View 2 RepliesA LG netbook turned it on and the cursor is just stuck there in the middle of the screen. I don't use a mouse, just the touchpad, so I can't even attempt to do anything. Everything else seems to be working fine in the background upon boot up and on the desktop, but the cursor won't budge. Tried to open control panel but obviously can't do that with the cursor stuck. Any options the DON'T involve me having to buy a new USB mouse

View 3 Replies View RelatedThis evening I was using my netbook to listen to music offline, which was working perfectly well. I then closed the lid, which sent it to sleep, and upon opening it again, everything was going very slowly.
I re-booted the computer, which then took several minutes longer than usual to boot (whilst not booting quickly normally, being a low-powered machine, was a significant length of time longer amounting to around 2 or 3 times longer than normal), and the machine was still incredibly sluggish. It is also now unable to play audio files properly, it plays the first part perfectly coherently and then begins to lag more and more as the media continues. (The same occurs on any video files of any king played in any form)
Niece's netbook (Asus EeePC) running Windows XP has rather suddenly slowed to a real crawl. Think 5 minutes for a right-click menu to open, for example, instead of a split second. Last night I summoned the patience to start up the already-installed AVG virus scanner, and while it took hours and hours, it found zero problems. Ran CCleaner, no change. The desktop, icons, etc. etc. look correct and nothing seems awry except for the intolerable lack of speed. I realize it could still be a virus or malware, although I'm thinking of other explanations as well

View 14 Replies View RelatedYesterday whilst on a perfectly safe website i was alerted to a virus which advised it was a downloader and could not be removed, i followed the instructions and assumed it is quarantined, when i tried to restart the laptop this morning it wouldn't boot up, i eventally opted for a full recovery, however, the recovery reaches the end of stage 1 an and shuts down, i have tried this 5 times with the end result. I think i have been conned that my computer wasn't warning of a virus, it was abogus warning and by following the instruction i downloaded a devastating virus that has somehow effected my hard drive.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWinXP-Home; one hard drive with multiple partitions. My email client (The Bat!) crashed. When I reboot, I cannot access my L: drive (the mail directory). However, Partition Magic 8.01's PartitionInfo report no error on L: drive -- "No partition errors detected".Windows Explorer reports that the L: drive is not formatted. However, PartitionInfo shows it is formatted for FAT32.Is there any way I can fix the problem and get back into my L: drive? If this is not the correct forum, please advise which forum or newsgroup I should pose this question.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHadn't been on the computer for a couple of days, when I did I saw that Norton had found 2 high risk viruses (I don't recall what they were). I selected to fix both of them and it seemed to work. I also noticed that I had about 10 My Computer folders open. It then told me to reboot the computer, which I did. When the computer restarted, it seemed to power up OK, it then said starting Windows, and it went to the log-in screen. (I have two log-ins, one for me and one for my wife). When I click on either one of the two log-ins, it automatically says saving settings and logging off, and then it goes right back to the two log-in selections. I have tried to log-in in Safe Mode, and every other option available to me, and I get the same outcome. I tried the Recovery Disk that came with the computer, and it would not boot from the CD drive, even when I changed the settings to boot from the CD Drive. It tried to star once and I hit R for a Standard Recovery and it seemed to start, then I got a BOOT: Memory overflow error..Please insert another disk and it just locked up. I rebooted and I could not get back to the recovery menu. It just sits there with a black screen with a blinking cursor and then I get the following error. Disk Boot Failure, insert system disk and press enter. And it does the same thing now every time I try it. Is there a way I can just get to normal DOS to try and recover my files?
