View 2 Replies View RelatedYesterday whilst on a perfectly safe website i was alerted to a virus which advised it was a downloader and could not be removed, i followed the instructions and assumed it is quarantined, when i tried to restart the laptop this morning it wouldn't boot up, i eventally opted for a full recovery, however, the recovery reaches the end of stage 1 an and shuts down, i have tried this 5 times with the end result. I think i have been conned that my computer wasn't warning of a virus, it was abogus warning and by following the instruction i downloaded a devastating virus that has somehow effected my hard drive.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWinXP-Home; one hard drive with multiple partitions. My email client (The Bat!) crashed. When I reboot, I cannot access my L: drive (the mail directory). However, Partition Magic 8.01's PartitionInfo report no error on L: drive -- "No partition errors detected".Windows Explorer reports that the L: drive is not formatted. However, PartitionInfo shows it is formatted for FAT32.Is there any way I can fix the problem and get back into my L: drive? If this is not the correct forum, please advise which forum or newsgroup I should pose this question.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHadn't been on the computer for a couple of days, when I did I saw that Norton had found 2 high risk viruses (I don't recall what they were). I selected to fix both of them and it seemed to work. I also noticed that I had about 10 My Computer folders open. It then told me to reboot the computer, which I did. When the computer restarted, it seemed to power up OK, it then said starting Windows, and it went to the log-in screen. (I have two log-ins, one for me and one for my wife). When I click on either one of the two log-ins, it automatically says saving settings and logging off, and then it goes right back to the two log-in selections. I have tried to log-in in Safe Mode, and every other option available to me, and I get the same outcome. I tried the Recovery Disk that came with the computer, and it would not boot from the CD drive, even when I changed the settings to boot from the CD Drive. It tried to star once and I hit R for a Standard Recovery and it seemed to start, then I got a BOOT: Memory overflow error..Please insert another disk and it just locked up. I rebooted and I could not get back to the recovery menu. It just sits there with a black screen with a blinking cursor and then I get the following error. Disk Boot Failure, insert system disk and press enter. And it does the same thing now every time I try it. Is there a way I can just get to normal DOS to try and recover my files?

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter a recent crash, my IBM ThinkPad's hard drive has completely accessible files, but doesn't boot.I bought an external hard drive enclosure to access the data, and this works great, with one exception-My personal user files were password-protected, and when I try to view them remotely, I recieve an error message saying "Access is Denied." I'm running Windows XP (an insecure system) so there has to be some way around this obstacle, right?

View 6 Replies View RelatedCan anyone please help me? I was reorganising my hard drive and decided to restart all my bitccomet downloads so I could put them in a different place. So I did a windows search for all *.bc! files and deleted them from there. The files were deleted and I can't see them anywhere but my hard drive space stayed absolutely the same. I tried everything, deleting temp files, removing system restore, defragmenting, scandisk, searching for them in system and hidden folders, everything. What else can I do? I tried again with a different program and they didn't show up at all. Can somebody help me please?
Ok here's the story, I bought Windows Vista, hated it with a passion, so I went to reinstall XP. Everything's going fine, then it gets to the stage where it wants to pick a hard drive to install it on.
I have a 120GB (split into 40GB/80GB partition), and 2 250GB HDDs. So it tells me I have a previous version of Windows installed. I say format that (I was on the phone to a friend while doing this, so I wasn't paying much attention, but I've done this hundreds of times before), then "Storage 2 (E Formatting"...I pulled out the power supply in haste, but it was to late, logged into Windows, and gone 250GB of files that would take years to recover, if they are even recoverable... and I just realised all my web development work was on the drive as well... I have back ups but not everything is backed up...I only did a quick format, so I don't know if that makes it easier to recover but I need a good, reliable, and possibly free program to get my stuff back.
