I was installing some Ulead software when the power went out half way through. I can't unstall the software through add/remove even after deleting the temp folders (like the error told me to do). Software won't reinstall until first attempt uninstalls. How can I get around this?

Recently, my PC has been shutting down during the day when I'm not home. I know its not a power outage, and I have already checked my power options, its not set to shut down. I have scanned for virus, trojans, spyware, ect. ( I do it almost every night because hey, what else is the PC doing while it downloads that video game preview/demo for me?)

Wound up reinstalling Windows, and the PC was running like new again. Two days after the reinstall, we had another blackout, and I'm right back to where I was before. I've scanned for spyware, defragged the drive. I'm a novice, so I'm not really sure what else can be checked.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter a recent power outage in LA I switched of the power supply (P/S) switch and then the surge protector - no UPS. I came back two days later after a business trip and found the P/S was NFG. Enermax were nice enough to test while I waited and replaced it for me this on the spot, great customer service on 14 month old P/S. Now I can power up the machine but it's extremely slow and the desk top just hangs.

When I got power again I found start up o be longer than usual, and when the XP load screen was done the computer immediatly went to a black screen instead of moving to the normal login screen. There was video and the monitor was on, so I know the video card was functioning among everything else
I believe Windows encountered a few problems upon the quick shutdown prior to the power outage. Pretty much I tried everything I knew to try, using F8 at windows selection screen, and going to startup through windows with the most recent functioning configuration- this yielded the same problem unfortunately. I finally started up with safe mode, quite a few drivers loaded, but all in all the processes halted at a specific driver ( dont think this has any specific significance) mud.sys.
There was a power outage in my area and my computer restarted. After restarting it would hang at the Windows loading screen with the blue bar, and it would stay like that forever.

With 98 I created a startup diskette, wiped the HD, and then re-booted with the floppy and reinstalled 98.I've never done this before on XP. I have the DELL Reinstallation XP CD (Service Pack 1) and I have the 25 character Product ID stamped on the sides of the PC so that should be straightforward. I've backed up my son's files to CD. Do I need to create a startup floppy?

Verizon wants to know a dial up number for reinstallation, but I am on a cable modem and do not have a dial up any more. View 7 Replies View RelatedMy friends XP crashed so I leant them my recovery disc (my old pc had XP this one has vista), when the xp recovery disc didn't work for them, they used my Acer Vista one which has half or more loaded vista and stalled probably because the lap top is to old to handle it. Anyway there is a blue Acer loading screen doing nothing and the vista programs run behind it which makes it difficult to see what you're doing. They brought it around to me as I can use this pc to see what I'm doing and try and fix there's more or less by feel, if that makes sense. They tried reinstalling my xp disc but vista seems to super seed it and it wont take, which doesn't surprise me.

I recently installed Windows Live One Care on my computer. After installing it, I attempted to open it but had no success. An error message pops up and says "Windows Live One Care has encountered a problem and needs to close." It gives me the option to Send Error Report or to Not Send Error Report. All went well and I was asked to uninstall Norton Internet Security before installing again to take "make it work again" in the new environment.I am trying to reinstall but for some reason, the NAV install window keeps telling me there is an existing copy of NAV that I have to remove before I can install again.I've searched through the normal areas but am having no luck.
