Unable To Recover For Formatted HD?

Apr 28, 2007

Ok here's the story, I bought Windows Vista, hated it with a passion, so I went to reinstall XP. Everything's going fine, then it gets to the stage where it wants to pick a hard drive to install it on.
I have a 120GB (split into 40GB/80GB partition), and 2 250GB HDDs. So it tells me I have a previous version of Windows installed. I say format that (I was on the phone to a friend while doing this, so I wasn't paying much attention, but I've done this hundreds of times before), then "Storage 2 (E Formatting"...I pulled out the power supply in haste, but it was to late, logged into Windows, and gone 250GB of files that would take years to recover, if they are even recoverable... and I just realised all my web development work was on the drive as well... I have back ups but not everything is backed up...I only did a quick format, so I don't know if that makes it easier to recover but I need a good, reliable, and possibly free program to get my stuff back.

Unable To Access Old HD - Possible To Recover Information?

Mar 8, 2005

microsofts website states that on your old machine if you un-install the drive before removing it, you should then be able to move it over to the new computer and everything should be dandy, now unfortunatly ive set up the new computer and the old computer isnt working for some reason and im not sure what happend along the way but thats another matter altogether.

my question is, is it possible for me to recover the information on this disk? xp is currently asking me to format the disk whenever i try to access it.
PartitionMagic and DiskManagement in XP both show the drive and its full amount of space but unfortunatly it doenst show up any partitions, it is however listed in PartitionMagic as a "dynamic disk".

Unable To Recover Private Documents From Other Win-install?

Oct 3, 2008

I got a virus a while ago which froze windows after startup. The only recourse was to reinstall windows on a different partition. The virus is now wiped out, but my old install of windows was ruined. I attempted several methods of troubleshooting, the latest being running a windows repair through the CD. The current situation of the old install is that it boots up to a black screen where I can manoever the mouse cursor as desired but without any other functionality (this is before the login screen, which never occurs).

I had a few important files lost thru this process, and wondered if there is any possibility of recovering them.

Unable To Recover Partially Removed Program From SP3?

Sep 9, 2008

I ran Secunia's scan and it found I needed to update Java. Apparently Java installs a new version and the old version remains. I used Revo Uninstaller to remove Java. However, in the last stage where a few more files were being removed, Revo crashed. Now when I look in Windows Add/Remove Programs or Revo - Java is not seen. When I run Secunia - it still says Java's outdated version is on the computer and shows it in the program files. I tried to delete the entire Java folder from the program files, but Windows tells me I cannot delete a .dll file. How do I get the Java completely off this PC so I can update to the "safe version? Oh... I tried System Restore, which never works (even after going thru all the steps to make system restore start working), and, of course, this time it did not work either. I have three computers and System Restore never works on any of them. But that's another rant!

Unable To Recover Deleted Registery Values?

Jan 24, 2009

I am going over to a friends house this morning and help them clean out her computer. The only program that I am sure they have is Norton. I am planning to run scandisk, and defrag. Also I will take a look at her startup list and compare it with sysinfo.org/startuplist and remove what I feel comfortable doing. If not installed I will install Spybot Search and Destroy and CCleaner (but uncheck the registry cleaner). They both no very little about keeping the computer cleaned out.

Missing 5GB Of Hard Drive Space / Unable To Recover Back?

Hello everyone. I am currently using Windows XP SP2 on a Thinkpad T43 laptop. My main partition which houses windows xp is 34 GB total size. When I highlight the C: drive in "My Computer", it tells me that I have 10GB of free space (therefore I'm using 24GB). When, however, I double click on C: and go into that folder, select all (and yes, I have enabled viewing hidden files/folders), right-click and choose properties, I am then told that C: only contains 15GB of files/folders. Where is this missing 5GB?
