Registry Backup Utility To Reinstall Individual Entries
Apr 27, 2008
I use acronis as a restore tool and have never had a problem restoring the entire operating system. I had this individual program that was corrupted and I reinstalled it from the image I made using acronis. However, the program failed to appear in the add/remove section of windows. I beleive that I have to manually reinstall the registry entry of the program in order for it to appear in the add/remove section. My question is: is there a registry backup utility that'll let me reinstall individual entries? Something that's a no-brainer also as I'm not completely comfortable fooling around with the registry.

On my box at home, I have Norton System Works, which contains a registry diagnostic/sweeper.At work, where I run Windows 2000 Pro, I was wondering...I know there are various registry diagnostic & cleaner utilities out there on the web, but I thought I had heard that Windows itself either includes one on the OS disc or makes one available for download. Is there such a thing as an official Windows Registry utility?

basically what im looking to do is delete some old entries that the XP backup utility has created over time that i setup a while ago. Im using the "copy" option.so nothing has been appended or incremental.Im just looking to avoid deleting the setup i got, and maybe just delete a few "copy" backups so that theres not 8 gigs / 1 years worth of backups.i only need about 4 months I forgot about it.cuz i never neaded it. But it looks as if its the only way b/c i cant just delete selected backups.all or nothing?/ anyone know of a better backup utility that is simple and easy on a system BTW?

I tried to delete the registry entries which were bad, I had 30 of them, but the these two will just not go away, even by doing them manually, such as saving as a backup then deleting it manually and remerging. They just show up no matter what I do, or so use programs like Registry Mechanic, which I found only mediocre, very far from the ratings. to delete these two entries somehow from someone who is actully knows how to without using several so called registry cleaners, which only work partially.

Have tried for months to get my backup utility to allow me to make a backup of my system and it Will not allow me to do so.Still unable to use the backup utility, it gives me a specific message. The backup file name could not be used."E:2505.bkf" Please ensure it is a valid path, and that you have sufficient access.I have tried other names for the file and none has ever worked, I have tried this since the backup utility was installed, I also uninstalled the utility and reinstalled it, made no difference.I could use some suggestions on how to get this utility to work.I have installed this utility twice, from the addons disc for the Xp operating system disc that came with my Compaq.

I'm using XP Home and have been backing up My Documents regularly to an external hard drive with the back up utility in XP. The last time I tried to do a backup, I got an error message, "You have either run out of space or the backup (.bkf) is too large for this disk. Note: if this disk is formatted with Fat 32 , the maximum possible size for the is 4GB." My external disk is 75GB with 45GB free. It is formatted in NTFS. I did a clean up and defragged the disk and get the same error when I try to backup. Is this an indication of a problem with the external hard disk or a problem with the XP backup utility

I have got two startup entries that cant be deleted. HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun They have the ability to clone most startup entries, and they cant be permanently deleted. Over the last year I have downloaded and ran multiple scans, with various malware applications from quite a few web site help forums.None gave any indication of malware present, but I suppose you cant rule it out. The first time I notice something odd was with Misconfig, I had three startup entries for SISUSBRG. I deleted two of them and disabled the original one. The next time they re-appeared was as 1 and 2 program entries

It started when I went to open a program that I've used reliably for years -- it started hanging, became unresponsive, and started sucking up all of my virtual memory. I uninstalled and reinstalled a clean copy, and the same thing happened when I tried to load it.I've since completely uninstalled the program, deleted all of its remaining files from my system, removed all of its registry entries.
I now have one folder that I cannot access, for no apparent reason. It's just a folder where I've got quite a bit of video stored (77 clips equalling roughly 13GB). Attempting to open it now results in explorer.exe sucking up all of my system resources until it (explorer.exe) crashes and restarts. (CTRL+ALT+DEL shows Memory Use and VM Size skyrocketing to 700,000+)

Is there any program that would identify these and mark them as removable? this is XP Sp2, if that matters. Only keys like this are in this hive.

Since installing Office 2007 (over Office 2000) recently, I often encounter delays in opening Office 2000 Word files. Furthermore, I am sometimes unable to open them unless I move them to a 'trusted' directory. So I defined a trusted directory, moved the file(s) there, and can work. But when I just now tried to open an Office 2000 Word file, I received a different error message, namely ' You are attempting to open a file type that is blocked by your registry policy setting.', with instructions to disable the restriction via regedit. When I looked at the registry data, there was no 'Office' tab whatsoever under the Microsoft tab beneath Policies. So I'm unable to edit the registry to 'unblock' access to such legacy files.
