View 4 RepliesI want to clean my son's system by wiping the HD and then reinstall XP Home Edition. I've done this many times before with Windows 98 - it was a straightforward process. With 98 I created a startup diskette, wiped the HD, and then re-booted with the floppy and reinstalled 98.I've never done this before on XP. I have the DELL Reinstallation XP CD (Service Pack 1) and I have the 25 character Product ID stamped on the sides of the PC so that should be straightforward. I've backed up my son's files to CD. Do I need to create a startup floppy?

The problem is, if I go to a website such as tmobile.ocm/jobs or bet's 106th and park the picture wuill pop up for a sec and go away, which seems to be a flash issue but isnt, one because I have deleted and reinstalled flash 3 times and 2, this is only a problem with IE not Mozilla, its fine with it. So my question is, how do I uninstall and reinstall IE without an XP cd?

View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst I had win 95 on my computer than win 98 and then win 98 2nd Edition. I installed Win XP Pro with the SP2. All went well but I had to add some driver etc.I feel that it is not working correctly as there is another computer a friend has with the same program but it works differently. Sorry but I cannot explain it. I'm an old retired person and trying to understand these things.I would like to uninstall Xp and then reinstall. Will I need to go through the driver bit again and will any of my other programs be affected in a way that I might need to do something with them?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to uninstall IE7 then reinstall it. The problem is that pesky German thing again. I don't know is I should save my stuff or just do a clean install and then have to reput in all my stuff. Which would be okay. The reason I don't want the uninstaller deal in 7 to save my stuff is because I am afraid that some of that will be in German then here we go again!! This whole thing is because I can't install the English version of Adobe Flash.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy friends XP crashed so I leant them my recovery disc (my old pc had XP this one has vista), when the xp recovery disc didn't work for them, they used my Acer Vista one which has half or more loaded vista and stalled probably because the lap top is to old to handle it. Anyway there is a blue Acer loading screen doing nothing and the vista programs run behind it which makes it difficult to see what you're doing. They brought it around to me as I can use this pc to see what I'm doing and try and fix there's more or less by feel, if that makes sense. They tried reinstalling my xp disc but vista seems to super seed it and it wont take, which doesn't surprise me.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy QuickTime player has gone lu-lu....for the second time. This is my situation. I am unable to view videos(from my digital camera) and unable to access some websites.
The problem arises when I try to view a video, downloaded to my computer, from my digital camera. This is the error signature:AppName: realplay.exe AppVer: 11.0.0.431 ModName: quicktime.qts odVer: 7.2.0.240 Offset: 000cd909 I'm also advised that my Quicktime player is out of date and to please update. OK...I try that, then get the message:QuickTime player is not properly installed. Please reinstall. So I go to Add & Remove Programs and first attempt to "Repair QuickTime", which is unsuccessful. Then I try to uninstall but can't because files are missing.I'm running Windows XP SP2, IE6(don't like IE7) on a Dell Dimension 8200, 512MB ram. My technical/computer skills are limited!
I recently installed Windows Live One Care on my computer. After installing it, I attempted to open it but had no success. An error message pops up and says "Windows Live One Care has encountered a problem and needs to close." It gives me the option to Send Error Report or to Not Send Error Report. This happens constantly everyime i try to open it. I can not reinstall this program because it is not listed in my Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. Also, I tried using their (Microsoft's) uninstaller and i get this message.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Help and Support stopped working about the same time I installed the free utility GhostScript / Gsview so that I could view postscript files. I tried posting a question on another usenet newsgroup, but the answer of: click on install on the C:windowsinfpchealth.inf file - resulted in a search for the file dataspec.xml in the C:windowsinfi386 directory - Unfortunately, such directory does not exist on my C: drive. Furthermore, the "K:I386" directory of my Original Win XP Home CD does not contain any file named "dataspec.xm_ or .xml".And beyond that, I ordered a new Win XP SP2 CD, which just now arrived by mail - and there is no "K:I386" directory on that CD, nor does the CD apparently contain any file called "dataspec" (including dataspec.*).Another effort toward resolution occurred via another usenet post I read, which suggested opening the XP command line feature and executing a system status command, that displayed enabled services - I used that method, and switched the Help and Support service off and then on again. Such action did not in-fact enable the Help feature (including, of course restart), despite the indication that the Help and Support service was enabled. I am, and have been, running a purchased-CD version of Win XP Home, with a downloaded SP2 revision (I have not installed the new Win XP SP2 CD). Basically, I want to find out the means and methods for enabling my Win XP SP2 Help and Support feature, that apparently has been disabled or otherwise rendered inoperative. Is a reinstall of Win XP possible and the best choice? What are the other options?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been having some internet connectivity problems lately, and I believe it's due to some nasty spyware. I've already gone through all the steps to correct this (checking my DSL speed, anti-spyware scans, anti-virus scans, doing it all in safe mode, even reset my winsock.dll, etc.) but I'm still having problems with slow browsers. So now I think I'm faced with reinstalling Windows XP. My question is, should I do a format & reinstall, or is it better to reinstall Windows over my existing version? I have a Compaq Presario, and it comes with a Recovery CD.
