Recently, my PC has been shutting down during the day when I'm not home. I know its not a power outage, and I have already checked my power options, its not set to shut down. I have scanned for virus, trojans, spyware, ect. ( I do it almost every night because hey, what else is the PC doing while it downloads that video game preview/demo for me?)
View 6 RepliesSeveral weeks ago, we had a blackout. When I rebooted my PC, everything was slow. Programs, internet, everything. Looked all over the web for a solution but found nothing. Wound up reinstalling Windows, and the PC was running like new again. Two days after the reinstall, we had another blackout, and I'm right back to where I was before. I've scanned for spyware, defragged the drive. I'm a novice, so I'm not really sure what else can be checked.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter a recent power outage in LA I switched of the power supply (P/S) switch and then the surge protector - no UPS. I came back two days later after a business trip and found the P/S was NFG. Enermax were nice enough to test while I waited and replaced it for me this on the spot, great customer service on 14 month old P/S. Now I can power up the machine but it's extremely slow and the desk top just hangs.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThere was recently a power outage in my home in which my computer has a forced shutdown upon loss of power while already in Windows (at the normal desktop screen). When I got power again I found start up o be longer than usual, and when the XP load screen was done the computer immediatly went to a black screen instead of moving to the normal login screen. There was video and the monitor was on, so I know the video card was functioning among everything else
I believe Windows encountered a few problems upon the quick shutdown prior to the power outage. Pretty much I tried everything I knew to try, using F8 at windows selection screen, and going to startup through windows with the most recent functioning configuration- this yielded the same problem unfortunately. I finally started up with safe mode, quite a few drivers loaded, but all in all the processes halted at a specific driver ( dont think this has any specific significance) mud.sys.
I was installing some Ulead software when the power went out half way through. I can't unstall the software through add/remove even after deleting the temp folders (like the error told me to do). Software won't reinstall until first attempt uninstalls. How can I get around this?

Suppose that after finishing using my word processor or viewing an internet page (or whatever) and closed all the screens that I had been using,I immediately shut down my computer by pushing the power button? The computer shuts down a lot faster pushing the power button than clicking Start, Turn Off Computer, Turn Off (and even then I have to wait about 30 or 40 seconds for the computer to shut down)

Also I'm unable to Save a new scheme.I beleive the schemes where deleted from the power properties window by right clicking and selecting delete. They used to be there anyway Unknown is listed above Turn off monitor-Turn off hard disks-System standby-System hibernates and everything is greyed out. They are still listed in the registry but with no value set.How do I go about getting the schemes back?

recently when i use grabit newsreader my pc shuts off by itself. it had never done so for the half a year before now when i used it.i think its my pc overheating. i tried dusting the inside a bit, and downloaded speedfan to show u guys what the temps are. the first pic is without grabit running. and the second pic is with grabit running. before i go thru a bunch of malware/spyware tests, which i dont believe is the problem, could someone please first rule out a simple fan problem?
View 14 Replies View RelatedProblem started with cd burner not writing through windows media player.I installed fireman and everything seemed okay.PC then starts rebooting itself at random.The past week it either won't boot up at all(it powers on but all the lights just flicker in a steady pattern while the screen remains blank) or it boots to the point right before the desktop loads then goes into the flicker mode.By holding down f2 or esc I can usually get the flicker to stop. The pc then tries to reboot again or just shuts off competely.I'm trying to do a xp repair this morning by booting off the cd.It will get down to 36 min to go and then goes into the flicker mode.

A blue screen comes up that says something along the lines of, "An unexpected error has occured and windows needs to shut down..." Then it gives some numbers, then underneath the only thing I remember it saying was "beginning dump of physical memory". There was more to it but I didn't write it down so can't remember, sorry! It's a blue screen with white writing. I've run anti-virus, I've defragmented, I've checked windows for errors and checked for adware.

I hope that someone can help as I'm sure that it's a pretty simple thing to correct, For the past few days if I leave my pc for about 15 minutes it just turns off as if it has gone into some kind of standby. I have to turn the monitor back on and wiggle the mouse and it starts back up with the screen exactly as it was before it went off. It isn't the same as going into standby as when i do that I have to use my user password to get back in. I don't have a screensaver at the moment but it kinda reminds me of one.

I'd be playing and my mouse would just completely stop working, anywhere from 1-10 or so seconds. I tried using a different mouse, a mx500 and I still get the same problem. I've tried different usb ports, different mouses, and anything I could think of. These malfuntioning occurences happen quite often, maybe 2-3 times every five minutes, and my mouse completely turns off for whatever amount of time. My computer is about 3 years old, but I keep it running like the day I bought it. I plan on formatting really soon, within the next few days and that might solve the problem. Please let me know of any reason this problem is occuring, and what I can do to fix it

It lets me log in and ill be at the main screen where my icons are.Then after 2 minutes it always shuts down. If i dont log in and stay at the name menu screen it will still shut down after 2 min.The screen goes black and thats it. I cant see anything anymore. The power on the computer remains on though, cause the green power light is still on. I tried to do a quick virus scan but 2 min isnt enough time to do it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy computer has been running fine for years but just this morning it has been shutting down for no reason. I'm running XP SP2. I started it up after it shut down, then it shut down again, only quicker. Tried to power on again but it powered off immediately, then it wouldn't power on at all. I gave the machine a rest for an hour then tried again. It worked for about two hours after that then it started shutting down again. I've run a few virus scans (in safe mode and in DOS) and nothing has come up.
