some files onto a cd but it is not recognizing when I put a blank cd in the drive. Also, in properties it shows that the drive is full...this is with the blank cd!
had sp2 and other updates installed. uninstalled most of them because...well because i was trying to install older software that worked before sp2 was installed.. anyway, now big problem. suddenly xp asks for password to logon, and this is really strange, i have never in my life had a password for my computer. so obviously no matter what i enter, the computer asks politely if i've forgotten the password
My issue is my machine displays "not enough disk space " error when i try to paste a file of 4gb though there is enough disk space of over 8gb free in my drive
