Blue Screen Error Bring Boot Selection Screen - Reinstall Operating System

Nov 12, 2009

Encountered a Blue Screen of Death error. The error stated that I should run Chkdsk and then proceeds to restart and bring me to the Windows boot selection screen (safe mode, last known good configuration, normally). No matter which choice I pick, it always leads to the BSOD then restarts. Since this is getting me nowhere fast, I want to just format and reinstall windows. I do not have my recovery CDs, and when I enter the BIOS to change the boot sequence I cannot change it so the CD drive is above the hard drive in priority. The reason it gives me in the bios is that "All items on this menu cannot be modified in user mode. If any items require changes, please consult your system supervisor. Any ideas on how I can boot off the cd and reinstall windows from scratch?

Do Need To Reinstall OS / Possibly A Corrupt Registry?

May 22, 2008

I have very minimal knowledge of computers, so please bear with me. I'd appreciate any help or advice. I'm not really sure what is relevant and what is not, so I may be including information that is completely useless. Until this weekend, I had xp home on my home computer. I use a program at work that I need to be able to use at home. I was using it without any problems until about 2 months ago, when the program did an upgrade. Since then, I have not been able to run this program at home. I have spent numerous hours in an open meeting with them, trying to fix the problem, and it seems to have baffled a lot of their tech support people. Finally, one of the tech support people noticed that I had xp home as my OS, and then told me that the program did not support xp home, only xp professional, so she couldn't help me any more, and said she suspected that was the problem.

I didn't think this was really the problem, but given that they would not help me any further, I purchased an upgrade to windows xp pro this weekend and installed it without any difficulty. Not surprisingly, the program from work still doesn't work. I spent another several hours earlier this week in an open meeting with the tech support people. The head guy told me that he thinks that there is a problem with my registry, and that is why the program is not working. I am not quite sure how he came to that conclusion, but it seems to be related to the fact that this weekend, after I installed xp pro, that one of my automatic updates (for windows installer 3.1 ) did not install with the error message 0x80070005. I have never had a problem with other updates not installing before, at least not that I'm aware of. Apparently, this update is crucial to running the program from work - or just updates in general are crucial?

Registry Backup Utility To Reinstall Individual Entries

Apr 27, 2008

I use acronis as a restore tool and have never had a problem restoring the entire operating system. I had this individual program that was corrupted and I reinstalled it from the image I made using acronis. However, the program failed to appear in the add/remove section of windows. I beleive that I have to manually reinstall the registry entry of the program in order for it to appear in the add/remove section. My question is: is there a registry backup utility that'll let me reinstall individual entries? Something that's a no-brainer also as I'm not completely comfortable fooling around with the registry.

Restoring Default SP2 Registry Keys - Download And Reinstall SP2

Sep 1, 2005

I was not able to install a new version of an engineering software package because something was left behind in the registry from the older version that I had removed. So I stupidly deleted a couple of registry keys that looked related to the software without documenting them (not just the tags, but the folders with the long alphanumeric strings). Now when I try to install the software it gives me an error. I ran system restore but the problem is still there (I don't think it restored the registry keys I deleted). Is there a way to install all of the default Windows SP2 registry keys or to download and reinstall SP2 in general?

I have my startup disk and i'm FULLY prepared to reinstall windows and erase everything on my computer, but when I get to that screen to do so (choosing destructive reformat or whatever) it starts, but then never finishes. I gave it to my tech people at the college, but they're seemingly incompetent, so I've come to you guys looking for an answer.

Get Rid Of Dual Boot And Reinstall Old Partition?

Jun 29, 2005

I wanted to reinstall Xp Home Edition on my Sony Vaio because I felt that I wanted to start fresh again. I lost my cd so I went on another forum and they told me to run the program called winnt32.exe in the folder C:windowssystem32I386. I did that and I reinstalled xp. After it restarted, It asked me which system I wanted to boot: Windows Xp Home Edition or Windows XP Home edition. I clicked on the new one (which I presumed to be the top one) and found that I could not log in. It just took me to the desktop and there was nothing on it.I also found that I could not use the standby feature. It is pretty much like safe mode except for the fact that I can go on the internet. Now I am faced with two problems.1. How do i get rid of that new dual boot partition 2.How do I reinstall XP on my old partition?

Reinstall Of Pro - Dual Boot With Home Does Not Work

Feb 20, 2008

All things were fine and I had XP pro and XP home installed and working on seperate drives. I have just reinstalled XP pro and now on booting, no option to choose either operating system appears. I have done some searching and have seen references to copying a boot file from the CD and placing it into the XP home operating system to fix this. The instructions were not that detailed and not directly related to having 2 XP installs. nearly all search results I have found related to Xp dual booting with Vista. I have been thinking of now copying ALL the files from the XP Home operating system into the new XP Pro and then reinstalling the XP Home system. Sigh. I cannot use the system repair/recovery option as I do not know the Admin password. where did I put that? Is there an easy fix to get the dual boot working again?

How To Reinstall Pro To Ububtu Dual Boot Machine?

Jul 25, 2010

Last year I installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my Dell Dimension 5000 running Windows XP Pro, giving me a trouble-free dual boot system until recently. Recently though, I've had problems with Windows being excruciatingly slow, some crashes, unexplained error messages etc - probably partly due to a load of unnecessary and now unwanted programs I've installed along the way. I would now like to start afresh with a clean reinstall of Windows - but am worried about possible complications with my Ubuntu installation and some horror stories I've heard about messing with the Master Boot Record. I do not wish to remove Ubuntu, and have had no problems with it.

Can I simply format my C drive and just install Windows again? Or am I rushing in where angels fear to tread? I have my Win XP Pro disk. I've reinstalled Windows in the past, but that was before I had installed Ubuntu.

System Files Missing Error - Reinstall Ie7?

May 12, 2007

Lately my pc has experienced lots of different problems. It all started one day when I installed a program named xfire. It was running fine with xfire until I came home from school. Heres a list of the problems:

1. live messneger has forgot my email and runs slowly when i attempt to retype it.
2.Live messneger cannot connect at all. It just comes up with this message straight away
3. The copy of windows I'm running has been classed as an illegal copy by the microsoft website (my pc has a preinstalled installation of windows which was on when it was bought from a store).
4.Many installation programs now come up with errors about missing files.
5.I can't find any viruses with avast,ad-aware or spybot.
6. I uninstalled ie 7 which somehow allowed the normal windows messenger to work without the scripts errors I got before, but now I can't reinstall ie7. The setup always comes up with a missing file error.

W2K Dual Boot And Registry

Feb 1, 2008

I recently installed Windows 2000 Pro on partition E: of my C: drive, where XP is on. However XP does not load. When I choose XP from the dual boot screen at startup, it starts loading but, when it appears to be about 5% loaded, the bottom of the screen changes to an error in "WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM". I replaced the NTLDR and NTDetect.COM files in C:I386 to the XP ones that were backed up, and that does not solve the problem.I'm doing fine on 2K, all my programs and files are still on the C drive due to the partitioning.the registry from XP seems to be missing. When I "regedit" from within W2K it pulls up, obviously, the W2K registry. My question is, can I get the "original" XP registry back from within 2K, since XP will not load? (I do have an old backup but it is inadequate for my purposes, since I have many new programs). And also, how do I get XP running again? All the files are there, presumable unmodified. Yet I get that error at OS selection at startup.Any answers or pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. My main concern is the registry but looking for solutions on the dual boot as well.

Reinstall Error Upon Reboot: Wont Reformat The Drive?

Oct 17, 2007

It has 2 drives and the boot drive is split into 2 partitions. I was 'upgrading' his XP (was on C: volume) to XP-MCE and there was a failure, I decided to just do a clean install onto that partition. I deleted the old boot partition and started installing XP-MCE into the now unallocated space. After the reboot to continue installation it stops after post with "Disk error" and "Press any key to restart" messages.

If I boot to the install disk again it shows the storage space as C: and the new installation as D: (opposite of pre-reinstall). I retried with the 2nd SATA drive disconnected and it's the same every time.I can't reformat the whole drive; the storage partition has all the backup data that I saved from the original XP installation.

Then I would copy more recent registry files from system volume and put them in the tmp folder and restart to the recovery console.
